What strange judging tonight - Higa gets a homer, Teraji wins and gets stiffed by a 117-112 card ?! :maybe: :witzend:

The result will be debated, as Sandoval (27-2, 18 KO) came off the canvas to win a split decision on two cards of 115-112 and 117-110, with Teraji (25-2, 16 KO) winning the other card, 114-113. Bad Left Hook unofficially scored the fight for Teraji, 114-113.

Undercard results

Antonio Vargas retained his WBA bantamweight title by fighting Daigo Higa to the truest draw you will ever see, with all three judges returning even score cards, 113-113. Higa (21-3-3, 19 KO) scored a fourth round knockdown, but Vargas (19-1-1, 11 KO) got that back with a knockdown of his own late in the 12th and final round, and it truly was a fight too close to confidently call, I think.

Vargas proved he can hang at actual world level — he hadn’t yet really fought at actual world level — and for Higa it’s another in what has to be a genuinely frustrating run, as he’s 0-1-2 in his last three fights, and the fight he lost was closely scored, too. All of them have been bantamweight world title fights.

Kyosuke Takami had a breakout performance, stopping Erick Rosa at 2:48 of the 10th round to take the WBA light flyweight title. It was an excellent showing from the 23-year-old Takami (10-0, 8 KO), whose power looks very real at a world level. Rosa (8-1, 2 KO) had some good moments in this fight and is a quality boxer, and he ate a lot of shots along the way to show how tough he is, too, but Takami’s workrate, crispness, and power were just too much, and finally the Dominican crumbled.

Takami is absolutely one to watch at 108 and perhaps beyond, he’s big for the division, has an offensive-minded style, and a very professional approach, none of Rosa’s game plan really worked out because Takami responded well to all of his best moments. Just a really good performance from the young man.

Missed the card :verysad:
Didn't really had it on my radar.

Kenshiro losing is a surprise.

Feel bad for him. In his last two fights all 6 judges scored it even and his last lose could've been a draw as well.

I had Vargas beating Higa 115-111, draw seems pretty generous to Higa but there were some close rounds, it was a pretty nip/tuck fight, both men were happy to fight up close, not that messy, both were whipping in shots to the body, after a pretty positive start from Vargas he got dropped in the 3rd by a left hook, looked fairly hard but Vargas recovered well rest of round, it did give Higa confidence and he opened up more but I had Vargas outboxing hom down the stretch and the knockdown in the last round sealed the deal on my card, cracking right then left put Higa down and fighting to hear the final bell, robbery might be harsh but still think Higa's done well to get a draw

I had Sandoval ahead 114-113, great fight and tough to score because they landed with pretty much everything they threw, they're defences were slack to say the least, Sandoval got his jab off early then as the rounds wore on began putting shots together and he had no bother finding Teraji, caught him clean repeatedly, Teraji found the big shot in the 5th textbook 1/2 put Sandoval down pretty hard, he recovered well, it was a pretty high octane stuff, Teraji's jab was class as well tbf, it just felt like Sandoval was landing more, leading more, countering more, both men had to tough it out but right man won imo

I don't know Sandoval, but Teraji is a p4p top 15 fighter.
Can you watch it via the Matchroom YT channel?
Wasn't there either. Sounds like a good card, gonna watch the main event later. What a shock that Sandoval won.

No home-cooking for Kenshiro!

Sandoval was the challenger, away fighter, and largely on the backfoot, but one judge in particular really took a shine to him. I want to say: "117-110- that was surprising!", but nothing is surprising when it comes to scorecards. Nonetheless, Sandoval was impressive.

Kenshiro was mostly front foot and landing seemingly more hurtful shots, to head and body, but Sandoval timed him with solid counters and even beat him to the punch often.

No, says it's unavailable. Maybe outside UK and US.

not too surprised kenny lost tbh, he'd been having close/tough ones for a while, i dont expect ricky to keep the belts long but grats to him. like kenshiro was, he is one of the least intimidating looking champs out there

Round 12 of the main event was borderline epic. I had Sandoval winning 114-113. I had Vargas ahead, 8-4 on rounds. Excellent card.

He's definitely lost a step. He nearly lost his previous fight as well.
Even though he's only 33, in those lower weight classes it seems like your peak is already behind you at that age, which is sad to see.

Hopefully, someone like Inoue retires before it gets to that point.

I thought he lost a close decision to Canizales a year and a half ago so not so huge a surprise. Like you said, 33 is old for a flyweight. Narvaez and Wonjongkam were exceptions to the rule as older flyweight belt holders

Another good name. I forgot about him. Pong losing to a journeyman like Jaro was a shocker, especially coming off a solid win over Sosa.
