Right. Is Ricky that deluded he thinks anyone cares about this!?!???

I'd imagine he knows nobody will care, and doesn't care himself. He's going to be getting paid a lot of money for what is, in effect, doing a charity event where some MakeAWish kid gets to go in the ring with him, except in this case the MakeAWish kid is a wealthy guy from Dubai who wants to be able to show his grandchildren his BoxRec record with Ricky Hatton on it.Jimmy2020 wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025, 06:41The danger is not the opponent it's that barely anybody might turn up to watch. For a seemingly fragile man like Ricky that could do him more harm than good.coneye wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025, 06:32But perfectly understandable , perhaps not the most sensible of things to do , but he was a world champ , he was a good boxer and he i suppose will be in reasonable nick for his age , , So i suppose if the guy he is going in with is'nt that good its probably a good earner for him although i suspect he'll do it more for cheers and adulation than money , Masters boxing is becoming very popular in Aust and theres guys a lot older than him having there first and second fights , personaly i don't agree with it but who am i to judge ,
Suppose has long has he's sensible about the quality of opponent no harm done , , would i bother watching not a chance but many will,,, Really its about wether he wants to sell his legacy for his ego and a couple dollars , at the moment Ricky Hatton is adored by the british public and his losses were to greats , carry on with this stuff and the losses will go against him , and if he's up for sale, losses will shorely come , up to him i suppose ,
He’s getting paid regardless, don’t really think he caresJamesPhilips wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025, 10:55Right. Is Ricky that deluded he thinks anyone cares about this!?!???
Define world class? He was number one in a relatively weak division at light welterRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025, 10:57 Is it controversial to say Hatton was barely world class?
I mean he was promoted well under Frank. Had around 3-4 fights a year defending the bogus wbu world title. He was adored by fans and had a huge following. But how good really was he?
Steve Ward v Jody Meikle was definitely more than 92 but you'll have to look it up to get the exact age.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025, 13:52Did McCall or Danny Williams not fight anyone similar to their age.
Oliver McCall fought Gary Cobia (59 and 52) earlier this year. There was a 70 year old American boxer who fought several years back and I think his opponent was fairly up in years (late 40's maybe). Plus Andreas Sidon and Steve Ward fought for a veterans belt and were late 50's and early 60's respectively.
My thoughts on this is, if you're gonna have a fake fight. Go all the way with it, and have a Pro Wrestling match thenmargaret thatcher wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025, 15:20 tbh i dont have much issue with faded ex pros doing exhibitions, ive seen some of them with mexican greats like barrera, morales, chavez....and they were good fun
It sounds like a glorified exhibition - a bit like the Tyson vs Paul one, it might go on the record but who really cares.gilgamesh wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025, 13:10 I'd think it's a combination of 2 things. He needs the money, and he wants to leave the sport as a winner rather than a loser. This guy being 46 years old and 8-3 is probably somebody that even THIS Ricky Hatton can legitimately beat.
Hopefully it ends there though, and there are no further comeback bouts.
If it goes on the record it's a fight. Maybe not an important fight or a good fight, but a fight nonetheless.stujones wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025, 05:44It sounds like a glorified exhibition - a bit like the Tyson vs Paul one, it might go on the record but who really cares.gilgamesh wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025, 13:10 I'd think it's a combination of 2 things. How old was Bonecrusher Smith and Bugner when they fought.
Yes, but Tyson vs Paul was as "fake" as some of these non sanctioned fights and some exhibitions we have seen.gilgamesh wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025, 11:46If it goes on the record it's a fight. It was fake the sense that Paul didn't stop him when clearly he could've. I don't think there's any way Mike could've beaten him though.stujones wrote: ↑16 Jul 2025, 06:00Yes, but Tyson vs Paul was as "fake" as some of these non sanctioned fights and some exhibitions we have seen.
In fact, while we are questioning Hatton's involvement - what about the other guy - he is 46 also with an 8-3 record and his last fight was 4 years ago and a KO loss. Maybe the concern should be more for the opponent.
Hatton will get a points win with plenty of pulled punches. It feels like the David Haye vs Fournier fight - that was billed as a sanctioned fight until the last minute (indeed it was very confusing if it was or wasn't even after the fight) - plenty of pulled punches there.
