I'm pretty sure the seconds out forum was my first foray into the forum world, then one day it just closed

We also closed ours on British Boxing at very short notice, for a couple of reasons.

- You always had people who would ruin it with constant spam and anti-flooding protection wasn’t that advanced back then

- Boxing is highly litigious. It was the early days and it hadn’t been property established who the ‘publisher’ of the content was and if lawsuits against website owners would succeed. We were getting a letter a week!

On another note, we would also get jokers pretending they were someone in the sport!

We had a particularly convincing Ian Drake who had everyone convinced. The real Darke made his feelings pretty clear about it a show!

veriton wrote: 18 Aug 2025, 12:25 I used to post on the SecondsOut forum 25 years ago! It was the place to be back then, I can remember writing huge posts defending De La Hoya. There was an American on there who was brilliant, he was called oldmanbob or something.

I think it got bought out and got more corporate and haven't been there in ages
Not true, never got bought out. SecondsOut could have been a massive financially successful brand. Unfortunately,it was not to be.
Maybe I'm getting it wrapped around my neck but pretty sure they hoovered up the competition at the time such as Boxing Press.

Cant remember the full details but Anthony Evans was installed as editor (proper boxing man). This was all a long time ago though.
Correct,SecondsOut bought out Boxing Press less than a year after SecondsOut first went online. Ant Evans was brought on board as an Editorial Assistant a year or so after.

Enjoyed reading this and learning the history of it all. It must still be a viable business with the size of its YT channel, and people like Rahim on it.

The problem with sites/channels like SecondsOut. Is they event driven. And the big events are few and far between nowadays.

That rings a bell. Crickey, I think it’s only now following your post that I realised it wasn’t darke

I pretty much cut my teeth writing for SecondsOut between 2007 and 2012 so it saddens me that people no longer see in its former glory.

Back then, we had some of the best writers around and there was the partnership with MaxBoxing from about 2009. The likes of Mark Butcher, Elliot Worsell, Mike Coppinger, Shaun Brown and, of course, Thomas Hauser all graced SO at some stage and behind Boxing News and Boxing Monthly, it did feel like it was the leading source for boxing features in the UK.

Sadly for me, the website was redesigned about a decade ago and all the hundreds of hours I'd spent writing articles for it were lost to history.

It's not even the original company structure. If it was I would still have shares in it!

Alongside a few others, which I believe included Audley Harrison, we lost out due to one or other company restructures - without any notification!
