You must be smoking something. Greg Page at his very best beats John Ruiz every day of the week. And twice on Sunday.
Why? Based on what? I've seen guys draw Page into a sloppy laying on the ropes, trading punches kinda doubt. That's what Ruiz would do, and Page wouldn't be able to stop that.

It'd be a typical Ruiz fight. A sloppy fight where he clinches a lot, and tries to nullify the action. A fight where a lot of the rounds could go either way because there's only 5 to 10 significant punches in the entire round from either man in most cases.

Ruiz was excellent at making people fight his fight.

Ruiz has like 4 or 5 more Championship wins than Page has Championship fights period, and they were both just regular 'ol WBA Champions. Ruiz was a WBA Champion on more than one occasion though, and held his title down for a longer period of time. Much to my chagrin at the time as I always wanted him to lose
John "The Quiet Man" Ruiz would not be at a guy of Greg Page's quality. Page was anointed as the next Muhammad Ali because he possessed the same qualities.

Ruiz was a fighter that made the fight ugly. That's it. He didn't had the speed of Page. He couldn't hit as hard as Page. And definitely wasn't as strong as Page.

Page's problems were drug addictions, women and booze, plus not training like he should. But, at his very best, Page was one of the most talented heavyweights in the 80s decade.

Ain't no way that a guy like Ruiz beats him. No way!
If Greg Page is like Muhammad Ali, he'd be like Muhammad Ali after you fed him a sh*t load of Oxycontin or something. He's closer to a Tyrell Biggs than he is to a Muhammad Ali.

Ruiz wasn't faster, and didn't hit harder than most big name fighters he beat. He wasn't faster than Holyfield, but he beat him. He wasn't stronger than Hasim Rahman, but he beat him.

Ruiz found a way to win in fights where it seemed he shouldn't. Page found a way to lose in fights it seemed he should win.

Technique for technique
Punch for punch
Speed for speed
Strength for strength

All is advantage for Greg Page. He was better than Tyrell Biggs who couldn't take a shot. Biggs didn't had no type of heart, will nor determination like Page.

Page's problems were drugs, booze and women. It was like a classical cult in the 80s decade that fell hard on drugs.

But, Page was one of the most skilled boxers at heavyweight in the 80s that never took advantage of his potential.

At his best, Greg’s jab, timing, and movement were way too sharp for Ruiz. The problem is, Page rarely showed up at his best. If it’s peak-vs-peak, I’d still lean Page, but Ruiz was the type who could make anyone look bad on the wrong night.
I agree with you.

John The Quiet Man Ruiz was a heavyweight version of Gene Fullmer making a fight ugly.
