Might have been a gradual thing with his hand speed. He never looked like he lifted weight. Actually looked soft when he got older. It was kind of hard to tell because he became a guy who just did everything he could to avoid being hit that he threw very punches himself. Thought that he hit rock bottom against Mancini. He just wouldn't do anything offensively at all. Mancini looked bad but at least he was trying to throw punches. After that he did a bit better but was never a great fighter again.
Certainly can't rank him as high as Benitez, but he was one of best Puerto Rican fighters.

Not by any chance. But, Macho is a HOF boxer, though. He is the only fighter to beat Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonardgiacomino wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025, 10:08Yes, but the fact that he wasn’t very often speakselmersalsa wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025, 08:56Even though Hector "Macho" Camacho fought those guys you mentioned, he could take a shot. Rosario was one of the biggest hitters in lightweight and jr. welterweight history, and a good boxer when he was patient, which wasn't always the case. I thought he won the Camacho fight but Camacho clearly backed off after being hurt because he'd never been rattled like that. He probably did OK in the bank account department considering he got paid well to fight a shot Mancini, Haugen, Chavez, Trinidad and De La Hoya. All of those were money fights then and vs Chavez, Trinidad and De La Hoya, he knew going in he just wanted to last the distance
Has Camacho ever been knocked down?
to both his durability and his ability to evade hard punches. After Rosario he was hard to catch squarely. Is he in your top 100 list?
Re: So what do you guys think about Hector Camacho?
Ha! I am guessing in their prime the outcomes would have been different. If Rosario had Macho messed up, I can’t imagine him vs a prime Duran at lightweightelmersalsa wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025, 10:35Not by any chance. But, Macho is a HOF boxer, though. did Camcho usher in the age of those split shorts/skirts showing a sexy bit of thigh?
