Why? Because she's fast and skilled and your not. You wouldn't land clean, you'd be off balance, out of position and wide open for shots.
I remember people saying all those things when Romda Rousey was doing well in UFC

OK. I work with a lad in his late twenties, who was British champion for one of the MMA organisations a few years back. He still trains every day, is an expert, knows every move, his Ju-Jitsu is fantastic, he's in incredible shape, long, lean, skilled. I asked him today how he thought he would do if he fought Rhonda Rousey in her prime. This is a cocky kid who was unbeaten in his MMA career. Wanna know what he said? "I wouldn't stand a chance."

I think I could beat her. I could rest anytime I wanted, by dropping my hands, and just fully relaxing with my hands down by my side. Normally that wouldn't be advisable in a Boxing match, but against Claressa Shields it wouldn't matter, she could hit me sure, but it would hurt about as much as a toddler punching me.
The main difficulty would be in landing the shot on her. So I think having a difficulty to predict attack pattern would be key, and being able to come in with your hands down by your side completely unconcerned about any incoming offense would definitely make your own offense pretty unpredictable, and the timing of it would be off putting even to Claressa.
Now honestly I've never been a huge puncher myself so it wouldn't be out of the question that I'd hit Claressa with my best shot, and she'd just take it, but I think it'd be interesting certainly.
I'd give it a whirl if someone offered it to me, just for the amusement of it all.

He underestimates himself or overestimates her is all I can say to that.
Some people were putting Ronda on pound for pound lists next to the Men of MMA when she was active. People are just delusional sometimes.
Technique and Skill goes a long way, but at a certain point the strength advantage cancels it out or at least evens things up. If the stronger person was calm, and had a bit of a strategic mind themselves, it could be trouble.

That definitely isn't the case. He knows the sport inside out. I've never been in a cage, he has. Strength is one thing, but technique is something else.

Not good I can't wrestle, and have no grappling skill whatsoever.

But she's just a Sheila, surely strength would have to come into it at some point?

I had 1 amateur bout.
And for the record I never said I'd definitely beat Shields. It would all depend on whether she could take my shot or not. I know I wouldn't beat her on points. A KO punch would be my only shot so that's how I'd fight the bout.
I don't think she could knock me out, but I could see myself saying "F*ck this"and not wanting anymore if it was say Round 7 or 8, and I had landed the best I could land, and it didn't work.
I'd be insistent on feeling her best shot and her feeling my best though before I gave up. I would invite her best shot against me just to kinda mentally break her a little that she can't hurt me at all.

I presume a lot of respondents here also think that an average bloke could walk in off the street and run an eleven second 100m as well; after all, "a woman can do it, and men can run faster than women, and I'm a man."

Not the same thing at all. You can punch hard whether you're in shape or not. You just can't do it for as long.
You can't run 100m at any kinda noteworthy speed if you ain't training for it.

Fair play. I think her body shots would be a problem. If a liver shot is correct, it doesn't need a lot of power.

If you saw me suddenly decide I need to keep those arms in defensive positions after all, she's already won a big part of the psychological battle
I'd be genuinely curious how something like this would play out.
We need Mr. Beast or somebody throwing around crazy money to make these wacky scenarios happen

I don't really punch that hard. I'm pretty sure I'd hit harder than Shields, I don't think I'd hit as hard as a fair amount of dudes my size or even near my size.
I do take a good shot though. I've been in a fair amount of fights in my life, although none of them in many years admittedly.
Whether I punch hard or not wouldn't matter if I couldn't connect. My priority in those early rounds would be to focus on just trying to connect rather than putting any authority on the shot.

I'm sure even if they ever proposed a Claressa vs a Man type circus bout. They wouldn't pick a complete rando.
If you ever see someone on the internet on the hunt for such an opponent though. I am indeed game.
Not for much longer though. Once I hit 40 I'm out of even the hypothetical fight game

For context, a girl we both know was on the Ultimate Fighter and she is one of the best in her weight class in the UK. When I asked the same cocky kid how he would do against her, he said he'd take her out in under thirty seconds.

I think it'd be funny to know how you'd do against some of the worst Male boxers ever as well.
Like the Charlie Zelenoff's and Andrew Hartley's of the world. Or Brian Sutherland.
For the record I'd pick Claressa over any of those 3 guys.

Mate, I'm 55 and haven't laced a glove since the 90's. After three rounds at a fast pace, I'd need oxygen in the corner.

Yeah stamina would be the biggest issue for me for sure. That's why keeping as calm as possible would be crucial to making sure I have the most attempts at meaningful offense I could muster.
Even then my punches probably wouldn't be able to crack an egg by the 4th.

It's certainly an interesting problem...
I've said this before, but it must be possible to calculate a 'male advantage formula' and let them fight off that.
Say 108 man vs 168 woman ?

Going back to her (lack of) punching power. If someone stands in front of her, chin up, telling her she's feather fisted, they might get punched in the throat. I don't car who you are, you're taking a knee if that happens.
