Yes, the actual belt is returned to Alvarez, and Crawford would receive his at a later date. In some respects, the WBC dropped the ball by putting their belt on the line when Crawford had reportedly stiffed them on sanctioning fees from his previous bout. This is easy for me to say, but I would have played hardball and not put the green belt on the table until all the fees were paid up front before the fight. Sorry - no payment, no belt to fight for.
Surely, the orgs wait til the sanction fees paid..
I have to say, I don't know when the sanctioning fees are paid, before or after the fight. If they're supposed to be paid prior to the bout, then the org shouldn't put the title on the line until payment is received; if it's after the fight, then - as much as I hate to admit this - the WBC took the proper action to strip him of the title.
