No. When Cooney won the open NYGG in 1976, Green won the novice NYGG.

Cooney never fought Blood Green in the amateurs. As for how Gerry would have fared in the Olympics, he wouldn't have lasted a minute against Teofilo Stevenson. He would also have lost to Igor Vysotsky and Evgeni Gorchakov. Possibly Jurgen Fangelhall would have beaten him too.
