arthur gomez certainly; was at fight in states on graham/johnson night and still remember the reaction at ringside when the result came through from london - couldn't believe herol's performance when I watched it back; pj gallagher v charles shepherd in erith in 96 was maybe the best small hall fight i've seen, charlie gave everything that night; mckeever mulholland was also brutal; watt/o'grady gripping stuff...

Yes, that brings back some memories. I had a b/w copy from French TV, as I don't think it was shown on UK.
So long ago, but seem to remember this was a multiple knockdown affair with Cable coming back to score a sensational win late on.
Great win, as the Moroccan based French man went on to fight for world titles after that loss.

Jimmy was a class boxer, but was vunerable to big shots. I remember his big night, and supposed coming out party, was against the unknown Buster Drayton.

Manager Micky Duff rarely made mistakes, but he did in this case.
Drayton iced Jimmy inside a round, live on the BBC.

Incredibly, Duff then made the same mistake twice, bringing back Drayton for his big prospect Mark Kaylor to take revenge on.
Instead, Buster blasted Kaylor to the canvas about 5 times, destroying him on live TV...again.

Duff should have noticed that Buster was from Philadelphia.....

To top it all off, on the same bill, Duff's main man Frank Bruno was whacked out by Bonecrusher Smith.

Manager Terry Lawless threw in the towel and retired as a result of those two losses.

Though Big Frank eventualy talked him out of it.

That's the thing with Philly fighters - always liable for a tear-up. Remember that old guy they brought in for young heavyweight prospect Malcolm Tann on the undercard of Audley Harrison's latest fight? Straight to work from the opening bell, and even put Tann flat on his arse with a flush left hook right on the chin!

I was looking over Cable's record ages ago and that's the fight that stuck out for me, because he got stopped early quite a few times and he must really, really have been up for that EBU title shot to get back up from the early knockdowns - a good indication of how your mental game can affect your chin.

Jimmy Cable also had a very good win against Nick Wilshire in their 2nd meeting (for the British 154 title).

I was at the Gallagher v Shepherd fight. Incredible atmosphere and a pulsating fight.

Ayres v Dunne always tops my list. A British title clash that could hold it's own in any era.

Alexander v Samuels still the UK's version of Hagler Hearns.

Just about any Rocky Kelly fight. The fight against Tony Brown was extremely thrilling.

David Walker v Paul Dyer for the Southern Area title would have been showered with nobbins had it taken place in the 80's.

Leigh Allis v Valery Odin's 8 rounder was a humdinger

A lot of those already mentioned really resonate with me, but I've also got a real soft spot for Colin Lynes vs Young Mutley - too one-sided to be a classic, but felt Lynes was a proper old school throwback that night, going into the lion's den and using a really educated jab to control and punish the dangerous puncher.

Doh! I'm such a muppet, didn't pick up on that at all. One of the things I've really disliked about being abroad for so long is missing out on live shows and especially those small hall classics.

This fight get's hyped waaaaaaaaaay too much.

The only good thing about it was the last minute of the fight.

There was a bit of slugging in the middle rounds, but the majority was Del against the ropes and Takam trying to take it to him.

The KO blow was good, a feel good. Made you forget the rest of the fight, but that was it.

Woodhall v Branco, (he turned out to be good).
Wharton v Nardiello, (Nardiello's fight to win after flooring Henry).

Dave McAuley v Baby Jake Matlala was a pretty entertaining scrap.
