his peak may have been short but he sure as hell was the best welter on the planet for a while.

massivley underated in comparison to the old favourites say the likes of mcguigan he is a level up again in my view on par with Buchanon.

Agreed, Pedroza wasn't at his best when Mcguigan beat him, and Starling and Breland were a notch above stevie cruz.

Funny how British fighters always seem to have a brief peak, Lewis being the exception.

He is a real good boxer and I like him. In his times there was just one World title belt. 30 years later he would have been one world champion.

No way would Cooper have been heavyweight champ in any era, too small and was too prone to cuts. His manager rightly avoided putting him in with the likes of Frazier and Liston.

J, something worth thinking about is that even though Lloyd won abroad the same as Ken, the air conditioned interior of Caeser's was vastly different to the unbearable heat in San Juan during that afternoon. They even tried to screw Ken by sneaking in first and nabbing the coolest corner - so he'd fry between rounds without shade.

Again, hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to denigrate Lloyd in any way, but I rank Ken higher because he unified the titles himself, rather than won them in a one-er. He did that against Ruben Navarro in the same snake pit that Johnny Owen fought his final fight in, in Los Angeles. Navarro tried to take Ken's head off but got thoroughly outboxed. Showing calmness and poise in such a cauldron (someone even tried to switch his water bottle - all sorts of skullduggery were going on) is astonishing.

Comparing him to Ricky Hatton is also interesting - he gave Laguna a rematch (again, away from home: that is shocking!!) and beat him more convincinly than the first, despite Laguna actually boxing a bit better (IMO). He also made Carlos Ortiz surrender in only 6 rounds of a one sided fight...

His only loss came against a man who you could make a strong case for being the best ever at that weight - Roberto Duran. And even then Ken actually fought with him, and was closing strongly for a UD loss when he got hit by the low blow and 'stopped'.

jeez manos we are geting a bit specific when we are talking about air conidtioning mate. kinell. also if you look at the list i do rank ken ahead of llloyd but not by much mate!!!

same coudl be said for mcguigan when he lost to cruz in the midday sun, its the same for both fighters.

John Conteh often never gets a mention as a top-10.

He may have blown out but he won every title available and is unquestiionably a British great in my opinion...
