if he retired tomorrow, his place in history is assured i think. from here on in its how far up that all time p4p list he can go.
is he the best 130 pounder ever???? he was amazing at super featherweight wasn't he.
There's a fornicate of a lot of competition at feather and super feather. It's historically probably the most talent packed.
Who'd you rate above Mayweather at 130? Arguello - I'd put May above him, I think he has a strong case for no1

The ONLY thing about Mayweather that doesn't look good is the way he sometimes ducks down to his left and reaches over with his right hand punch. He doesn't do it quite so much now but it looks clumbsy and ineffective when he does.
Hardly a weakness though is it. I'm still surprised he looks so strong at 140, i thought a while ago he'd be back peddaling true Matthew Barney style when faced with a genuine light-welter, but it's nearly the opposite. He must have reached his physical peak, no wonder he's been talking about Winky Wright.
Instead of just being tricky at 140, Mayweather is now down right dangerous even after 2 moves up.

Well if you ignore the feather/super distinction then there's a fornicate of a lot of people you have to consider.
Henry Armstrong, Sandy Saddler, Willie Pep, etc. Just because Mayweather has hopped the weights doesn't make him better.
The fighters of those day didn't have the nutritional advice to put on weight so easily, nor were there all those additional weight classes.
Christ Henry Armstrong weighed 133 when he won the Welterweight title from Barney Ross.
Don't get me wrong, he's an incredible fighter, but for my money to date, the likes of Morales and Barrera have better resumes over a more protracted period of time.
There were countless fighters of Gatti's standard back then too, none of them would have been title holders.
Achievements of modern fighters HAVE to be put into perspective by looking at how much harder it was to get, hold and move up through the belts before the advent of TV.

i hate sandy saddler with a passion.

love to c mayweather box that dirty brawlers ears off.
a young julio cesar chavez would have been his ultimate test at 130 i think.

Why the hell wasn't Gatti hardly doing anything! Gatti had him on the ropes at the beginning ofthe round and clinched. He should of got him on the ropes more like Hatton did with Tszyu and put pressure on him.
Hatton can beat Floyd though.
Newsflash! Nobody beats Mayweather right now or even 5 years from now
Bit overating him?
Mayweather needs someone to put more pressure on him and Hattoncan do that.

Because that was round 6 and he'd had a 5 round shallacking beforehand!! Every time Gatti tried to land Mayweather would slip and bang in a hard combination.

That was mad, Gatti shouldn't of boxed him. Best chancehe had was when he had Floyd on the ropes.

Best chance Gatti has was not fighting him in the first place! Gatti fought a crap fight, but whatever he had tried he would have taken a beating. They're a class apart.

Gatti was just mostly standing in the centre of the trying to jab and would get beat to it because Floyd was faster and he was open.
Hatton should try pressuring him on the ropes if he ever fought him.

Let's hope the fight happens, I wouldn't fancy Hatton's chances much to be honest, Mayweather is exceptional. But I would love to see it.

Mayweather is exceptional but Gatti just shuffled into range and let him unload. I'd like to see him eat a few heavy shots before I'll commit to him being a legend but I haven't seen such a good defensive fighter in a long long time.
If Hatton is prepared to eat jabs on the way in and throw 90+ punches a round for 12 rounds (like Duran against Leonard) then he has a chance. I'd still back Mayweather but I really want to see someone push him to the limit.

I actually think Hatton has a better shot than anyone else at beating Mayweather. It's not beyond him to pull off the upset. He may just bring the very best out of Mayweather and get hammered though. Either way, it's the one match-up I want to see more than any other.

As an elite fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr will never get stopped. He's just too smart. The only guy I've seen shake him up was DeMarcus Corely and the guy never came close to landing with a decent follow up shot despite "trapping" Mayweather on the ropes. That seemed to be the point where Corley knew all hope was gone.

Hatton wouldn't stand in the centre ofthe ring so much like Gatti did.

Hatton definately has the stamina for it.

So does Mayweather, Merchant was saying during round 6 of the Gatti fight that Mayweather often spars 10 or 15 minute rounds with different sparring partners just coming at him to improve his stamina.
What a fight, I hope it happens.

Even though it would be great for the division, and for boxing fans, I don't fancy Ricky's chances in that one... anywhere other than in a hometown ring.

Hatton could probably give Mayweather the best fight but i still don't think he would beat him, Mayweather's speed is exceptional and despite his extra curriculur activities he is always in prime condition. As for Mayweather versus his former SF counterparts:
Freitas - Always had a chance with his massive punching power and he was a lot more conservative with his punching and less one dimensional than the awful Suarez has turned him into, he was better back down at SF. Still he is no where near fast enough to consistently tag Mayweather and he was dropped by Barry Jones and Lamuel Nelson so you have to wonder what the accurate punches of Mayweather would have done to him. Mayweather on points surprisingly easy.
Spadafora - Never rated him, a home town fighter really. Mayweather would have toyed with him and eased to a points win if in a negative mood or even stopped him if he wanted.
Casamayor - I think he would give Mayweather the most interesting fight, shame it never came off, this guy is underrated and very skilful. Before and just after the loss to Freitas i think that version of Casamayor would give Mayweather trouble as he had the speed to catch him. Still Mayweather on points but a tighter decision than against the other two.

i agree with all the above. i think he may have stopped freitas and spaddy though.
