Tszyu never fought for 1 year and 11 months actually though. Notice that since Tszyu beat Judah though, he was starting to fight once a year. I don'tmean when he was injured but he fought Tackie then Leija, looked like he was only going to start fighting once a year.
Yup, making sure he gets a talented boxer like you all the career-defining fights he needs, like Veit, em, Veit, um...eh...oh oh oh - Kabery Salem - he was a tough one.
Warren actually did get him Johnson before he got injured though and it is possible guys ducked him like Ottke, Beyer and possibly Hopkins like he said on that reply to Ian's article.
Hopkins the undisputed middleweight champion ducks the guy with the shitty WBO belt at supermiddleweight! I have heard it all now.

There were negotiations for that fight but it fell through, I dont think Hopkins wanted to fight over here basically hence wanting silly money.

Warren reckoned it was Calzaghe who was going to go over to the US to fight Hopkins but Hopkins wanted 6 mill instead. :-?

Bullshit mate I remember the negotiations at the time and it was for Hopkins to come over here and fight in Cardiff. Lets not forget Calzaghe has only just got over his fear of flying!!

It was about 2 or 3 years ago. The article you are alluding to is comments made by Warren is it not? How do you know its true? Guys like Hopkins are impossible to negotiate with at the best of times, but stepping up in weight in another guys back yard? It would never happen.

Was Ian's article on British Boxing site. Warren was the guy doing the deals though so surely he hasthe faxes and other things proving it. Hopkins could of stepped up one mesley pound and he would of been a supermiddle so the weight would be no prob.

Howcome Hopkins is such a hard guy to deal with?

Because of his ego perhaps? Hopkins talked a lot of shit, he was going to step up to 175, then 168 but was ever serious about it? He certainly hasn't done it.

A warrior like Hopkins would never duck Calzaghe, Hopkins is a serial PR machine and i doubt he ever intended to move up and take on Calzaghe, he just likes maintaining peoples interest in his career and have people talking about him.

Maybe Hopkins was scared off by Calzaghe blitzing through future hall of famers Tocker Pudwill and Kid Fire McIntyre? :o

Because Hopkins fought Taylor and now the rematch thats why. Would you rather see Taylor v Hopkins II or Taylor v Soliman?

Good point, after beating De La Hoya, Trinided, Joppy, Mercado (In Ecuador) and meeting next in line Taylor, Hopkins must have ducked Sam Soliman...get real.

Willthe IBF title become vacant though, since I hear the winner of that was supposed tofight Solimen afterwards according to an agreement Hopkins had with the IBF?

Rather see Taylor/Hopkins so Taylor can beat Hopkins again.

I expect they'll strip the title unless Taylor has already made some sort of deal with Soliman and the IBF. Who knows?

The thing is with calzaghe is that you have to have done a hell of a lot to hold a respected title for 8 years and 15 fights without a real test. YOu can't tell me that he couldn't have got him and Ottke in the room and made the fight happen Bollox

BTW, I doubt someone who fought in a rabid national stadium in a volatile third world country would be scared of fighting some WBO fraud at Cardiff Ice Rink, that is laughable sorry. It would have been about money - Warren would have offered him peanuts because a) Hopkins ain't a draw b) Hopkins would have dismantled Joe, who is a level below him in terms of skill.

Joe must be pissed off, needed the likes of hatton to help sell the show. still he's got khan, he can box on his undercard, shit he already is. Anybody actually buy a ticket to see Joe, most fans seem to be there for the undercard fighters.

I like the way more and more people are now wanting to see Ashira win!!!

Have wanted to see Calzaghe slip up before his big "Career Defining" fight for a while now. Not that I see him losing to Ashira, winning but hurting his hand in the process yes, losing no.

And to talk all this crap about how great he is and how Hatton hasn't beaten anyone on the eve of his big fight versus the 35 year old middleweight who was knocked down 3 times in his last "world title" attempt in 2 rounds, Evans Ashira!!! What a pudendum

Don't you think its amusing that a guy who is bragging about having been world champion for 8 years is supposedly having his 'defining' fight against a guy who has been world champion for a year!

Lacy is good and good enough to beat Calzaghe at this point I think but is it truly a defining fight?

His defining fights should have been against the best guys of his generation in and around his weight like Ottke, Jones Jr, Hopkins.

I don't find this interview to be THAT big a deal, personally. It's a bit of talk before a fight woopie dooh. Calzaghe is probably in a right bastard mood just before having to weigh in for a fight that he knows he could probably win with 1 hand.

And does anyone seriously believe Sven Ottke wanted to fight Joe Calzaghe? For me that wouldn't have been a defining fight anyway, Ottke lost more fights that any unbeaten fighter I've ever seen. I don't believe Hopkins wanted it either (even though I'd have picked him to win), not when when he had a far bigger and easier payday against De La Hoya on the horizon.

Well Ottke was a long time champion with 2 belts at one point so it was more of a defining fight than mopping up guys that Ottke had already beaten!

We can make excuses for all the defining fights that never happened but the buck has to stop with him and his promoter. He could have gone and fought in the US and he could have done more to get the big fights of that there is surely no doubt? For instance, offering someone like Mundine this September date but wanting 4 options on future fights? What fighter is going to accept that? So when Warren pipes up and says he's offered X, Y and Z fights with Calzaghe and they didn't accept you have to question what exactly he has offered.

I just can't understand how so many people can turn on Calzaghe, sure he's often been more talk than action, but he's got this Lacy fight coming up, a real tough one, to be truly recognised as no.1, where he could get hurt in there, with the Americans acting arrogant as fornicate about British fighters like Joe, and yet we've still got Brits on here hoping he gets KTFO in front of his own crowd and live on ITV?

I mean what the fornicate is wrong with you?? I can only guess (with the possible exception of my mate Nick :D ) that finally come the night of the fight some good old fashioned patriotism will return.

I really want to get behind him but I just cant bear the guy anymore. All his years of yapping and excuses and pullouts have taken their toll. I used to be a huge fan, I'm Welsh after all but I have had enough! And the way he slags off other fighters, in another article I read he was slagging off Lewis and Hamed for cutting corners and losing and bigging himself up for being undefeated. At least those guys fought at the highest level! 8 years of that sort of shit is more than enough.

And will November even happen? I am not convinced.
