True there are definitely better fights out there for Hatton, but with all thats going on outside the ring at the moment I am happy to settle for Maussa and unifying the title for now and the bigger fights next year.

Its the fighter that makes the belts though and fights against Cotto leftovers (Maussa) and Mayweather leftovers (Gatti/Corrales) still makes it a case of shying away from the fights that reall matter.

No-one should begrudge Hatton a little bit of a gimme for a 1st defence after his incredibly gruelling fight with Tsyzu. It’s a great bonus that this less-than-superfight comes with a big 3 belt attached. So straight after this he can get on with making the superfights.

It’s the perfect timesaving solution and possibly because of the lack big name oppenent the last time we’ll see him on this side of the Atlantic for a while. I don’t think the situation could be much better.

Shame we're not going to be watching this one on ITV.

PPV is a great way to raise your profile and get kids interested in taking up the sport. Nice one Ricky. :(

the fact that it is for a 'big' belt will be a great bargaining tool whilst trying to secure future 'super' fights.

it's not alegit belt. the WBA split their title when Tszyu was injured. Then they flat out stripped him allowing the biggest fraud in light welter modern history to win the title. How genuine was Harris? He got a lucky decision over Urkal in Germany (strange as it may seem) and was beaten up by the appalling Maussa. Harris found ways out of fighting Hatton and Cotto btw, and messed up big time vs Maussa.

Spot on!... Maussa is just a tough club fighter... brave but terribly limited!. For Hatton to say that Maussa is a dangerous oppoent just shows how far his head has gone up his own arse... he'll say anything to try and get his gullible fans to his next 'fight'.

Who are you kidding?..... Ricky doesn't want 'superfights' ....unless they are against shot fighters like Gatti or brave journeymen like Maussa.
Ricky will never fight Mayweather, Cotto, Witter.... or anyone else who is a danger.....

Hatton will just take the money now and fight people who he can hype up as great fighters. Such a shame!

Yeah, but its amazing how many people are denying this and actually trying to build Maussa up as a decent challenge to Ricky. The fights a joke for someone whose supposed to be looking for 'superfights'.

I'd like to know how Dennis Hobson offered hatton more money than Warren for his fight with Maussa? Hobson apparently got it within 48 hours according to the bbc interview with Hatton but surely Warren could of got him it too.

True, people are more interested in boxing when it's on a channel like ITV and there more heard of then like Benn and Eubank. Hatton could of been a bigger name if he started on ITV.

Hatton will be fighting on Sky Box Office so I assume a big part of the pot was stumped up by Sky. Warren is with ITV exclusively now, there's no way there is as much cash available on terrestrial TV as there is with a PPV on Sky.
