James, I think we're on the same page here: All I meant was that you can't claim Clinton is the undisputed world number 1, it's up for grabs amongst 4 or 5 guys right now. I'm not knocking Woods as a belt holder. I just meant that he needs a win over a Tarver or a Jones or a Johnson to be considered top of the pile. And I think he's capable of it, as I said.

I was actually defending Woods from some criticism I don't think he deserved.

I hope Woods can avoid Johnson for a little bit, if Johnson wins the eliminator then he will be mandatory so his purse might not be great.

I think the Tarver vs Jones loser is what he should aim for first and foremost. I expect it will be Jones who although its will not be a great fight for the die hard fans, I think the lay fans will treat it similar to the appearances in the UK of Tyson, Tapia and Hearns - all faded forces when they came here but all fought to capacity crowds (and in the latter two cases when the main event had finished).

If Jones beats Tarver, then I don't really like Woods' chances at getting revenge so he should look at Tarver (who will be the #2 regardless of the defeat).

But was anyone shocked by how the ring announcer was acting, repeatedly saying "respect" during the Mexican national anthem because of some slight booing from the crowd, and then getting Clinton Woods' fighting record wrong, what a tosser.

That MC never gets a thing correct, you are almost waiting for a mistake, Clinton wasn't too happy with his slippery ring either. Must admit i was quite surprised at his "respect" ramblings as well...odd

Looks like there will be a lot more good action from the LH in the future with some good names.

How do you think he would fair against Thomas Ulrich or Zsolt Erdei shot? I have always rated Ulrich for his ability but he seems to fall short, Barney gave him the run around and that can't say a lot for his chances at world level.

I give Woods and co full marks for the enitre event.

Gonzalez is a tough hombre and came to fight.

Clinton rose to the occasion and I was particially impressed with Woods upping the pace in the last few rounds, after being involved in an already tough bout, to ensure the decision went his way.

I give Woods a shot against anyone in the divisio now. Tarver is probably the big danger man as he's a bigger harder hitting fighter than anyone Woods has beaten.

RE: Woods v Ulrich.

Isn't Ulrich something of a 'Banger' ? I seem to remember him losing to Branco and then destroying him late on.

Barney's hit and move tactics are probably the best way to deal with Ulrich, not sure Woods' defence will hold up against Thomas. That said, Clinton has one hell of a good chin on him.

I agree. I think Woods is 'in the mix' with the top 175lb'ers.

I am not saying he will or could beat them all, but he is a tough fight for anyone at the moment.

I was impressed by how strong Clinton looked, everytime the fighters came toghter Woods was the one that was pushing his opponent back and leaning on him against the ropes. From where i was sat you could see that this drained Gonzalez, and i really thought that Clinton could have finished Gonzalez in the last 2 rounds, Gonzalez looked proper out of it.

Yes, I was ringside, and I thought Gonzales looked shattered at the end, as Ian McNeilly pointed out beside me, Gonzales crossed himself at the end of the 10th which said it all.

probasbl;y the most impreoved fighter inthe past year is Clinton ant belive some of you lot are giving him a hard time. the guy is the opposite of Calzaghe, less talent but more application, late developer but wuill figtht anyone and wants to. Bid solid and smart he is up there alright.

Ulrich can only win vs the good guys in LHW by lucky punch. he will definetely fight vs Adamek for the title. we´ll see waht he does. fight is in Germany.

Erdei will fight Masoe for an WBA Eliminator in order to unify the WBA and the WBO title. I always rated Erdei higher than Woods. But now I think they must have the same level. Anyway the music in this division is played in Europe Tarver and RJJ are too old. Johnsons lucky year is over.
