Why isn't he fighting Cotto then?..... Maussas title is dubious at best and winning it will prove nothing.
Why is Maussa's title dubious, he beat Vivian Harris for the belt, its totally legit. He may not be a legit champion in your eyes, but he beat Harris who was considered a massive favourite going into the fight.
Don't you think someone who is supposed to be interested in being a 'legend' and having 'super fights' should be aiming a little higher than Maussa?. Especially when he's supposed to be only up for another 3 fights????. Also the title was only up for grabs because it had been taken from Tysu for political reasons.
If Ricky was honest and said he just wanted a few more paydays and the easier the better then fair enough... but don't tell me that Maussa is one of the top fighters of the division or represents a big danger and Hatton is taking him on because he wants to fight the best because that is just bollocks!.
What happened to Hatton taking on Witter?....... if Witter is no danger to Hatton why don't they make the fight then?.... do people really think that Hatton vs Witter wouldn't be a bigger fight/event than Hatton vs Maussa???!

I'm a Witter fan, but Hatton doesn't want to fight Witter because he won't give him the payday. Simple as that.

If you don't like the fight simply don't buy it (I certainly won't be)

Witter needs more experience before fighting Hatton anyway really. And maybe he can grab the WBC if Mayweather vacates

If Witter and Hatton is a unifaction for WBA, IBF and WBC it will be HUGE

Silkov, I agree its not ideal but it will do for now as long as the big fights come next year. You mentioned Cotto, but there's no way his team would put him in with Hatton at the moment, they're still handling him with kid gloves.

If we as fans are expected to pay for Hattons fights then we should expect to see him up against proper competition. Maussa may have the 'WBA' title but he's not genuine world class. Harris lost because he'd obviously not bothered to train.
Remember also that Billy Graham himself indicated that he didn't think Mauusa was a suitable opponent after watching the Harris fight in the studio.

I think its fine, both as a unification fight, and as a first defence. Bring on the big boys (Cotto etc) next year.

In the papers yesterday it said "...rather than take an easy fight, Ricky has decided to go for a unification instead..."

Whats all this about a 'first defence'!!!..... wickys held the WBU whatsit for god knows how long and has supposedly made all those previous defences... I suppose those fights didn't happen.
This is a soft fight for Ricky.

Don't hold your breath for Cotto.... if Rickys still afraid of Witter I doubt he's going to step in against Cotto.
Rickys 'superfight' will be against the shot Gatti.

For fornicate's sake, what did you expect for a first defence, Mayweather?

Billy Graham is a trainer, not a matchmaker or manager, as a management job it makes perfect sense to pick up an additional belt in your first defence, anyone who cannot understand that is frankly naive.

I don't think I'm naive mate :-? I've just got a different point of view to you 8) .
Rickys entitled to a soft defence, after all most of his fights have been against soft opponents so why break a habit of a career!..   . but don't tell me that Maussa is a danger to Ricky like he is being made out to be or that winning Maussas 'title' will actually prove anything... if you think it does then its you whose naive.
Also, would Hatton be so eager to pick up Maussas belt if it was held by Witter instead???.   ........ answer me that? :x ........ I think not!!!.. 8) ..

silkov sorry mate but you are just looking for an excuse, concentrate on witters below par performances of late not RH's.

Also i dont think its partucularly appropriate to call someone who got in the ring with a legend like Kostya a fraud.

in short change the record mate, Maussa is better than Kotnelijk and he nearly took your boy down.

If Witter is so bad why's Ricky still afraid of fighting him?.
Do you honestly think Hatton vs Maussa is bigger than Hatton vs Witter???.
So he fought Kostya, so what?.... he's a fighter isn't he!... if he wants to be looked at as the best in the world then he needs to fight the best. As yet he hasn't even proved himself the best in Britain until he fights Witter!.

let put it this way if someone had made their career off my back by walking around slagging me off, id freeze em out in the cold as well.

why should hatton fight witter, fornicate him, hatton is made, witter is trying.

perhaps if he had been a little more civil and respectful this fight would be happening.

if you honestly think hatton is afraid of witter but would get in with kostya then mate, im afriad im done talking to you on this issue.

its the same old witter diatribe being spouted everytime Hatton signs a fight, for Junior to then mouth off once more, only to go and fight c level fighters and struggle with them (ndou aside he was at least decent and Witter nearly lost).

count how many belts hattopn will have after 26th Nov and how many junior has.

I don't think so. Hatton would be more of a man if he got his own back in the ring!. This 'Freezing out' buisness is just pathetic really and is hardly the behaviour of a 'warrior'.
The record may have been played for a while now but thats because Hatton has been ducking Witter for years now.
He said that he wanted to fight Witter a number of times on SKY... if he had any pride he would live up to his words.

Witter is a different fighter to Kostya and has the style to beat Hatton. If Hatton isn't afraid of Witter why doesn't he fight him?. Surely Hatton would get far more money fighting Witter than the likes of Maussa???. Why is he doing himself out of a big payday?.
Hatton may have all the belts in the alphabet but until he fights Witter he hasn't proved himself the best in Britain, let alone the world!.

think we will just have to agree to disagree on this one but one thing is for sure this fight wont hppen anytime soon so its pretty futile to keep hanging on for it .

not sure if you would get more for fighting witter than Mausa, it is after all a unifciation and witter certinaly wont sell ppv in the US at all.

just my thoughts buddy.

But Witter vs Hatton would be huge here and I think the US have more respect for Witter than Maussa and they love a grudge fight.
But you're right in that the fight won't happen and the reason is that Hatton knows Witter would probably beat him.

Yeah right, Hatton must be terrified of Witter after watching him almost lose to non-entity Kotelnik. Christ you talk some bollocks.

Hatton v Maussa might be unification but it shows what TV compnaies think of it in the US because none of them are taking it.

I agree entirely that it's not a great fight, far from it, but if you were managing Hatton would you turn down the opportunity to pick up another belt in a low risk fight in the first defence of the title?

Kotelnik is better than Maussa and he'd beat Maussa by picking him off and apart over 12rounds. Kotelnik was a silver medalist and a very skilled counter puncher. So Witters last opponent will have been tougher than Hattons last opponent

Hatton would beat both though.

Silkov does make a good point, Hatton has made a career of fighting fights he knows he can win and avoiding challenges, other than Zoo who had fought 3rounds in 2years.
