I remember Oscar De La Hoya being interviewed a couple of years ago, and he said that he would NEVER fight Floyd Mayweather because he has far to much respect for Roger Mayweather.stujones wrote:Never thought I would be saying this but Mayweather vs Oscar De La Hoya isn't such an idiotic pipe dream now. This fight could happen.
Noticing DLH looking a lot trimmer on the Barrera bill, he's is fighting next year and I believe still says it will be at 147 lbs.

In terms of great fights - its a fight of a generation on par with the Golden 4 match ups.stujones wrote:Do you think Hatton vs Mayweather is the biggest fight in boxing.... Never really thought of it in that terms, but you could be right. Whilst it is a biggie, I always thought with Hatton a brit and Mayweather no that popular/not liked it would not be as big as their talent might make it. Although, in hindisght I cannot think of many that would be bigger, or any I would look forward to more.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:IF May moves to WW I'm diapointed - firstly hes too small at 147 - and at some stage will be found out (size wise), but most of all Hatton-Mayweather is the biggest fight in boxing at the moment
I actually change my mind about what would happen in a Mayweather-Hatton fight - I sometimes see Hatton been too strong and relentless for Mayweather and forcing him to the ropes. And then other times I see PBF just picking off Ricky all night and it going pretty much the same way as the Gatti fight went. But thats just why it should happen.
Hopkins (if he gets revenge) vs Wright / Klitchsko vs Toney / Moseley vs Judah are probably the only fights that could do better in the box office.
In terms of biggest money fights that may happen - probably Delahoya-Mayorga - but that fight is meaningless in terms of boxing greatness - although should give decent entertainment. Delahoya-Mosley3 would be huge money - well anything Delahoya.

I actually see Mayweather-Zoo looking like the Gatti fight but Zoo landing a few more shots in return - the styles are similar. The right hand is most effective on southpaws (Mitchell and Judah), I think Mayweather would be wary of the right and stay away from it all night long and Zoos too old to close the show against a fighter of Mays calibreMartin_H wrote:That's a good post, and I agree that Kostya Tszyu is the most likely fighter to beat Mayweather at the moment.stujones wrote:Good post, although not sure you can count Witter as elite yet. He hasn't done as much as Gatti and looked beatable (infact I thought he lost last time) in his last two outings, when his opponents have improved.
Things is, and I maybe in the minority, I haven't really seen Mayweather in any major problem or at any stage in his career have I thought during a fight - he COULD lose this (let alone, he is going to lose this). I cannot say the same thing about Mayweather's Light Welterweight rivals - to lesser fighters aswell (Hatton vs Magee and Cotto last time out).
What I saw vs Corely was the he was briefly (but definately) hurt, wobled backed to the ropes but recovered within 5 seconds. Yes, Corely is a poor finisher but Mayweather used his amazing defensive to evade anything else Corely had to offer when hurt.
Also, he's getting better - he was dogged with hand trouble early on (remember, he beat P4P contender Castillo with damaged hands). These seem to be gone, or at least less documented, and he is definately hitting harder in recent fights. Look at the easy he handled Corely in comparison to Cotto vs Corely.
Yes, I think Middleweight will be too much but the way he has improved in his recent fights I find it hard to see who can beat him much before that weight. I actually thought Gatti would win, I thought Gatti's own durability and power would get him through via tough KO - but he made him look terrible, Gatti didn't look terrible vs Leija.
Who can give Mayweather problems.
Hatton - Might have the style, but defensively to easy to hit.
Tszyu - actually the fighter I give the biggest chance because Mayweather doesn't like to dictate the pace (which is how Hatton beat Kostya). Kostya, when the agressor, cuts the ring down brilliantly and can whack a bit.
Cotto - Looks too easy to hit in recent fight, has weight issues.
Judah - As skilled as he is, I just think Floyd is a little quicker, a little more skilled and has the much better chin.
Maragito - Framewise could be intriguing, but he getting outboxed by Santos - so I am sure Floyd won't have much problems.
Moseley - Too slow these days.
The one 147 pounder I give a big chance is Oscar De La Hoya, for the same reasons why I gave Gatti a chance - but Oscar is that little bit better all over than Gatti. His speed is still good, he'd be naturally the bigger man and I don't think Floyd will hurt him.
At 154 with Wright moving up, none of the champions there are inspiring. Its a poor devision and I can see all the Welterweight major names (Spinks/Moseley/Judah/Margarito) beating alot of the Light Midddleweight top ten.
Kostya Tszyu really excels when fighting guys like Mayweather with fast hands! He plays the waiting game, get's them to relax a little and then BANG! The heavy right-hand lands right on the button when they least expect it!
Hatton and Judah will give Mayweather his stiffest tests. Judah is super slick/big/fast (foot and hand) and can bang and hes a southpaw. Margarito I haven't seen that much of - his size and stength may pose some threats
BTW I thought Gatti had a very good punchers/pressure fighting chance - can't believe he decided to box the master boxer.

I don't think there is a better fight that will fight him on that date - Cotto, Hatton, Judah, Winky all turned him down or couldnt agree terms.hitman_hatton1 wrote:in a recent bob arum interview he said he wanted hatton-cotto for early next year.![]()
mayweather-mitchell isn't an awful fight but there is better out there for mayweather.
I remember Hatton saying that Gatti spoke to him the day of the Gatti vs Mayweather weigh-in, and Gatti was asking Hatton how he thinks he should fight Floyd!Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:I actually see Mayweather-Zoo looking like the Gatti fight but Zoo landing a few more shots in return - the styles are similar. Hatton said he was shocked!
Perhaps that's the reason Gatti looked totally lost in there?

Yea heard that, Gattis a joker and fought the wrong fight although I doubt it would have mattered too muchMartin_H wrote:I remember Hatton saying that Gatti spoke to him the day of the Gatti vs Mayweather weigh-in, and Gatti was asking Hatton how he thinks he should fight Floyd!Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:I actually see Mayweather-Zoo looking like the Gatti fight but Zoo landing a few more shots in return - the styles are similar. I posted this on another forum.
On a sidenote though, I think Mayweather's TALENT is great, but as a boxer, no I don't think he is. Who was the last person he fought with as much ability or as good as him?
I'll tell you the answer, Jose Luis Castillo in 2002. He hasn't fought anyone good since then IMO. We'll see him fight another pound for pounder, then if he does that to them, then I will admit it.
If he makes Judah/Hatton look bad or even fights them then I will accept it.
Sosa, Ndou, Bruseles and Gatti are rubbish. Sosa wasn't even in the top 10 at lightweight, neither was Ndou.
Bruseles probably wasn't top ten in his own country he was that bad. and as for Gatti, if you've followed boxing from the mid to late 90's then you will know that he is and has always been crap.
Im tempted to agree with this. floyd hasnt done much since dec 2002. I believe Roman Karmazin would give floyd a hell of a fight. I bet you all he dosent take this option. Floyd will take the easyest route possible to get his 5 weight hopping titles. I suppose if we were in his shoes , most of us would do the same.Rubio MHS wrote:mayweather is overrated. he hasn't done shit recently of note. mitchell is finished. beating him means nothing. p4p #1 my fornicating ass. maybe in his mind.
