He could have easily made the 175 mark, but the better money was at heavyweight. I too think Maxim would have out-pointed Satterfield, but then again, he could get lucky like Curtis Sheppard (Another heavy-fisted fighter from around the same time, a little earlier). If Satterfield would have put as much time into training as he did chasing women and having a good time then he would have had a very, very good chance of winning the light heavyweight title…He had a punchers chance to win against anybody, but his chin was something that would always nullify his power. I think Marciano would have taken him out early, but it would have been one exciting fight for as long as it lasted.

Buster Drayton and Vinnie Pazienza just based on their grittiness and willingness to mix it up.

Also how about Daniel Zaragoza and Mathew Hilton...

Matthew Hilton was one of those guys who was a shooting star. Wish he would have stuck around awile longer, definitly an action fighter. Guys like Daniel Zaragoza don't get mentioned enough because of being in a lighter weight class. Anything under featherweight just doesn't get the recognition.

One guy who was a fan favorite in his day who dropped off the radar screen was Ray Mancinni. Sort of reminds me of Mc Hammer or Vanillia Ice. They were the next big thing untill something else came along, then it's as if they never existed. I guess with Ray boxing fans look back at him who someone who was overhyped.

I actually think Mancini is underrated these days... he was a hell of a fighter for a while and gave a near peak Arguello a great fight.

Michael Carbajal is another little warrior that people don't mention much today!...

Don't be giving your body parts away to see a fight film. Any of the fighters we don't have film of would in reality be greatly inferior to what lives in our imagination. I'm sure of it.

In recent times: Hagler and Julian Jackson.
Currently I like: Corrales and Barrera.

Yeah, add Barrera to my list too. Don't know why I didn't the first addendum. Also, Vassily Jirov, Omar Sheika, Ali, Winky Wright.
Hell, I think alot of posters could make a "favorites" list at least 100 names long. The order would be tough.

barry, sorry to mislead you. I was making a joking reference to the recent Dreamworks Shrek animated films with Mike Myers.

Forgot all about Johnny Owen until I ran across an old article about him while looking for something else. The only fight I saw of him was his last fight, but with some fighters that's all you need to see for them to win you over. He was one of those fighters.

Currently my favorite boxer to watch is probably Jorge Arce. I still haven't seen him in a boring fight. As for boxers of any era... too many to name.

I know it's just a joke, and I don't want to sound defensive or uptight, but for anyone who doesn't know, Johnny Owen died tragically as the result of his last fight in a courageous attempt to win the WBC bantamweight title from Lupe Pintor.

He went out just the way I want to, doing what he loved.

Braddock is well worthy of favorite fighter status. Given the fact that he broke or fractured his hand more than once and fought on gives testement to the human spirit. I tend to identify a little more with the fighters that I grew up watching just because that is who I am most familar with.

If you like human intrest stories like Braddock you might also enjoy these movies. Touching the void, and Men of honor. I highly recomend them if you have not already seen them. Although they are not boxing movies they represent the attributes of raw courage and determination in the face of overwelming odds, similar to the qualities demonstrated by James Braddock.
