BENN LOGAN WAS A CRACKER.
There was no TV for Benn/Logan - due to a dispute between Benn's manager Mendy and ITV I think. A tape of it was made though, not sure when it was released but I remember the one I saw had a dumb commentator who did'nt even realise Benn was knocked down and nearly out ( Don't worry folks, just a slip! :D )

I was ringside for that one and the whole hall, even the press, were on their feet when Benn pulled it out of the bag with that amazing back from the brink punch.

Sounds much like the Thompson v Rothmann fight, that was something else, everyone in the press was on their feet cheering. Dave Pariss at ringside turned to someone in the row in front of me and said 'The first clean punch Carl lands and Rothmann's out of there' twenty seconds later, whammo!

Looking at that fight again on tape, I have to say, Carl was not in as much trouble as it appeared.

I've seen Benn Logan before yes, however, having it seen it round at yours several times, my recollection is somewhat hazy, not entirely surprisingly.

I've got Benn v Logan on a tape, brought it years ago , shows Benn in the changing room warming up, pre fight interview, the fight , and afterwards in the dressing room.

Don't think theres many copies of that about

Fights that i enjoyed were the British Featherweight title fights involving Hodkinson, Sean Murphy, Gary De Roux, Colin McMillan

back to back crackers.. :box:

was it cause of Jackson's retinal damage that the fight was staged in, I think, tenerife?
It was mainland Spain on the Costa Del Sol. Never really thought about why but could well have been Jacksons eye.

Jackson V Graham was won by purse offer by Barry Hearn and was orginally set for Monte Carlo. The BBBC scuppered that because they had already stopped Jackson fighting in then UK because he has seriously dodgy minces hence the fight being moved to Benalmadena.

Mind you, them dodgy minces still see Herol hang his chin out and WALLOP!

Yep, as they say he never saw it coming. That's one of the worst KO's I've ever seen. Jackson was one hell of a puncher.

Are ITV going to show the big fights from the states again

What made it even more shocking for me though was Jackson had barely landed a glove on Graham up until that point. Quite a turnaround, in fact can anyone think of a one sided fight turned around so quickly with one shot? This was even more of a turnaround than Thompson v Rothmann.

I seem to recall Jackson was cut badly and swollen up, he really looked in bad shape.

I always said that part of Graham's problem was that he never planted his feet and dug hard enough to deter people. This is why he lost the big fights at top level, because he would go miles ahead, but his opponents always knew they had a punchers chance.

Came very close against McCallum which is some feat, but then McCallum was very good at nicking close ones because he was so crafty.

Love to watch tapes of McCallum, such a terrific fighter.

Mike Weaver v John Tate has to be up there, first fight I ever watched that was too.

thompson v dunstan was some turnaround....
Thompson got battered early and they somehow clawed himself back into it and knocked dunstan out, face first, in the last... B.E.A utiful

Jackson did it again v the almost great Terry Norris.
He looked in a different time zone for a round and a half as Norris hit him every-which-way-but-loose - outclassed him in fact.

Then an overconfident Terry backs to the ropes.....and that's all she wrote. He was out before he hit the canvas, and I think Jackson got in another two of three on his way down - which aint good for your health.

Might even have been the reason Terry never held a good shot after that.

Give him credit though - next up Norris gets in with another massive puncher: John Mugabi.

Result: Norris KO1.

Amazing night that - just looked it up & it's 26 years ago tomorrow. I was staying in States are the time, and 3 different channels carried world championship boxing on the same day - so I was channel surfing watching the lot -

Weaver v Tate
Larry Holmes v Jones
Ray Leonard v Dave Green ( ouch )
Eddie Mustafa Muhammed v Marvin Johnson

The 80's were a real golden age, though people didn't really realise it at the time ( going on about the 50's and 70's etc etc )

I was about 9 years old, and I think the fight was being shown on a Sunday. I say that because my mum was ironing, and that was normally on a sunday. I watched a bit with her, and she went in the other room because she never liked boxing.

I can remember being absolutely stunned when Weaver laid Tate flat out, and running screaming into the kitchen to tell my mum the news.

Great stuff, and that was the fight that kind of started off my interest.

For some reason neither Graham or McCallum performed very well in that fight, might have been the mix of styles, but there was alot of wrestling and holding during the bout. I think Graham lost a point for throwing McCallum to the floor, seemed a bit harsh at the time to me.

Well, both were counterpunchers, McCallum always struggled a little bit with counterpunchers and stick and move merchants, Sugar Boy Malinga and James Toney for example.

Yeah true, It was a fight that was definatly winnable for Graham, he just didn't do enough in the end, I remember watching it and shouting at him to land more. All the rounds were close and a few extra punches could have swung it Grahams way.

you mean Sumbu Kalambay and Toney?

McCallum was befuddled by Kalambay in the first fight, and then edged him in a great rematch in Monte Carlo in 1990
