I do think that this is a poor show, but i also think that Williams v Harrison is a good fight, the bill would have been better if Skelton v Mcbride and Tak v Magee were also on their, but those fights have been called off.
I bet Frank must be worried that either Williams or Harrison will pull out of the main event
I am sure he, is but interestingly, the show is still sold out without those fights. If McBride and Magee pull out the show still stands up.

Bet you a years money it don't! Thompson entertaining? Is watching a once proud warhorse getting slowly damaged what you call entertainment? You, and the Promoters should be ashamed of yourselves keep putting Carl in. He has served his time and should hang up the gloves. Yes he got lucky with Haye but the Rothmann and Sellers fights were sad to see as Carl stood up and took much better against Eubank which means his punch resitance is gone and red flags should be flying.

If Carl Thompson is the best they can come up with on PPV then this is a sad state of affairs and proves they are penny pinching. Why not Clinton Woods?

.
I was at all of those fights, and Thompson didn't get lucky against Haye. Thompson is a canny old bugger, his balance is awful, but to be honest it always was, and having rewatched those fights on Video, most of the time Carl is just stumbling about because of his balance. He knocked the shit out of Rothmann with one punch, and as for Eubank, you aren't seriously going to tell me that Eubank hit harder than Sellers are you?

Thompson is his own boss, and he is the one who wants to keep on fighting, he wants one last payday, so I don't think you should be blaming Hobson and Waterman for that.

As for the Hennessy's, you've never had anything good to say about them until now.

I agree that this could all turn out to be bad business for Fight Academy, but then I've been saying that since day 1, when I heard the fight was being staged in Sheffield, and the huge payday Hatton was getting.

There's a Mystery Prize for anyone who can name the promoter, the boxer in question, and which promoter will be promoting this boxer's upcoming bout

I am disgusted and won't be promoting any fights involving him
I don't want to be responsible for him getting back in the ring

Coconut wrote:Well, despite your original post having some grain of useful iunfo and and underlying element of fact, you've descended into banal insults and non-sensical leaps of faith as quickly as ever.

Bradford is in Yorkshire. Same as Sheffield. I said county. Your point is non-existant.

I know the train times because I looked it up. It took 30 seconds. I like to call this 'research'. Please do the same with a map of Yorkshire. Should take the same amount of time.

Hamed and Ingle sold out the MEN? What does that say? Hamed fans were more used to going to fights in Manchester. He'd fought there a bunch of times before and had a Manchester fan-base. He also had the Asian appeal. You're not even comparing apples with oranges, you're comparing cars with cameras.

Using London as a benchmark is likewise non-sensical. London's got a massive, massive population. Hatton - Maussa would sell out in London.

Likewise using Manchester City as a benchmark is ridiculous. A Saturday afternoon match is a different ketle of fish to a Saturday night match.

Harrison - Williams has sold 13k on the back of it being promoted as also featuring two fights that didn't happen. I personally know a number of people who are considering not using tickets they've bought or who are actively trying to sell them. And I can't help notice the bill is still being advertised to blue buggery. And once again, the comparison is daft - two London fighters, heavyweights as well, promoted as part of a super-show, of course it will sell. And of course it will get more viewers. You're not comparing the same channels.

Your point about the ticket prices being too high is fair.

However, there's potentially a rejoinder in that the fans from the Tszyu fight had their fingers burned by a bad undercard and can see it happening again.

Your first point was worth a mention. Dragging it out into reams of crass arguments and bitterness does that original point no favours at all. Backing it up with logic as solid as a poo in Pakistan devalues everything you say.

In response,

You mentioned 'hometown' suggesting Witter comes from Sheffield. He does not. Sheffield and Bradford are cities within.

Train times - agreed, sarcastic comment aimed at trainspotters.

Hamed fans, Hamed was a draw everywhere, Hatton should be too. Hamed sold in all cities, clearly and I strongly believe but for this poor promotion that Hatton would also. He sold in Newcastle and London which are further than Sheffield. Face it, if it was not for his publicised dispute with allegedly then they would have had zero column inches.

Why not compare MCFC? Hatton's mob wear the shirts, he wears the colours and comes in to 'blue moon'. Are they not the city crowd, am I missing something here? City are at home to Liverpool on Saturday, hardley too far to treck to Sheffield to support their man. They have played away on many occasions when Hatton has fought and still attended his fights. It's about selling and FA cannot sell.

Population, yes London is big granted, but Sheffield is hardly the bloody Orkney's and they only need to get 12k.

If your friend are trying to sell tickets they aren't trying too hard, there is a waiting list at the SN Box office.

Blue Buggery, umm, you should stop that it will affect you in later life!
Advertising? is about both ticket sales and awareness. Awareness creates an event and if ticket's are sold viewing figures therefore increase and that has a very positive response from TV and their advertisers which in effect increases future revenue for the sport.

Did anyone really leave tne MEN feeling they had had their fingers burnt?

As for solid poo in Pakistan... I really cannot comment!

Well, if you do want to split hairs about Yorkshire then fine. I said hometown about the county, but perhaps should have made it clear. Or invented a new phrase.

Hatton got thousands to what was effectively a late bad bar with a title fight at closing time. Boxing fans like a drink and are then likely to be close to a bed. Football fans can have a drink before and after and still be in good time to get home / out.

I don't understand why you need to raise awareness for ticket sales if the event is sold out. Unless you're hopeful of nudging ITV figures up by a couple of hundred people who couldn't get tickets.

I left the MEN thinking I'd just seen a special fight and four hours of shit beforehand.

I read about 2 weeks ago that the Sheffield Arena had put more tickets on sale, why put more tickets on sale if the tickets that where originally on sales are going slow  ???

It's 'marketing'. You'd have been able to buy those tickets all along.

I work with a guy who knows the fight academy guys pretty well, i believe he's just gone and picked up his tickets for the fight, when he comes back i'll ask him what the fight academy people say they have sold.

Maybe Sheffield just isn't the place to sell a load of tockets. Manchester is obviously going to get more City fans than Sheffield, yes some will travel but many locals prefer to stay local. Londons a great place to sell a load of tickets. I don't believe Hattons apeal is as countrywide as Hameds - Hamed was a national celebrity - HUGE - Hattons just not as big. I bet a Hamed fight against a bum would bank more than Hatton-Maussa.

Maybe SN do handle media relations better than FA - they're certainly more experienced. I'm sure FA will learn and get better if thats the case. Maybe they can drop the price to sell out though

With a man as experienced as Kerry Kayes in his team, I doubt it very much Hatton is struggling with his weight. Kayes knows his stuff, and is a vital part of the team, IMO.

Anyway, I saw photos of Hatton's 15rnd body-belt session, and he looked to be in great physical condition. He's not struggling with his weight, no way!

[quote="boxingchat"][quote="josh fg"] Thompson entertaining? Is watching a once proud warhorse getting slowly damaged what you call entertainment? You, and the Promoters should be ashamed of yourselves keep putting Carl in. He has served his time and should hang up the gloves. '

Could'nt help but think of another fighter who up till now has been in some serious mismatches and he's only just starting out, think his names Khan.
wonder who his promoter is could it be that bloke called Fwank king of the mismatches

Regarding ticket sales course there not going to be has big , the mystique has gone, before no one was sure how good or bad Hatton was, some in fact most, were waiting too see if he could step up, When he did, he won , now just look at it Mausau has'nt got the name , Sheffield not the best place is it,

Nope Hattons bubble has burst , without the Manchester venue the only other place is London, to get the big ticket sales, untill he fights what the public percieve to be a dangerous one, I think you can expect his stock to go down even more and that don't matter WHO PROMOTES HIM.

Hatton is very very soon going to need Witter, thats the only fight in Britain for him . Other than that its got to be a rematch with Zoo or another huge fight like Mayweather or Zab and i seriously doubt they will come here for any amount of money , they know in britain with a british ref Hatton can and will get away with anything and everything. Maybee just maybee this little loss for fwanky has saved him millions, Cos lets face it we all know Hatton is gonna look to fill the bank balance a bit more before he goes after a big fight again .

Forecast it now , promters lose big , Fwanky and Ray kiss and make up Fwanky loses on the next one or too,Fwanky Ray and wicky all sit down and decide its now or never and Hatton goes for the big one

If Ricky gets over this one and i would'nt be suprised if he gets caught with a big one , this is going to be a very dirty fight while it lasts and I can see headbutts and cut eyes in abudance.but if he gets this one in the bank . he is never gonna have the same appeal has he did unless its big fights .

Nope Rickys up there now and his opponents have got to be percieved has worthy, this card though is still a joke cos with a decent undercard you could off still marketed this fight has a big one , the guy is a dangerous puncher has a good chin , and he has a will too win , Rickys in your face aproach will not faze Masau like it did Zoo he's not used to dominating anyway , and you can guarantee he will come back with the elbows ansd low blows if Hatton starts that shit

I find this implausible in the extreme. Warren is an extremely canny promoter, and consequently it strikes me that the last thing he would do is allow the star of his stable a free rein to pick who he faces. Input? Yes. Final choice? I just can't see it.
