BoxBuzz, you got my love of research going with this topic so here's what I found (some are active). There are many champions that fit the list with all the partial belts around.

I didn't count the WBO title or a title fight loss to someone who never won another title fight.

Here's the one anyone could win a bar bet on:
Rocky Lockridge, who lost 9 times to a who's who of boxing (Pedroza twice, LaPorte, Gomez, Chavez, Tony Lopez twice, Rafael Ruelas, Sharmba Mitchell)

Honorable Mention: Troy Dorsey-If he didn't lose an early fight to Scott Phillips, his final 10 losses were to 10 different champions (Tom Johnson, Jorge Paez, Medina, Kevin Kelley, Leija, Grove, DeLaHoya, Eddie Hopson, Jesus Chavez, and Gabe Ruelas)

How about these (there are definitely more and many already listed)

1) Esteban DeJesus-Duran twice, Saoul Mamby, Cervantes, Antonio Gomez

2) Thomas Hearns-Leonard, Hagler, Barkley twice, Uriah Grant (was an IBF Cruiser champ)

3) Virgil Hill-Hearns, Michalczewski, Jones, Mormeck twice

4) Paulie Ayala-Barrera, Morales, Joichiro Tatsuyoshi

5) Leonard Dorin-Arturo Gatti

6) Jung Koo Chang-Zapata, Chitalada, Kittikasem, Humberto Gonzalez

7) Tim Austin-Rafael Marquez

8) Jeff Fenech-Nelson, Grove, Holiday

9) Shane Mosley-Forrest 2, Winky 2

10) Naseem Hamed-Barrera

11) Orzubek Nazarov-only loss to Mendy, and Mendy defended the title

12) Diego Corrales-Castillo, Mayweather, Casamayor

13) Joel Casamayor-Freitas, Corrales, Castillo

14) Acelino Freitas-Corrales

15) Genaro Hernandez-De La Hoya, Mayweather

16) Oscar De La Hoya-Mosley twice, Trinidad, Hopkins

17) Rosendo Alvarez-Bebis Mendoza, Ricardo Lopez

18) Veeraphol Sahaprom-Hasegawa (defended title), Nana Konadu

19) In Joo Cho-Masamori Tokuyama twice

20) Myung Woo Yuh-Hiroki Ioka (had multiple defenses)

21) Samart Payakarun-Fenech, Eloy Rojas

22) Jack Root-George Gardner twice, Marvin Hart (didn't win a defense, but Root lost a vacant heavyweight championship fight to Hart)

23) Henry Maske-Virgil Hill

24) Zab Judah-Cory Spinks, Tszyu

25) Ray Mancini-Arguello, Bramble twice, Camacho, Greg Haugen

26) Jimmy Wilde (discounting a newspaper decision loss)-Pete Herman, Tancy Lee, Pancho Villa

27) Rocky Lockridge-Pedroza twice, LaPorte, Gomez, Chavez, Tony Lopez twice, Rafael Ruelas, Sharmba Mitchell

28) Percy Jones-Eugene Criqui, Joe Symonds, Tancy Lee

29) Jiro Watanabe-Gilberto Roman, Chul-Ho Kim

30) Sot Chitalada-Chang, Yong Kang Kim, Kittikasem twice

31) Fidel Bassa-Jesus Rojas

32) Yuri Arbachakov-only loss to Sasakul (defended title)

33) Chatchai Sasakul-Manny Pacquaio, Yuri Arbachakov

34) Eric Morel-Martin Castillo, Lorenzo Parra

35) Masashi Kudo-Ayub Kalule

36) Fernando Vargas-De La Hoya, Trinidad

37) Fabrice Tiozzo-lost to Virgil Hill twice

38) Christophe Tiozzo-Jeff Harding, Victor Cordoba (I believe he is related to Fabrice Tiozzo, but not sure)

39) Byron Mitchell-Calzaghe, Ottke, Bruno Girard (Calzaghe is WBO champ but a long-time champ)

40) Ike Quartey-Vargas, De La Hoya

41) Johnny Bumphus-Honeyghan, Gene Hatcher

42) Maurice Blocker-Trinidad, Norris, Brown, Honeyghan

dnahar, how did you go about this? Do you have access to the data base in some other way? Or did you just plain do it the old fashioned way and get busy with this?

Thank you.

Just so I am straight, this includes Linear,WBC,WBA,and IBF only. Correct? And the list still is this long...amazing.

Could you give me an example of the castaway rule? I think I understand it...by your exception Ingemar would not qualify is that correct?

...just about every fighter who's in the top thirty these days has held some kind of "world" title so a guy could go 10/44 and still lose only to "champions" it might be harder to find someone .top 42...who has lost only to NON-champions.

i haven't checked back on the castaway rule so i don't know what it is....but any rule that doesn't have ingamer....though not a good fighter....on its list can't be accurate. he won the title from a champion...lost it to the same champion....and lost it again ditto. these were his only losses.

now...let us say that ali had not made his comeback after the spinks fights. i would toss him out of this list as spinks was a champion only because he beat ali....so it was ali's failure....not his sucsess...that had him losing only to champions.
