And who wrote the article? I think everybody but this author saw Abraham winning that fight.

He's fought on ESPN2 against Sam Reese (and beat him quite convincingly when Reese was on a mini-steak having scored wins over Danny Trevino, Enrique Ornelas, and Tim Shocks). That was the first I'd heard of the guy and expected him to be upset by Reese based on how Reese had looked in his previous three fights. He looked raw, but very powerful, and that fight was at 168. He may've been on another televised card, but I can't recall.

He was also on the PPV card featuring Tua-Salif and he took out Sherwin Davis quite convincingly (both guys weighed in at around 157). Miranda is very muscular, and I didn't expect he could lose quite so much weight, but he looked fine at middleweight. Davis was 18-1 at the time, with his only loss being to Peter Manfredo. Earlier in his career, Davis had scored an upset win over 2000 US Olympian Dante Craig in Craig's hometown. Miranda blew the guy out in 3 rounds and looked much better than he did against Reese -- however, I will point out that other than Craig and Manfredo, Davis hasn't fought much in the way of decent competition.

this is a fucken joke right ? surely there are more deserved middleweights out there than eastman and EDISON MIRANDA. he must have a good manager, miranda.

There aren't so many big name middleweights around, Howard is a recognisable name I gues..

I personally don't see what he has done to deserve another crack, but then I dont work for the sanctioning bodies.

And the titles are pretty much split up (and we dont know if 1 or more fighters have turned down the eliminator)
Taylor, Sturm, Masoe, Abraham, Wright and probably also Hopkins dont have to/rejected the offer for the eliminator, that leaves Soliman and who else?

I haven't really been following European boxing (outside of the UK) recently, so can anyone explian why Sturm hasn't been given the eliminator, surely it would make more sense than Eastman again. Is it due to him and Abraham being with different promoters in Germany?

I though I'd heard Sturm was due to fight someone but there was nothing on his boxrec record so wasn't sure if it had been called off.

eastman is finished at world level,he should just retire

I know a lot about Edison Miranda. I've been to his 4 fights here in the States and he is very very impressive. He has come a long way since his fight with Sam Reese. His recored is padded, but you can only fight what is put in front of you. He has been stepping it up since fighting in the U.S. and looks unstoppable. I see him going through Eastman and AA for the IBF title this year.
He also has a great story. He was homeless from the age of 9 years old living on the streets of Colombia. His whole life has been a fight.

You can only fight was is put in front of you, yes this is true, however, you cannot tell how good someone is until they fight someone decent.

Nigel Benn looked awesome until he got the shit kicked out of him by Watson, and it took that to make him a better fighter.

He may turn out to be the next big thing at middleweight, but I've seen too many 'superstars in waiting' unravel when they face off against a decent and experienced veteran. Look at Bojado recently.

He was still good enough to give Arthur Abraham a tough and very even fight - and Abraham is considered the new semi-good at middlweight by some (me NOT included though).

You can have a pretty good idea. There's heart and raw talent. Dosen't matter who you fight, you either have it or you don't. It's not that hard to 'scout' who will be the next true contenders.

that s true to an extent i suppose, pantera. Sometimes its not who the fighter beats but the manner in which they beat them which gives you an idea of where theyre goin. But at the same time a fighter can look a million bucks against a journeyman only to be found out once they step up. But one things for sure, we'll get a very good indication of how far miranda will go from his performance against eastman.

I've seen Pantera Miranda fight in the U.S. a couple of times myself. For a guy that has been in boxing for 18 years, I can tell you something for sure - this 25 year old kid has raw talent. He also packs unthinkable power for a middleweight. After watching Eastman's last two fights, my prediction is that Pantera's aggressive style will wear Eastman down very fast. I look for a knockout in the mid rounds. If Pantera is trained properly, I see him being at the top of the middleweight division within 1 year!

He now trains with one of the top latin trainers, Jose Bonilla. This is the same guy that trained Trinidad and Casamayor many years. I think it is a great combo. Whatever flaws Miranda has, Bonilla is the right guy to tweak him. I see a middle round KO as well.

He'll have to be a hell of a puncher to KO Eastman, who has a very sound chin.
In fact, the Colombian looks a little over rated power wise - having gone 12 rounds with a light middle who was KO'd in 2 rounds just before.

Plus no one knows if he can actualy take a punch himself: he hasn't been in with anyone who can test his chin. Eastman will.....

Eastman took a flush bomb on the chin from Jerry Elliot who weighed in as a light heavyweight, he was stunned but never looked like going down.

Abraham has a far better record as a puncher, and Eastman took his shots.

I'll be very surprised if Eastman gets stopped.

Pantera's power can not be questioned as he floored his last oppponent with a viscious left body shot. Additionally, the kid has taken a few flush punches from a light heavyweight showing he has a chin. If it is true that he is working with a new team, then his defensive skills should improve, and they will exploit his amazing power. I would be extremely cautious if I was Howard Eastman.

And who was his last opponent.

I saw Nigel Benn floor various African roadsweepers with the wind from a shot....didn't mean much when he fought Watson.

Look at Kermit Cintron..The guy looked the real deal...untill he stepped it up with a real fighter.

unfortunately I dont think he has the work ethic to do it.

PLus by all accounts abrahma is on the up and is a better fighter now than he was vs howard last time.

I don't know what is is with Howard, it's almost like he's more concerned with winning looking effortless than winning. Maybe his stamina ain't that great, he always looks in shape though. Maybe he is weight drained, he did used to fight at SM. Whatever it is, he has pissed the latter half of his career away by underperforming in big fights.
