As far as I can tell ( I did ask at Dixons at got blank looks ) it's just two different systems - like Pal and NTSC. Either your machine can play one or the other, or some play both.
These are record ONCE only discs - but it's the same with the re-writable ones too ( record over and over again ) DVD-RW and DVD+RW.

I've found the + ones to be better overall. But both ultimately do the same job.

Most play both - I think its something like 93% of all machines plays both. Not many recorders though write on both systems.

Mighty, don't buy your discs in Dixons - unless you have a friend who can get you discount. Go on the net, there are shit loads of shops on the net where you can buy them at really cheap prices.

I have now got a machine who writes + and - r's, I have heard that -r's were better, but after buy a load of them - I will not buy them again. I had a +r recorder first of all and I much prefered them. I have found the -r's a nightmare.

Yes I find the same Stu: the -discs take a lot longer to do anything, and can be erratic.
