Jackson williams emailing regarding my spelling i was typing quick and i did not use a spell checker. Like someone said in an mail i do not have to have a degree in spelling to be teaching sports science.

I will take your advice and book myself into some english lessons (serious) and hopefully that will improve my punctation and wording.

I still think this is Lirva33 and another login name :-?
He does like a wind-up you know :TU:

Either way its still a very cautious match-up for a fighter being built up as the saviour of British boxing...its good to see cheer leaders here hyping his exceptional hand speed  :TU:

Put Khan in a competitive match and make us sceptics believers :x

I love the way Warren lambasted Harrison for years for doing the exact same thing he is doing with Khan. All this stuff about Khan 'not headlining bills' is absolute shit, his fights are on prime time ITV1 although technically he's not headlining shows he is as good as doing so his fights are getting better slots on ITV than the supposed main events. Granted Harrison was older than Khan at the time but I'm afraid good old Franks double standards have been exposed once again.

I dont mind Khan having a few soft touches but at least a rise in the ambition if not the level of opponent would be welcome at this point. How many 'gimme's' does an olympic silver medalist need before he steps it up he's had 5 so far!

Compare Khan's career trajectory thus far with Koki Kameda's. I know it's a different boxing culture in Japan, but the point still stands. Khan is a European level fighter already - he should be at least challenging for the British title by now. He isn't learning shit by walking through the nobodies (no disrespect to Jackson Williams, but it's true) he's facing at the moment. The kid needs SOME kind of a test before people start to lose interest.

He is too young to fight for the British title.

As much as I want to see Khan have something of a test, it is still 2 years or so too early for anything near British title level.

But that is still no excuse for non-competitive rubbish their selling now

Would you be happy with this fight for Khan's sixth professional if it was just on the undercard and not on prime time TV?

I'm quite happy to have it on prime time TV, I'm merely pointing out Warren's double standards as he caned Harrison continuously in his NOTW column for doing exactly what he is doing with Khan. Khan gets people tuning in to watch boxing, which can only be good for the sport in the long run. I do fear if they continue with this level of fights for too long people could lose interest. I don't think there is any harm in putting him in with a Welter with a solid chin who will go the full 6 rounds. That's the sort of thing I think they should be looking at. Putting him in with guys he'll blow away is great for the highlight reel but long term is it going to do him any good? NO!

According to Frnk Warren..

"As for Williams, he is rated number 24 in Britain by Boxing News at light-welterweight, and Khan is in the same position but in a division lower."

Why on earth is Khan rated at Lightweight? All his fights have been over that limit.

Either way he is learning nothing at all facing these guys.

If he faced this type of opponent on some undercard away from the media spotlight...?
Kind of different....most of us didn`t see the early fights of most of the big names of past British boxing, so the argument that he is only doing what is `normal` in padding his record may be correct, but is it really the correct way to do it?

What British fighter has really been dominant on the world scene in the last 50yrs?

Not many...if any are there, so maybe the method of having 10-15 silly fights is wrong.

What NickD writes is also a good point, he is getting people watching boxing again, but Audley got people watching in the beginning also, but the silly fights he had soon had people losing interest...and like they say once bitten .....

My friends who are not all big boxing fans already are bored of watching these Khan contests, he is getting too much hype, which in all fairness to the lad he will never live up to, and if he ever loses an early fight.....it will be hundred times harder to back from it....ask Audley

Yeah, I actually knew that. Total brain fart. Anyway, he should be fighting a higher level of competition no matter what, as I'm sure everyone agrees.

My thoughts exactly. I think the guy is potentially world class: His accuracy and handspeed is something to behold, even now. But he is essentially a lightwelter now, although I'm sure that if he was in a 2 month training camp, (rather than fighting every month), he could boil down to lightweight. So why is he fighting guys who are 1 or 2 weightclasses below him?

I'm loath to make the comparison with Hamed, because I feel it's unrealistic, and a crappy media invention to play upon the 'British Muslim' angle. But I do think Khan would benefit from facing a bigger guy who can throw the odd punch back, just like Naz got when he faced Buckley. That was the first time the Prince had to go the distance, and surely it held him in good stead for when he had to hear the final bell? Because he was just hammering guys his own weight domestically, but there's a big difference between domestic and world class at any weight.

Khan is not a massiver puncher, although he is uncannily accurate, and fast as hell with it. If he has pretensions of being a world champion at 21, he needs to get rounds in. And not just easy rounds: We've seen he can hammer away for 4 rounds, but he needs a test of fitness to pace himself for 6 or 8 rounds right now. Because when his shot comes, his opponent will still be standing after that initial flurry. It sounds harsh to criticise a guy who isn't even 20 yet. But he was on the cover of Boxing News at 17, and he really does look that good: He has to be judged by a different standard, whether it's fair or not.

As I said at the start of this thread, I know nothing about Jackson Williams, so I'm not criticising him as an opponent, not by a long stretch. My worry is that he'll take the fight to Khan, but may not have the chin to take it. Khan is quite clearly a counter-puncher, and seemingly a very, very good one at that. He needs fights where he'll learn something, and if that involves going 6 rounds against a guy on the back foot, so be it. Will ITV allow that though? Because whatever Allegedly says, he is the main event, even though Amir himself won't admit it.

one of the problems for Khan is trying to get learning fights , If he faced a good experienced journeyman that had say 15-20 losses on his record , to the non boxing fan this would be a rubbish fight , even though it may well be a good learning one for Khan.

Its because were in a TV age, where khan has to be facing guys with good records, and that means that he will face guys without much experience at the start of his career

In that case put him in with bigger guys not smaller. Welterweight nonpunchers who will see the final bell but wont beat him up there are plenty around who fit the bill. Far better than SuperFeather/Lightweight nonpunchers who get sparked in a round or two.

fair point , i'd like to see him take on Michael Grant, bit of history there as Grant won the ABA title when Khan pulled out.

Doesn't look to bad to me. Beaten the same calibre of opponents that Amir has not stopped anyone yet but had his guy on the mat last fight.

Not bad at this stage, I hope there isn't many more like this though!

I think i have good creditals to be fighting Amir, i may not be a puncher as you can see from my record but i have been offered the opportunity and i would be thankfully that you would appreciate and respect myself as a fighter and if i do a bad job then you can mock me as much as you like.

Absolutely, Boxingchat - good luck to Williams. Hopes he does himself proud.

Cannot say I have heard of you before now, but checking your record - its not a bad decent little 6 round test for Khan. If you don't freeze, you should take him a few rounds - if not, then it is Khan we should be praising and not slagging you off.

The boy Khan looks a bit special, so I'll take my hat of to you even if you fall inside a minute.

Williams has fought in front of a biggish crown before at Carrow Road, about 3000 at that one, so that should help him.

i'm surprised khan has already gotten critics after only a few fights!! he gets good press when he is mentioned in the usa!! what can you expect form a guy who has only been pro less than a year & is already fighting people as tough as any of the scrubs julio cesar chavez jr has fought in his first 23 bouts!!!
