Joking aside, the winner of Lacy v Calzaghe will undoubtedly be the premier supermiddleweight on the planet!! No shadow of doubt! Ok so either would have a tough time with Kessler, but that is a different issue.
I'm holding out for Joe to win, but I feel Lacy may be too strong and hungry.
The fcuk with it though, we've all pissed and moaned for years about the lack of quality opponents facing Calzaghe, now he is facing the biggest baddest SMiddle prospect about, and everyone is still calling him a cu nt!
Lacy is a fornicating machine!!!

It's not. Kessler is the prime reason why the winner of Lacy Calzaghe canNOT be considered the premier supermiddleweight on the plant.JimmyJamJerusalem wrote:Joking aside, the winner of Lacy v Calzaghe will undoubtedly be the premier supermiddleweight on the planet!! Btw, its'; pretty obvious that team Calzaghe picked Lacy because among the current beltholders he's the easiest and safest to beat. Lacy is strong, but limited and rather slow and has questionable defense. He's taylor-made for Calzaghe's flatfooted highspeed-slapping.

Quite possibly, but I cannot believe people are trying to make out Lacy is not an amazing opponent!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I cannot really see Calzaghe beating him, this is such a risk! fornicating Ottke!?!?!? He was beneath Calzaghe, the twat only fought in his back garden, against bum opponents....... er...... kinda like Joe, lol. The difference being Ottke was SHIT!!!!!!!

utter bollocks mate.
Kessler is looking good, no doubt, but has done nothing yet to suggest he's the mutt's nuts.
Lacy also isn't slow, or limited, if he was limited he wouldn't be putting together 4 punch combinations, you are talking shite.

Lol, I was in the crowd that night, and I was shouting Calzaghe all sorts of shit throughout the fight and after for the shit opponent. He was embarrassed as he usually blows his shit opponents away, and loks good, but this time he had to go 12 with a bum!!!Terence wrote:I give Lacy all credit. You are a bit harsh on Ottke who did more than Joe IMO and gets unfair stick. He had a conservative but effective style and he never paraded around after a shit fight cradeling his sore hand. Joe looked like a school kid who fucked up on sportsday that night.JimmyJamJerusalem wrote:Quite possibly, but I cannot believe people are trying to make out Lacy is not an amazing opponent!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I cannot begin to express how much I hated Ottke and his home town decisions! How can anybody think he beat Reid? Not in a million years!! Look what Lacy did to Reid....
Look at how more decisivly Calzaghe beat Mitchell 3 months after Ottke won a 'split' decision against him. Fcuk me even Tocker Pudwill took Ottke 12 rounds wtf???
Ottke was pants.
Lacy and Calzaghe are the two best Super Middleweights in the world today. Simple as that.

Kessler is by far the best super-middlweight in the world. Simple as that. Calzagthe and Lacy fight each other to avoid sure and humiliating defeat by the hands of Kessler.JimmyJamJerusalem wrote: Look at how more decisivly Calzaghe beat Mitchell 3 months after Ottke won a 'split' decision against him. Btw, Ottke boxed both Mitchell's and Pudwill's ears off, as he did with most opponents, while Mitchell FLOORED Calzaghe with a shot that wouldn't have caught Ottke in a thousand years.
In a nutshell: Ottke was a fine and accomplished champ. Kessler will be, he is Ottke's one and only legitimate successor. Third-rate slapper Calzaghe is not, and never will be. It's just not in him.

Just when did Kessler prove himself the world's best supermiddle, after two defences?!
Please let us know ASAP, as the rest of the world have obvioulsy missed this "defining" fight.
And PLEASE - Sven Ottke???? Going 12 rounds with Tocker Pudwell just about sums him up - and should eliminate any doubt he was 2nd best during his reign.
And you're talking bollocks about Ottke/Mitchell - did you even see the fight? Probably not. I seem to recall Mitchell almost took Sven's head off with a similar shot in the last round, leaving Ottke holding on for dear life.

Kessler went to Australia and soundly beat Mundine, at the time the Ring magazine's number 3. Calzaghe has never done anything like that (in fact, he ducked Mundine openly), neither has Lacy.Just when did Kessler prove himself the world's best supermiddle, after two defences?!
Please let us know ASAP, as the rest of the world have obvioulsy missed this "defining" fight.
I don't know who was the second best - one of Echols, Glencoffe, Lucas, Beyer, peak Brewer, perhaps even Calzaghe. The best was of course Ottke. And PLEASE - Sven Ottke???? Going 12 rounds with Tocker Pudwell just about sums him up - and should eliminate any doubt he was 2nd best during his reign.
Sure I did. Ottke boxed Mitchell silly for 10 rounds, then gave the last 2 rounds away.re talking bollocks about Ottke/Mitchell - did you even see the fight?
Yeah, Ottke's concentration slipped for a sec as he felt already like the sure winner. After the fight he was very angry with himself. Still Ottke wasn't FLOORED like a little dumb schoolboy as Calzaghe was.I seem to recall Mitchell almost took Sven's head off with a similar shot in the last round, leaving Ottke holding on for dear life.

12 stone can be big for that height though and he looks really thin when he's in shape.jamesmcdonnell wrote:He's only 5 foot 11, it's not like he's a giant.Max Molyneux wrote:Dunno he said on some BBC audio interview he walked around with 14 stone and he sure doesn't look fat inbetween fights.
He is tall though so it could be that
But hey it's his build so I dunno.
Can;t assume that though just because it's happened alot and he is fighting someone everyone wants him to fight this time.If Joe wins he'll fight A.N.Other TBA IMO.
I agree with Mightywarrior anyway. :P
I agree with you but if it wasn't for his hand he would of stopped him when he was hurt.Lol, I was in the crowd that night, and I was shouting Calzaghe all sorts of shit throughout the fight and after for the shit opponent. Not sure though that hand injury could of been made up to hype March 4th though and make Lacy become a bit cocky, not saying it's true though just a thought.
To those it may concern.....
I just thought I'd give a friendly knock on a neigbors door and remind all the folks on the other side of the pond that Jeff Lacy will soon be packing his bags and dropping in to your neck of the woods for a spot of tea. On his way he will be picking up a nice new shiney belt for his collection. He'll be cleaning a clock that is due for some adjustments and returning back stateside in less time than it takes to shine the QueenMums kettle.
Why do I bring this up? Because as one of the moderators of the "boxers of the past" forum, I look forward to chatting and reviewing the record and glory days of one "Joe Calzaghe". It will an honor and a privilege and I look forward to many discussion in historic terms of this legend of pugilism. He will be joining such illustrius names as Sven Ottke on the forum board!
Please feel welcome to drop in and chat on this subject anytime after early March. Otherwise I know that for the moment the Current Scene or the British forum is the ongoing appropriate place for such banter.
I'm keeping a thread reserved with his name on it for March 5th.

Firstly, Calzaghe has never ducked Mundine you muppet (and yes, that's the same Mundine who was getting the better of Ottke before that freak punch). Secondly, Calzaghe going to Germany and KOing Veit is exactly like that.
The rest of your post just involves the use of rhetoric in a vain bid to throw up a smokescreen and avoid the validity of Mighty Warrior's points.
Ottke managed a robbery win against Robin Reid among several controversial 'hometown calls', while Calzaghe has tended to clearly dominate his opponents, either forcing a stoppage or winning a landslide points decision. The only close fight he's been involved in was Robin Reid, but most still feel he did enough to win against the man who CLEARLY beat Ottke.

Ottke won't make a Hall of Fame because a) he wasn't great (he was merely very good ) and b) he was allowed to take on shite opponents whenever he felt like it. Same with Calzaghe really. I mean 17-20 title defenses once upon a time made you a legend. The peaks and valleys in these guys' opposition level is totally shocking. But they deserve credit for being successful modern day sportsmen.
Since 2003 Kessler's level of opposition has been pretty good. Lucas & Mundine are better than the recent guys Lacy (vs Pemberton, Reid) and Calzaghe (Ashira, Salem) have been facing.
I like the look of Kessler. He would batter Beyer with his jab alone. His good boxing skills and size would be a great foil to Lacy's aggression. I'll have to root for Lacy to beat Calzaghe, as JL and MK seem to be the only ones bothered about unification. When these younger guys like Bute and co break through this will be an intriguing division.
Watch out for Lucian Bute, of Canada. He beat the hell out of Salem. Composed southpaw with great power, absolutely trounced the Egyptian spoiler recently.

Oh boy. Veit is a six-rate bum compared to Mundine and had never fought anyone of note. Mundine took Ottke into deep waters for a couple of rounds, but then ran out of gas and would have lost anyway. And the Ottke who lost to Reid (and to Larsen before) was the old Ottke whose legs had gone and who duly retired afterwards - and who had nothing to do with the slick and fast Ottke of 2001/02.Deserter wrote:Firstly, Calzaghe has never ducked Mundine you muppet (and yes, that's the same Mundine who was getting the better of Ottke before that freak punch). And of course Calzghe ducked Mundine - by making such an instulting "offer" that Mundine had no choice but decline. This was the preferred Calzaghe-way of ducking.

Untrue. Ottke fought every mandatory the IBF put in front of him, and these were - in contrast to the Mgr Mgrychatuans - tough guys: Brewer, Glencoffe Johnson, Tate, Butler, Branco, Larsen. PLUS he made plentiful voluntary defenses; there is nothing wrong with that. Overall he fought on average 4 times a year, compared to Calzaghe's 2.viciousmaussa wrote:Ottke won't make a Hall of Fame because a) he wasn't great (he was merely very good ) and b) he was allowed to take on shite opponents whenever he felt like it.

ottke did do some good things and he did beat some good/decent foes who were ranked. i also respect his fighting style. but i don't like matchups with Thomas Tate, Podder Tockwell & Joe Gatti.
i mean, Gatti's brother was KOd by Terry Norris two divsions down 5 or 10 years before. and Tate faded away after giving Julian Jackson a hard scarp in the early 90s. Nasty
