Jan 1st I was fed up - I'm quite stocky I suppose but at about 5'9" and just over 14 stone, I was too heavy. Still am.

But 'just cutting down' was doing me no good. And I refuse to compromise on booze. Along with watching too much sport, it's the only vice I have in life.

I got a book from someone called 'Food Optimising' from Slimming World and I lost half a stone in four weeks and still boozed on a weekend. It's an easy to follow, quite flexible plan. Basically you have 'red days' when you can eat all the meat you want - you just avoid rubbish food, bread, taties and pasta. Then you can alternate with green days where you can have plenty of carbs but no meat.

Helped me focus a little bit. Of course, I've since gone back to my old ways, but at least I know it can be done quite painlessly!

Good luck mate.

Check this out.............

A guy from work eats Burger King, McDonalds and KFC, not in that order, nearly every single lunchtime. He drinks beer mosts nights and does zero exercise, yet he weighs 10 stone with hardly any body fat!!

Some people don't realise how lucky they are.

You won't think he's lucky when he's clutching his chest due to a coronary disease-induced heart attack.

The lad will still be saturating his arteries with fat, even if he isn't putting the beef on...well, I would have thought so anyway.

Squats are said to send the metabolism into over-drive(largest muscle group), so start the day with a couple of sets.

And porridge is fantastic for filling you and gives you more energy than any other brekkie, just use water..no milk and no sugar.

Exercise when you get home, before you eat, I never feel hungry after exercising.

Gradually cut the amount you eat....

Cut out the booze all together....you will not believe the amount of weight this will shift.

Hey, I took him to the lake district to climb Sca fell Pike............he couldn't even make a quarter of the way up. He was a disgrace, he is only 29 and some of the other chaps who are over 40 left him for dead.

If you want to chase Olympic Gold medalists around then eat Mr Kipling cakes and Snickers. However if you want to wrestle bears then lay off the cakes.

Managed to lose almost a stone in weight over January by not drinking. I cycle to work and back which gives me a metabolism

I've fallen off the wagon now, and I'm thinking of having another dry month in March, I've started doing weights and press ups again, but now I'm drinking the gut is starting to expand again.

Trouble with dieting is that they NEVER work long term. They are a good short term solution to shifting weight, but overall exercise and sensible eating is far better.

Managed to polish off a bottle and a half of red wine last night and two beers, and probably the equivalent of 2 bottles and half a gram of sniff on friday, not a good weekend, dissapointed in myself. Must try harder.

I weighed 14st 5lbs , started cycling to work , about 4 miles each way, lost a stone quickly, its better than running for me , as i've got a dodgy knee, at one point i was down to 12stone but now 12.7.

One of the most importent issues is not eating huge portions at meals, and to vary what veggies and fruit you eat.

I'm going to attempt a Tri- athlon later in the year, so will give me something to aim for. Seeing as i swim like a brick and run like theres something wrong with me , it will be interesting to see how it goes.
its only a mini triathlon, swim 600m, cycle 22 miles, run 4.2 miles

I have put up a punchbag in my Flat, but living on the top floor i don't think the bloke who lives below me is too impressed

I was 14.9 at the end of the ashes last year, fat bastard I know as All i did was drink piss and eat take aways half the summer, but 4 weeks no booze and excercise I was down to 13.8, Ive put a few pounds on again since drinking once more but nothign like post the cricket.

Found this company called British Military Fitness, which do army-type circuit training for civilians in the evenings. Really good workout, and it will get the weight off pronto. Loads of chicks do it as well, so plenty to watch.!

If want to loss fat start with ur diet, its the most important aspect of changing ur appearance. U r what u eat!

The first thing is to wake up early(6am)! This kick starts ur metabolism which means ur body automaticlly starts using more calories. Try to divide the amount of food you eat into 5 or 6 meals thourgh out the day. I know its tuff if u work all day, but eating little through the day then loading up at night slows ur metabolism down! And rememmber always have breakfast! dowing this helps ur body use alot more calories when its at rest!

Excerise wise theres loads u can do! If u hate runnin dont do it! otherwise u will lose intrest after a few weeks and revert back to ur old ways! The key wen aiming to reduce bodyfat is to find ur ideal heart rate at which ur body will most effectively burn calories. (theres usually a little graph on the cv machines at the gym that tell u this or it can be calculated) So simplely walkin will give u little results in terms of fat loss! bag work is ideal, provides the body with both aerobic and aneraobic excerise, but allways maintain a high intensity!

Including weights into ur workout after a few weeks of CV training will also dramaticlly reduce ur bodyfat and build new muscle. Rememmber u wont build any new muscle mass unless u provide the muscle with progressive resistance, so running, boxing ect wont help u develope an overall phsyic. But then if u only want to lose weight you shouldnt be that worried about it. (it will help u lose a lot more fat thou)

Check out this site. its the best site on the net for losing weight, buildin muscle ect
http://www.bodybuilding.com

It wil help u developa suitable diet plan and fitness program to follow suited to ur needs!

Actually, low intensity exercise is very good for burning fat. Fast walking will shift more weight per calorie expended than running, it's just that running burns dramatically more calories overall, but it's actually less efficient.

I used to go to the gym and go like the fornicating clappers on the exercise bike at full chat and wondered why I wasn't shifting any excess weight, until the gym instructor told me I was wasting my time as I would get fitter doing that, but not leaner.

sustained bouts of low intensity exercise cause your body to start using up fat storage.

During the week I exercise about four different days, running about 5k each time, then light weights (8kg dumbells) for about ten minutes. I eat reasonably ok, three meals per day and never snack or drink alcohol. I also smoke about 10 cigarettes per day.

At the weekend I don't do any exercise, smoke up to 40 per day, get plastered, chase tail, sleep very little and eat a lot of shit food. But I drink as much water as I can to assist my daytime recovery.

It seems to be working well enough at the moment.

Firstly well played to the chaps shedding weight.

I've lost about 2 stone since November, which wasn't (but became) a concious decision - I was very busy at work and cut out the cakes.

Fad diets are bollocks, even if they work in the short term. Ulitmately it's a lifestyle choice. You have to make regular exercise part of your day - I do 20-25kms on an exercise bike every day (don't like running you see) or go to a gym and lift a few weights/piss about on the running/rowing machines. Someone did tell me that when exercising not to go flat out but at 80% for fat burning. Something to do with aerobic and anaerobic (sp?) exercise.

I also am more careful with what I eat - I eat a lot of soups. Hearty soups. They are piss-easy to make and very nutrious. PM me and I'll suggest some recipes. Or look at the BBC website. I also eat a lot of fruit and yoghurt. I'm told (by a teacher who has experience of dealing with teenagers with eating disorders) that an 80/20 way of eating is good - this basically means that if you eat 20 meals a week 16 should be good and wholesome and 4 can be whatever you want. In other words 10 pints and a curry on a Saturday night followed by 4-5 days exercise and healthy eating might be OK.

Another thing I do is drink a glass of water every time I feel hungry outside mealtimes then wait 5 mins and see if I'm still hungry. Apparently your body can give out hungry signals when it's just thirsty.

Finally, and this might be utter bollocks, but if I have a drink at home I plump for a good malt (although a crap one would do!) rather than a beer - I presume that with there being less volume there's less calories.

Good luck!

Good bit of advise about drinking a glass of water wen u feel hungry.
Aim to drink around2-5litres depending on ur size through out the day
