Tommy Ferguson 1-2 (1)ko plus 10 nds

George Chip 42-16-3 (36) kos FORMER WORLD MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=011253
Wow! who knew george chip was born in Scranton? He didn't live in Scranton but I put him on the list anyway. He only lived right down the road. This guy is right up there with Latzo and Jimmy Goodrich. He beat Frank Klaus by knockout for the title in 1913 then he defended the title 6 times. He also fought Mike and Tommy Gibbons on several diff. occations losing newspaper dec.s He also amazingly beat Harry greb twice in newspaper dec. He was a real hall of famer.
Man it makes me depressed looking back on what a big boxing town this once was. Back in the coal mining days this city was twice the size it is today and according to both my grandfathers EVERYONE boxed back then. The talent pool was huge. Even in the later days when the coal mines closed and the city started shrinking there was still a butt load of good fighters. it wasn't until Atlantc City legalized gambling and started bringing big fights there that boxing in Scranton realy started to die.
I makes me sad thinking of what I could have been if Id been born 100, 50, or even 20 years earlier. Now I'm stuck here in a dead end job with realy noone to train with. i wish I was alive back then. It would have been a paradise for me.
