Matty come on Lacy was definetly hype. He was good in few of his fights but all of you bought the hype. You all thought he would come over here and KO Calzaghe. Therefor you all must of thought Jeff was something he clearly wasnt.

Or maybe Jeff is a great boxer, but Calzaghe is just a supreme individual with outstanding talent.

Oh, I certainly bought the hype, but that doesn't mean Lacy is a bust because he got outboxed by the #1 in his division. I had an opinion in which I felt I backed up with reason very well, and it just didn't work out that way.

I said Jeff would lose a ton early, and after the 6th, Joe would tire, or his had would start to give, and Jeff would let his hands go. Jeff lost early, Joe stepped off the gas a bit after the 6th, but Jeff never let his hands go. Like I said earlier today, 2 of 3, but got the most important part of the 3 wrong. Great fight for Joe, he boxed a perfect fight for Lacy. I'm really hoping he stays for Kessler because there's so much potential in SMW, with the current title holders, the up and comers, and the rest of the contenders.

This thread is ott and lacks class, in my opinion. Sure, the yanks would probably be doing the same if their man had won, but that doesn't make it right.

I find this humorous -- to be so proud of Calzaghe, yet demean his win by criticizing Lacy. If Lacy is overhyped and was a fraud, then Calzaghe's win is meaningless rather than monumental.

This Brits v Yanks debate every time there's a fight between an American and someone from the British Isles is ridiculous. I've got relatives in the Isles, so I especially couldn't be bothered with it. I can't speak for the Box Rec forum, but everyone I knew over here, wanted to see Lennox Lewis KO Tyson.

The US has a much greater population than you folks, and consequently produces more top class fighters. That being said I acknowldege that Hatton and Calzaghe are both two of the world's best PFP.

Exactly and critisising a fight who gave his warrior best, got beat senseless and may be brain damaged all for your viewing pleasure is below classless.

Lacy was overhyped but he was also a very good pressure fighter who met someone who was all wrong for him. If PBF beats Hatton in a similar way is Hatton overhyped and never that good too? Was Trinidad overhyped and never good? Every fighters overhyped thats how fights are sold.

as an extremely patriotic american who has a knack for offending many euros with my "nationalistic tendencies" i dont see what all the fuss and oversensitivity is about...if you can dish it out, you BETTER be able to take it & i can do both...

however i have only one slight change to make on your list...changing the positions of mesi & grant..."babied" joe mesi surpasses even the embarrassing morrison and unless he can prove otherwise...MESI CLEARLY DESERVES TO BE #1 based on the fact that overblown cruiser vasily jirov has looked terrible against every other heavy he has fought & essentially exposed mesi for the overhyped media creation that he is!!

grant on the other hand showed great heart in getting off the canvas against golota (when andrew still had something) and his win there may even drop him out of the top 5 IMO...he should have retired years ago, but his hype died long ago anyway!! and guinn's rep was built on his manhandling of a completely washed up grant, so i'll leave him at #4...

What I've always admired of British fight fans is the natural love of the sport and nonbiased acceptance of boxing as a major sport lacking here in the states. Calzaghe put on one hell of a show last weekend. Let's stick to that. I think you will find most US fans actually aknowledge that and give him his props. Who the hell cares about any of this other pitterpat nonsence.

AS YOU WILL SEE NOONE RATS LACY AS THE MOST OVERHYPED!

sure there was hype. two undefeated titleholders going at it, one of whom tapped into the brooding Tyson/Liston aura. lacy and his team hyped him for greatness and they found out he was merely a very good slugger who couldn't do anything when confronted with a bigger, faster man who punched with shocking fluidity, workrate, etc. the fights with Reid and Pemberton got everyone pretty excited. I mean it was something to see him stop iron chin Reid; those uppercuts were superb and he even showed a snappy jab.

one thing i noticed is that lacy seemed consumed by something between rage and anxiety. a lot of nervous energy that he hoped would translate into a ferocious fight execution. he seemed particularly antisocial and worked up the week before the fight.

on the other hand, i wouldn't believe how relaxed Calzaghe was, especially in the pre fight interview - yawning, smiling, interrupting the interview to see how Enzo Mac fared on the undercard. seems like the mental states as well as Calzaghe's class/speed were a major factor.

Clzaghe KNEW he was going to win.Lacy realised that he was not ready for Calzaghe. Personally - have never been too impressed with Lacy.

Lacy s a good strong slugger -also - people need to know Calzaghe walks around at about 14st and is the naturally bigger man by far!
