I didn't see the "today" part in the post title...... Now that I do, Ouma is an awsome choice for a movie......

I heard that when Ouma came to America he said he wanted to train for a single fight with Oscar De La Hoya and he could support his family for years from that single fight....

Meldrick Taylor would be awesome! (I'm a HUGE Taylor fan)

Oscar De la Hoya has a high chance to be cheesy

Riddick Bowe would be interesting also

Diego Corrales i would like to see, or maybe even Pernell Whitaker

Bobby Chacon with the right directors and writers could be "Raging Bull"-esque

To put a twist on the topic, how about Mills Lane? Marine, boxer, prosecuter, referee.......could be interesting.
Joe Pesci = Mills Lane?

vinnie pazienza.he returned to the ring rather successfully after doctors said he would have trouble just walking, for the remainder of his life.

roberto duran.his domination of the lt wt division, his rise and fall in the welter wt divison, his ability to bounce back and overcome adversity and prove the boxing experts wrong, and his neverending support and sympathy towards the poor people of his native homeland.

george foreman.need i say more.

sonny liston.it would be a semi autobiography and part documentary type flick that would reveal the man outside of the ring.

jack johnson.his defiance and rebelliousness would be the center focal point in this entertainingly inspiring biographical drama based flick.

carlos monzon.allready mentioned.i totally agree.although, like liston and johnson,he's before the 80's,it would nevertheless make for an entertaining piece of filmwork.it would have his personal relationship conflicts, his party life, his defiance of extreme adversity(ex-boxing with a bullet in his shoulder.),and his famously cool calm confident demeanor. :box:

The life of Gerrie Coetzee would make a great film.

Born in poverty, excluded from various amateur tournaments because he was a South African - to racist bigots who wanted him dead because of his anti - aparthied stance. His exciting fights with Tate, Weaver, Snipes, Thomas and his win over Dokes for the title.

>>>he becomes Germany's first recognized world champ since Max Schmeling.<<<

Not really. Maske was just a claimant holding one of the three belts...no different than Adolf Heuser holding claim of IBU World Light Heavyweight Champion in the late 1930s! In actuality there is no difference, except at the time of Heuser there were really only two people trying to hold claim as World Champion whereas during Maske's reign there was at least four.
