Last time I checked, neither Beyer, Veit, or Calzaghe were American, and pundit doesn't even like Lacy....so now where you headed?

I don't think any of these comparisons hold. Beyer is much faster on his feet than Veit, more agile, has better reflexes. Hence Calzaghe will find it much, much harder to corner and overwhelm Beyer. And Green put an unfocused Beyer down twice, but Beyer got up as often and, as a matter of fact, got back into the fight. Besides, Calzaghe doesn't have the one-punch-power Green posesses.

The key factor is: Calzaghe prefers fighters who stand in front of him, such as Lacy or Veit. This is when his outstanding handspeed can take full effect. But Beyer won't stand in front of him. This does not mean that Beyer will win, but it means Calzghe-Beyer is a different ballgame from most of Calzaghe's other fights. In fact, a ballgame where we don't really know how good Joe masters it. Which would make the match-up interesting.
Hey chap Calzaghe has fought 41 fights not just 1, you sound very nieve in thinking that was his first fight he's fought all types of fighter in the past and beat them all. I'd put big money on Calzaghe destroying Beyer. But the fight wont happen anyway because there's a good reason why he was ducked by them so called great overhyped Americans like Jones and Hopkins
This saidl, the fight that really should be made is Calzaghe-Kessler. Team Calzaghe appears to offer unification fights to everyone but the Dane these days.

You wonder why.
Calzaghe has been a world champion for 8 years where he has been repeatedly ducked. Kessler sounds like he's the first champ in 8 years who deserves the name champ in that he will fight Calzaghe. But Calzaghe has said the fights from now on are all about financial security for him and his family so it looks unlikely. A uniform response responce from an american your nievety and stupidity is so so predictable.

Yup, the fact you're convinced EVERYONE ducked Calzaghe shows your nieveity, my man. Calzaghe is far from the perfect fighter many people have built him up to be...outside the ring moreso than inside.

I'v followed his whole career and know for a FACT that he has been ducked, the only reason Lacy fought him was because his people thought Calzaghe was washed up. You carry on reading your american biased websites etc. instead of trying to have a more balanced view.

Here here, just ignore them, american losers, like Lacy.

Lets be honnest you have to be working pretty heard to go 8 years without a unification fight. All he needed to do was swallow some pride and go overseas.

I was cheering for Calzaghe, he seems like a nice bloke and he put in a hell of a performance. However as a boxing fan I would like him to go for the best and most competitive fights out there.

Those to me look like two unifications as SM both of which I think are good and hard fights and the Tarver Johnson or woods fight at light heavy. He could get easy money fighting jones but I think those fights are bad for the sport because it will be a miss match not matter how prepered RJJ is his reflexes are shot.

Overseas to where?. Other than Jones and Hopkins (who wouldnt fight him) the best fighters have been in Europe and people like Ottke would never of fought Calzaghe in a million years. The thing i do say though is he should of ditched SM and moved up in weight years ago because that would of been the only way he would of got the fights he wanted.

He's already said he will go for the most lucrative fights to secure the future of his family.

Beyer would never ever fight Calzaghe. And Kessler would not generate much money at all. And most american commentators would say he's fighting another bum anyway because Kessler isnt American so he must be a bum.

I appriciate he wants to secure his families futour and I don't blame him for that, but as I said as a boxing fan I always want to see the best fights. I think that the Ottke fight could have been made if Calzaghe had gone over to germany but who knows.

I think the real money would be at light heavy but any unification fight is worth a fair penny esspecialy with people getting excited over his last fight.

Beyer is a quite superb boxer. His win over Sheika was masterful. He's got a fine jab and a superb stiff left cross, but is a tad fragile. I doubt it happens. Beyer came out of his comfort zone to Take his first title, beatig Woodhall, but it's doubtful it happens again. it the tv situation rules it out it'd have to happen at a later date

Calzaghe got his biggest purse in the Veit-fight si IMO he could earn 2-3 million euros. I am not sure whether they pay him like that in the US.....

IMO the best and most dangerous fighter for Joe is Jürgen Brähmer but he needs some more fights for a title fight, but he will be the one who will be the next man in the division.

Beyers advantage is that he is hard to calculate. he could box like shit for 8 rounds and then he could knock you out. His best performance was against Grenn where he showed how good he is against punchers. Beyer shows his best performance when he counters. It would be easier for Joe to fight guys like Tarver, Woods, RJJ or Johnson. These guys are easy to handle.

I would love when Joe comes over. I love his style and I enjoyed the fight in Braunschweig. Beyer is another calibre than Veit. But: BRING ON THAT FIGHT!!!!!!!!! 60/40 for Joe

I think this will be a great fight, Both are skilled boxers and it would be real chess match. Beyer fought a great counter punching fight in the second fight against Green and could cause a bit of trouble for Calzaghe.
I would predict a Calzaghe win by UD or Late KO but in a fairly close fight.

SN are using this tactic quite a lot recently - all those bogus stories running in the press about Khan and Mitchell straining at the leash to get at each other...a fight which will obviously never happen, unless one of them ends up on the scap heap that is.
I agree, the SportsNetwork spindoctors are in full swing again flooding our thoughts with fools gold. Calzaghe v Beyer will never happen.

Now, how long shall we wait before we see a similar press release but with Kesslers name in the headline? A bloody long time i think.............

They know its the fight to make, but whats the chances of Calzaghes next defence being against another fringe contender while we are told its a stop gap fight before a big unification with Beyer or a super fight (cough cough) with Jones Jr in the Autumn. With all the hype around Calzaghe it may seem like an impossible task to try and put him in with a stiff now, but the Sports Network spindoctors are some of the best in the buisness and i'm sure they will be up for a challenge of this sort :D :box: :P

You sound very nieve. The spin is coming from Beyers camp. As i'v said he wouldnt fight Joe in a million years and Beyer is just spinning the situation to suit himself. joe wont fight Kessler either because theres not enough money in it i wouldnt of thought. All of joes fights will probably now be big money fights at light heavy no matter what you'd like people to believe.

You're the one being naive if you think all the spin is coming from Beyer's camp. If there's no chance of him taking the fight, why is it being offered?

I agree it won't happen, although I wouldn't mind seeing it. But I'd rather see Kessler in with Calzaghe.

if SN offered Beyer a fight, then we have to wonder where the Calzaghe-Jones negotiations went. hopefully in the bin, where they belong!

seems however that they're haggling - offering money that Beyer doesn't deem suitable, same day as the world cup final which will make it less of a fight in Germany. maybe they want the fight but are checking how much they can get away with.

realistically, Calzaghe will either fight a fringe guy OR a worthy mandatory on July 8, and then set up a unification maybe in Oct or Nov, when Beyer's camp want it.

at least it seems as if more super middle plans are being set out, which is something. if Joe can clear up s/m, I'm sure Glen Johnson will be the only top guy in America left standing when JC want sto move up

what a change:

"Daily Post

JOE CALZAGHE'S dream of a shot at the legendary Roy Jones Jr will move a step closer to reality later this month.

Manager and promoter allegedly is to meet Jones' lawyer, Jim Thomas, in the hope of finally bringing the two men together.

A press release from Sauerland Event stated that their company has recieved an offer from Sports Network about a unification bout between IBF/WBO super middleweight king Joe Calzaghe and WBC super middleweight champion Markus Beyer.

However, promoter Wilfried Sauerland stressed that neither the money offered nor the suggested date are acceptable.
"We will keep negotiating and would like this attractive bout to happen in September or October of '06," he said.

Markus Beyer will defend the title May 13 in Zwickau."

I'd prefer Beyer to Roy Jones, no doubt about that, but Kessler's the guy I'd really like to see Calzaghe face. They're the best two in the division.

So you list the classy evasive counterpunchers Calzaghe has fought in his career.

Exactly one name comes to my mind - Robin Reid. And this fight Calzaghe almost lost. Thereafter he never took that risk again.
But the fight wont happen anyway because there's a good reason why he was ducked by them so called great overhyped Americans like Jones and Hopkins
Yawn. A beltholder fights nothing but tomatco-cans and has-beens over 10 years, but his nuthuggers still believe he was ducked rather than he ducked tough opposition.
But Calzaghe has said the fights from now on are all about financial security for him and his family

You believe that crap?? Btw, which family??
so it looks unlikely.
It looks unlikely because Kessler would be a fight Calzaghe could lose - in contrast to Lacy.

But I'd be happy to be convinced of the contrary. Bring on that fight, Joe.

Cheers, P

Thank You!!!

He has been known, well not him but his buddy Warren has, to send out insulting offers to other fighters, such as the one he sent to Beyer, and play it off as him being ducked. Don't call it people ducking him when it's not worth it to them to take the risk of fighting him. It took him 8 years to finally get another beltholder to come fight him, and there is more than one reason people don't take fights besides fear of losing.

Calzaghe put on a great show vs Lacy, but to claim that he has been ducked as much as you imply...please. Let's all remember who his promoter is.

Seems you haven't seen Beyer in a while. Beyer-Sheika was pretty impressive; and Beyer-Green II was VERY impressive, at least for 11 rounds. Beyer seems to be back where he was when he stepped onto the scene.

Yes he fought better than his previous fights but he is still not the same fighter.

If I hadnt seen him in a while why would I comment brains?

Beyer looked brilliant against Sheika. I've never seen him that good. Of course Sheika is a limited/tough sort who was the ideal candidate to make Beyer look good, but nonetheless Beyer showed he was a seriously skilled fighter. He would actually give Calzaghe some problems, but I don't think Calzaghe would hold back for 11 rds like Danny Green did in Beywe-Green II. Of course he's not the same guy as he was once, but he has a lot of veteran moves that make him look good.

Beyer wouldnt beat Calzaghe no way...Not even interested in that fight.

Kessler yes. (would be interested that is).
