You obviously have the wrong approach to the black stuff. It's not designed for binge drinking, it should be savoured at a leisurely pace, allow time to appreciate the richness of flavour.
When you really want to hit the booze, Foster's or Carling are easier on the body and it's processes when consumed in large quantities.

I can understand your concern about getting fat, but i think it's safe to say that most alchoholic refreshments will do that to you

Bournemouth is indeed a great place. There's a lot of students, which can be a pain in the arse, but it also goes a long way towards place so lively. Fit women, and you can walk anywhere in the town centre at any time of night and feel perfectly fine. My friends used to worry about me living in Boscombe, but when you've grown up in Plymouth the idea that Boscombe is 'rough' is laughable. Yes, it's full of skagheads, but they're a better class of skagheads, if youi know what I mean...

I'm from Plymouth, and I love it. Not many people do, including a lot of people that come from Plymouth. For me, it's crapness is part of it's charm. It's full of small-town types and over-aggressive wankers, but it's also home to some good nightlife, cracking scenery, plenty of history and really good punk, dance, hip hop and art scenes. You have to go looking for stuff rather than have it delivered on a plate, like in some bigger cities, but that's another thing I like about it. Add in the fact that there are still areas with a proper community feel to them, and the coats and moor in close proximity, and it definately has it's appeal, even if you have to sort through a lot of shite to find it!

The missus is from Brum, and I've enjoyed my visits there, although I've never spent more than a week. Still, I like the fact that bits of it can be achingly cool, while bits just next door can be a bit crap and scruffy (apparently other bits are dangerously pshycotic, but I've been there, so I don't know). The rag market just next to the new Bull Ring is a good example. I think I like it because, while I'm a scruffy pudendum, I'm also achingly cool...

With regard to the original question, it's different strokes for different folks. I like rural Lancashire. Can't think why.


However, I'm now at an age when a lot of my mates are moving out of town or getting serious about property and I'm ruddy sick of hearing how the main selling point of their new place is that it's 'easy to get to xyz'. If xyz is that great, move there. The best feature of your home town shouldn't be how easy it is to leave. Unless your home town is Cannock.

I've lived just outside Middlesbrough, Scarborough, Birmingham, Manchester, Aberdeen and Exeter.

Manchester's good - I lived in Cheadle Hulme when I lived there, and I was in Brum through the 1990s and liked it. Can't say I'm arsed about Devon really, but if I was had a wife and kids I might think differently.

Preferred living in Holland to the UK as it happens.

I've been living in Brisbane for the last 15 months and although generally speaking the locals seem pretty nice, they just aren't quite what I'm used to. I actually cant wait to get back to England! Never thought I'd say that!

Went to Dublin for the Rugby, cannot say I was impressed. I assume it is because of the smoking ban, but the pubs were cleaner than the town which was I found quite dirty (compared to Cardiff) - Although it was only a weekend and surely not the best time to judge it - so sorry to Dublin Folk.

If you were there for the recent Ireland-Wales 6 Nations game at Lansdowne the city would have been f*cked. That same day they tried to have an Orange Order parade through Dublin city centre to the Dill. Amazingly , and I'm being very sarcastic here, that turned out to be a bad idea and the Catholic natives took exception to it and all hell broke loose. So probably not the best time to visit.

Come to Glasgow. We have everything..........organised crime, race murders, sectarianism, bigotry, the Old Firm, rain, shit hot pubs, a diverse music scene, low unemployment, lovely leafy suburbs, excellent Uni's, 3 huge football stadiums, youths drinking bottles of Buckfast and White Lightning to 2am in the morning unsupervised on every Urban street corner and the honour of being the heroin capital of Europe and last year we got the 'Murder capital of Western Europe' and 'Most violent Industrialised City in the world' titles. Makes one proud and brings a tear to the eye almost.

One of the tattoos wished me “good luck” and another one across the room chimed in “yeah, good luck mate”. The landlady came in with my breakfast and then she wished me good luck as well. I was starting to get a bit disconcerted when one of the smaller, dirtier tracksuits piped up “what are you up for”. It turned out I had booked myself into a bail hostel for the night and they all thought I was up before the judge.

I like Leeds - although some of the surrounding areas are shitholes

Manchester - horrible place
Sheffield - very good, student mates down there good craic
Newton Abbot - lovely, nice racecourse relaxing

Cant get away with London - too unfriendly for me although at least they have heard of the word TOLERANCE which is in short supply in Geordieland!!

I'd take Oz land over UK everyday of the week. I haven't seen the sun for 7 months!!!

I didn't like Australia much to be honest. The climate is wonderful, beautiful scenery, but not enough variety in the culture, and sad to say there was a seemingly endemic xenophobia and racism running through the cutlture, even in the big cities. I'm not saying all australians are racist bigots, but there's a high proportion who seem to be.

That's not to say I didn't meet any Australians I liked, because I did, but I though the country as a whole was like Essex with a really nice climate. Really liked bits of it, Ayrlie Beach, Byron Bay, Cairns (margate with nice weather), but thought Sydney was crap, so tiny with massive suburbs and so little variety. Was told I should have gone to Melbourne, but never made it that far.

Yes, saw all that - I fancied a sparring session. As a country bumpking my mouth was touching the floor, I haven't seen so many riot fans and police. It was a laugh though.

As a non-smoker, I just found the place quite smoggy (this was away from the riots) - we all put it down to the smoking ban (which was being treated by the locals with great respect). As I said, the pubs seemed to have cleaner air than the town.

Good laugh I had though, nearly had a fight with a 50+ guy who looked like a cross between George Calloway and Basil Fawlty. Think he was a bit offended when me and my friend were cracking on to his wife (who was 21 years older than us).

The fact I was saying "now is it my turn to be the pussy" to him all the time, probably made the situation a bit worse. He soon got pissed (instead of pissed off) and in the end was loving being called Basil.

Maybe Steriotyping a bit here but I found another downside is alot of peoples attitude down there and I missed Liverpool even though I was only there for a day.

I was born, bred and live in London. I love London, particularly West London.

I have been going up to Glasgow, for various reasons since 1992.

The place is fantastic and the people are great.

You can keep your Manchesters, Leeds and Newcastles.

Glasgow is miles better than the lot of em.

True, but the sad thing is the people in London with "attitude" are, in my experience not Londoners.

Too many Mancs in London who think their shit dont stink. Other than that London is terrific.
