This guy doesn't come close to be being in the same league as Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Lewis or Holyfield.
Look at the guys Tyson fought! How many Ken Norton's and Joe Frazier's are on his record? Guys like Pinklon Thomas, Tyrell Biggs and Tony Tubbs wouldn't even be outstanding in todays HW division. It says so much about Tyson that his best win (whilst in his 'prime') came against Donovan Ruddock.
Err, I think you meant
LOUIS buddy.
No, I did mean Lewis. The names Tyson and Louis don't belong in the same post.

Still I would love to get fifth place this year and win the CL.
I'd be glad to play the extra games just to piss the spuds off.

Ok Taki, nice one. Slightly owned there
I would disagree though, my point is you gotta let people do some comparison. Head to head, I still say Tyson has a right to be compared to anyone. Surely, you have to admit that Louis v Prime Tyson would not be one sided?
Anyway, on a minor point, I think Pinky, Berbick, Tucker and co would hold their own with todays top heavies.

Tyson has a chance with anyone because he has a KO punch. But the better fighters would tie him up and keep away until he was ready to be taken like Lewis did.

I
CANNOT believe i'm debating on a Tyson thread, but hey, I guess we all gotta do it sometime.
Anyway, I don't think it's fair to use the Lewis fight as a yardstick. I think your basic point is correct, and I can't see Tyson beating any of his predeccessors, but I think Tyson in his prime would be much trickier and competitive than the Lewis fight suggests.

Definately. As I said I don't rate Tyson as one of the best and I think some people over rate him but he would stand up in most era's because he did have great physical attributes. The Lewis fight was just an example of how to beat Tyson.

Guys like James Smith and Tony Tucker showed Tyson's limitations against big tall guys. If either had a workrate slightly higher than that of a corpse Tyson might not have built up such an overblown reputation early in his career.

Thats one way of looking at it. On the other hand, maybe those guys were too cautious for a reason.....
.......these Tyson threads are invincible. They just don't die.

Could we say they are impregnable or impetuous?

Smith was being outboxed by the stiffest least natural HW ever to be champion (Bruno) until Frank's glass jaw was exposed, again.
If Smith had any kind of workrate he would have given Tyson a whole lot of trouble. Holyfield showed exactly what happens when a HW with plenty of ability and no fear steps in with 'Iron' Mike.

And Lewis....no intimidation at all.

You forgot 'The Huricane' . He really took it to Mike's ass in a hurry. Mike stole his style from the Irish wonder that is........... Peter Mcneely.

No. Holyfield and Lewis showed what happens when a HW with ability and no fear steps in with the shell of 'Iron' Mike.

Not a very hard thing to have done at the stage Tyson was at in his career.
Personally - if they would have fought back in the early 1990's before Tyson's incarceration - I think Lewis would have gone the same way that Razor Rudduck did back in those days (meaning either a UD or TKO at some point).
Lennox Lewis is a far superior fighter to Ruddock.
Donovan Ruddock was the most overrated heavyweight of the 1990's.
Just becaue he went 19 rounds the one dimensional, overrated 1991 version of Mike Tyson, loads of people go overboard about him.
Ruddock was one dimensional, with less than average stamina & a chocolate pudding chin.
Lewis' 2 round demolition of him in 1992, just about sums him up.

Holyfield and Lewis would've beaten ANY version of Mike Tyson. The key thing to keep in mind when considering this is that Evander Holyfield ISN'T Michael Spinks and Lennox Lewis ISN'T Tony Tucker.

just remember, Holyfield kicked Tyson's ass after he(holyfield) had already been in 3 damaging wars with bowe, a war with bert cooper, michael moorer, and dwight qawi. yet he still had enough to take tysons best stuff. it all goes to show, that whenever tyson had someone he couldn't blow over, he would los the stomach to fight. prime ali, prime tyson, ali victory inside 10 rounds
