It would look a little murky if it was the promoter counting out the wages onto the judge's hands at the end of the night wouldnt it!!

Interesting topic, so what sort of price/percentage are we looking at for sanctioning fees then? I mean these rag bag organisations must make money somewhere to keep going and even employing people/sending them to events etc

So if you stage a WBU/IBA/WBS event you pay a certain amount to some fella who made up his own organisation because he has access to the internet and once watched a Tyson fight.

That was a fight on prime time TV, don't know what the terms of the contract with ITV are, but you'd think it would be worth enough for a decent payday for the fighters involved.

i would have guessed somewhere between 50k and 100k...

perhaps more interesting is how much guys like dean powell get out "brokering" deals.....

It all depends on your promoter and/or manager.

Some of the figures being quoted are actually higher than i expected to be hearing.

but the Haye figure i heard from 2 seperate sources, one a promoter/matchmaker and the other a top pro... i heard a 100k for thompson fight and the same for his most recent defence of the EBU...(obviously less for his non championsip fights)

Seems a lot but you would assume as a free agent and EBU champ he could broker a good deal?!?!?!

just out of interest hichael holden ended up with less than 5K when he beat julius on points for the british title in 2000.

i saw a fornicating huge BLING BLING range rover a few months ago... dark windows but it was defo a light skinned afro man driving... number plate H4YE U...... dunno whether it was David for sure... but i reckon it was... those rides arent cheap

The highest purse Joe Calzaghe, the best british boxer, got (before the Lacy-fight) was in the Veit-fight, 1.x milions.

A little bird at ringside told me at the Maloney card last week, that Haye did very well from signing on fees in his career.

Boxingchat, when you are getting paid by the public (through ticket sales/PPV/ TV licence) to perform a sport ie football, rugby. generally everybody knows your salary.
In the USA and Germany most boxers purses are common knowledge, you can find them published on fightnews etc...

It only seems to be in the UK where its still all very hush hush.... this leads to suspicion all round and rightly so sometimes...

If some of those russian kids knew how much your boss was paying the belgian geezer and then saw how much they actually got themselves.. it would have been easy for them to work out how much deductions were taken by middle men.... and they wouldnt be happy campers.

Yes I must say the UK does seem to lag behind in the announement of fight purses, though of course I would take the figures announced on fightnews with a pinch of salt, as I'm sure there are plenty of deductions and additional clauses in contracts which are not mentioned.

Often the figures quoted will be dependent on shares of PPV money etc, so it's not all black and white, but generally in the UK purses are not announced at all. Maybe there are differing requirements with regards to BBBofC.

Surely the BBBofC must have some record of contracts and purses? Whether they would release that information is another matter entirely.
