The old pair are from that neck of the woods so I followed his career from the amateur days through to that terrible Rees fight. Bags full of talent and potential and hell of a nice guy to boot but forever reason it never can off for him in the pro ranks. At the end of the day Brian Peters had him in against bums far to often, Andrew has such a padded record and apart from Fagan, McDonagh fought no one of real note. I doubt he'll ever achieve anything of great note, such a shame really.
With Brian Peters not hosting shows in Ireland I don't know whose cards he would get on? He's not that exciting that would pull in the viewers. I suppose he was too much a home bird based in Cavan when a move across the sea would have done him no harm. Even to Manchester and get home every other weekend....
Your man Slap on here never liked him, which is a shame given that he does great work promoting Irish fighters on here and else where

Thats not fair mate. I always liked him. He is one of the nicest guys in boxing. I just never thought he would have the toughness to rise above a certain level.
I guess I was proven right in the end, Rees was there for the taking. Hanging on by a thread for the last couple of rounds.
Hope he is doing alright. I know he loves his golf and has a decent job as a sales rep in his local area so I'm sure he is happy and doing fine.

It's amazing to read James McDonnell's original post on this thread and then see the fella spend 24 fights grinding out points wins over nobodies and then lose when he stepped up.
