I had Green because of the early knockout, sometimes it has to do with not only the caliber of opposition but with the way the opposition is beaten. Plus I thought Green was a very underrated fighter, he put a prime Muguibi through a war before going down to defeat. Also I think you have to look at his caliber of opposition rather than his record alone. He opted to take a tough road rather than stick with easy opponents. Don't get me wrong I am not saying he's great, just a bit underrated.

But it wasn't an early ko in reality, Green turned away after catching a thumb in the eye and the ref stopped the fight... till then nothing much had happened...

I always liked James "Hard Rock" Green, but he should have been called James "Hard Luck" Green. He was on the verge of a 4th round stoppage against an undefeated John Mugabi, when the Beast was saved by the bell. Later the bout was stopped prematurely in the final round when Mugabi was in control. Then Green had Frank Fletcher out on his feet when the Animal get's saved by the bell. A couple rounds later Green had an eye problem and the fight was stopped with him being hammered on the ropes. And finally, he get's thumbed in the eye against Donald Curry.

Poor recollection on my part. You could then replace Green with Nino Laroca. When it came to Curry's best fights I would stick with one pre Honeygen

As far as Curry being great he was close but maybe fell a couple of fights short. He had a great first half of his career, but the second half of his career sort of mirrored Frank Bruno's.

I thought the stoppage was premature and the ref should of given Shavers a chance to continue, Quarry got him with a few left hooks but missed the majority of his punches and only because Quarry was swarming Shavers throwing and missing....Earnie had to go down just to get Quarry of his back. I've seen the fight a few times, they might still have it on the Quarry memorial site. Jerry just jumped all over Shavers when the bell rang, dropped him once, and was all over him again when he got up, and shortly after the ref stopped it.

Im not sure either why there was no rematch. When Shavers went down as I said he went down to get Quarry of him. But when he got up Shavers just simply covered up and Quary was again swarming him. But I thought the ref stopped it way too soon but Shavers should also went out of his shell and fight back to give the impression he was OK, and I believe Shavers was able to continue.

Yes, there was no reason for that fight to continue, or for a rematch. As I recall there were no complaints from Shavers, and this fight got a great deal of coverage here in NE Ohio because Shavers was our guy. He simply got beat.

I agree. Ive watched the fight many times; the stoppage seems justified to me.

I'll do my favourite Lewis because I never missed any of his fights:

Also Rahman II and the way he dispatched Derek "Sweet D" Williams was very funny!

I would definitely put Rahman II in the top5, if not at number 1. I would also have Lewis-Morrison in the top5, even though Tommy clearly had no idea how to fight Lewis. I'd probably take out Golota (just got overwhelmed and blown away, much like against Brewster), and Grant (just Lewis teeing off against a guy with a poor chin, Lewis also took some punches he shouldn't have in this fight).

The reason I had Golota and Grant was the hype the fighters got because the Lewis haters were just willing anyone to beat him and he just destroyed these two. I agree about Rahman though and to be honest I didn't really like the Morrison fight.

Max Baer fought scared and with swollen hands - not sure the fight should be ranked that highly. Baer offered too little resistance.
