The reason Ali went....or should i say had to go toe to toe was because he was forced into it...if the Ali that fought big George was the Ali that fought Liston...he would of danced all night i have no doubt
I dont think Ali wanted to be on those ropes with George raining on him...

i agree...PBF is clearly trying to get inside ricky's head, the same way he did with chico corrales & arturo gatti!! i dont think he expects to intimidate hatton, but if he can make him angry enuf, he MAY be able to pull hatton away from his game plan, which is basically what he did with corrales (like what b-hop did with trinidad)...

Reading in between the lines, for PBF to behave like that off camera especially when Hatton was being very polite towards him shows me that PBF is very afraid of Hatton.

They'll be making £millions , both should remain professionals out of the ring!

All the Rugby lads rushed him, but as they tried to get across the barrier he just kept on punching them as they came into range, it was like one of those duck hunts at the fair. I don't think one of them got a shot in.

Knockout, did you see the incident I'm on about? I think the guy was thrown out of the uni the next week.

As for Hatton v Mayweather, of course it's all speculation of course, but in a down and dirty fight, which would probably end on the floor (see Tyson and Lewis for an example, or Hide v Bennt) you'd have to fancy the stockier man.

As for Ali going toe-to-toe with Foreman, that's cobblers, he lay on the ropes getting whacked in the guts for round after round and waiting until Foreman tired. That's not the same as standing there slugging away, and if he had, he would have been battered. Ali always fought off the back foot against big strong men like that until they slowed and he could let his shots go.

One of my mates used to be pretty good at judo and I myself boxed. I'm telling you if you don't KO someone like that quick and let them get a grip of anything on your body you're f**ked! He was about 10 stone and about 5'8 and he used to get guys 16 stone and 6'2 plus on the floor.

As for Hatton/Maywether, I think Hatton wins inside and outside the ring. All the yanks are going on about how good he is but when he stops running I'll put money on Hatton beating him.

I think inside the ring this is a very hard one for Hatton. He will need to demonstrate a level of skills on the inside that we haven't seen from him yet.

When Duran beat Leonard, he was able to do so because he was able to make him stand and trade for long periods, even then Leonard had more than a few moments, and that was also because he got inside Leonard's head bigtime. I don't think Hatton is anywhere near as good as Duran in terms of skill, he relies on physical strength a lot more than Duran, and doesn't have anything like as good a defence.

Same as a semi-pro footballer I'd expect - ie a guy that gets paid to compete and trains reasonably seriously, but who does something else during the week to put food on the table.

Gets hazier with boxing, I'll admit. With football if you go pro, you're in training every morning and the odd afternoon, with a game or two a week. After you've been to the bookies and given it the big I Am around town, there's not much time for a 12 hour shift down the pit. Guys like Krence must be earning half reasonable money for their fights, but if they only fight every 2 or 3 months they need another income. Scott Dann was still doing a bit of painting & decorating between fights until not long ago. May well still be for all I know!

It's guys like Keith Jones that amaze me - factory shift in the mornings, gym in the evenings, and 100 fights all around the country. You have to have huge respect for those guys.
