RICO? I thought that was a racketeering cause? Yes, it does seem extremely unlikely that the WBA are going to sanction this bout given the risks involved, it must be said.
I guess it's a WBU fight then, and to be fair, under SN, his WBU bouts were advertised as 'world title fights' were they not?

Isnt WBU fights illegal in the US because they dont follow the MA act?

Puerto Rico is part of the United States you are correct too but the part of the map they have used does not include PR. In addition, PR has it's own recognized flag. Collazo is billed from NY, which was my point and although that is where he settled to undertake his career he is very much a proud Puerto Rican.
However, the main point is, the WBA have not and probably will not and legally cannot sanction this a a world title so why is it being billed as such.
Don't take your eye of the ball James.

Off topic question. Why can Puerto Rico compete in the olympics? You have to be a UN member to participate in olympics (Greenland and the Faroe Island have applied to be separate nations at the olympics but got turned down because they are not UN members)
I don't asctually think, although I stand to be corrected, that PR is a American state. I belive that it is a separate country who are independent but requested to be governed by the US for economical reasons. There is a big US army base on PR and they do use the US Dollar.
Puerto Rico actually means 'Port of the Rich' as the merchant ships stopped there before making the final journey to the US mainland and vice versa to the Carribean.
For tourists, I can recommend the Wyndham El San Juan, fantastic 5*hotel!

Before you wrote it I actually thourght Puerto Rico was a sovereign nation since I knew they participate in the olympics. I checked CIA factbook, and there they dont mention UN under International organization participation.

Back to Boxing matters. How can it be for the WBU title. Magee holds the 147 lbs title and Hatton the 140 lbs title which if he hadn't paid £5k he would have been stripped of for not defending for a year. Ray Olivera was his last December 2004.
The WBU can operate in the US. Mucking about with rankings and changing rules for favour does come under the RICO laws. The IBF got done under RICO remember. Tnbe WBA have already been warned by the judge in the Mbaye case that they may face further charges under RICO laws too.
I bet the IBO Welterweight title mysteriously relieved from the Nottingham cabbie is considered. If it is look for writs hitting Sky from Kelly and Khaliq soem time soon.
The plot thickens.
Oh for the days when he used to just go into the cirty centre, fight, get paid and go to didgy shirt parties!
All this stress will be his downfall, wait and see.

Mayweather just won that delightful bit of plastic.

Veering back off-topic, that is the union flag (or a fair representation of it). I can see the crosses of St Andrew and St Patrick (red & white diagonally bits) sticking out. Dunno if they've bothered to get the cross of St Andrew above the cross of St Patrick, but hey. And the border looks reasonable enough too - it starts at Solway Firth and goes up to around Berwick, which are the important bits. Why they chose the union jack when they're just showing England is another matter, but I was once asked by a septic if Wales was a city in England, so geography can't be a strong point of their schooling.
Puerto Rico, as every schoolboy who's ever read the CIA World Fact Book knows, has been owned by the States for years, and allowed self-governance some time after WWII. They're counted as US citizens (definately), but can only vote for their governer, not the president (I think). I'm guessing they can't compete in the Olympics for the same reason England, Wales etc can't - they're citizens of another country (US for Purto Ricans, UK for the home nations). That's probably wrong, though.

Ah, I misread you post then - thought you were asking why they couldn't. No idea then. Because the US is bigger and harder than any other nation, and will pout if they don't let PR in?

i've always wondered right from the word go if they'd sanction it or not. a few weeks back i read some articles about king paying off urkal, but obviously that's since been shot down in flames.
personally i couldn't care less if the wba title is on the line. hatton will have to fight urkal to keep the thing and no one wants to see that fight.
plus carlos quintana is fighting a wba eliminator at welterweight and he's a tricky little bastard.

Exactly the point. He bangs on about only wanting big names and that being the reason he didn't want Mbaye and then moves up a weight where the same situation is there and he accepts it. Why didn't he just fight Mbaye, Rabbah and whoever and move to the big fights. He has used his
issued with Warren to back himself into a corner where surely the biggest thing would have been to fight and bash up Mbaye and then tell Warren to FO. However, he has self-destructed through stupidity. He would have got untold favours from the WBA if he could have fought Mbaye and saved them alot of grief. Now they must rue the day they heard the name Hatton.
Personally, like witter I don't think they fancied Mbaye who can fight a bit and would beat Witter IMO.

Hatton is after Mayweather, so the move to 147 belt or not is a good one. Mayweather v Hatton is the biggest fight out there at 147 without any shadow of a doubt.

I'm not too sure that Ricky actually designed this poster Mr Chat. I'm sure the fans won't hold him personally responsible.
calzaghe bangs on about being welsh,
harrison bangs on about being scottish,
and ireland aint even a part of britain!!

Hot stuff. Yes, Wayne McCullough, who travelled to Boston nine years ago and had his jaw busted by Daniel Zaragoza (a southpaw like Collazo) in a challenge for the WBC super-bantamweight title.
McCullough, now 35, challenges for the same title in the summer against Israel Vazquez.
Well done Lenny and Coconut.
OK: can anyone name the last MANCHESTER fighter to MOVE UP in weight and challenge for a world title in the States?

boxingchat wrote:They have never changed their mind. The fact was there from day one, King and Collazo have an obligation to defend against Urkal who will not go away. The WBA are under a court order regarding Hatton and cannot sanction ANY fight involving him. These are matters of record and therefore from day one they have been BS'ing everyone. Don KIng knows the score and Pellulo has been aware of this for ages but both have led the nieve brits up the garden path to the point of no return. Brilliant, hillarious!
This means that Ricky will go over there, get fucked by the Tax man, fucked by King and Pellullo and lose both his 140 lb titles. In addition, Sky will pay him less and he will woin nothing for beating Collazo who even if he loses will still be WBA Champion as the WBA have not sanctione dthe bout thereofre he has not lost it under their specific rules.
All in all, Fight Academy have been royaly screwed and in turn so has the
Hatton tribe, which ain't a bad thing.
Still at least the £5k cheque for the WBU will protect his status!
you give the impression that you know what is going on but time and time again you demonstrate that you pick up very little when you are polishing Frank's car.
Ricky's money is guaranteed so how can he get screwed?
King is contracted to deliver the WBA title, so who is screwing who?
I am still waiting for you to tell us when Ricky paid the 5k to the WBU.
How much do you think HBO would pay for a Mbaye fight?
If you spent as much time on your own fighters as you do attacking the Hatton's then maybe Joe could be earning similar money.
Surely it is time you got a life?

well, the poster isn't as bad as Calzaghe saying "i hope England lose" all those years ago. how tactful is that for the english? yet plenty of us pommie twits stayed up to watch him vs lacy/helped fill up the MEN (years later)
not that i care as my idea of britishness doesn't go much further than having a kebab on a sat night in donny (when chris byrd's not fighting, lol) or drinking a cup of tea, but it's worth pointing out anyhow
scots, welsh and irish regularly have anti english feelings, from my experience. not profound, but i;d say pretty pronounced. i'm not applying this to everyone btw
seems like the word england is nearly outlawed, the english flag is almost fucki_g illegal

I'm Scottish and a Hatton fan, and couldn't give a fornicate about Scotland not being on the poster the guy is English after all.
I Must say though in England when a scot or welsh Athlete perform's well the media lable them British ie: Calzaghe, Harrison, Jim Clark, Jim Watt... and when an english Athlete is doing well they are just plain old English just a small grumble
