My old man's just watch it and was impressed with DLH's body punching - something that I didn't notice on first viewing. Will have to see for myself.

Just watched it.

Oscar boxed great against a man who has no business in a world championship ring.

Oscar got hit with some BIG shots also, and if he fought Floyd he would be an easy target imo.

However, he'd had a 20 month layoff, so I guess he can be let off a bit.

Hokum, Oscar will fight Floyd, not Hatton, why would he bother with Hatton when a fight with Floyd is much much bigger?

I'm pretty impressed by this result, not seen the fight as yet as I still don't have sky at my new house, didn't expect this from Oscar at this stage of his career, showed he still has fire in his belly.

To be fair, those things were being said about Mayorga before the match - the big imponderable was exactly what DLH had left, and he did show that he does have something. But Mayorga was really not very good, and to be fair has never really impressed. Great chin, great act, but not a boxer you'd want to learn anything from. If DLH hadn't picked him apart that would have been worse.

That said, fair play to the lad for such a clinical job and for putting Mayorga in such consistent trouble.

But Mayorga should never be seen as a gateway to Mayweather. Chalk and cheese were never more dissimilar. There's also the Mayweather snr issue.

I don't think DLH wants anything to do with the kind of pace Hatton could set.

Yes, let's not get carried away, Mayorga was chosen because he has no defence and little movement, and wasn't likely to give Oscar big problems unless DLH was shot to shit. It's still an impressive performance, but the flight served it's purpose to flatter DLH and build towards a fight with Mayweather, which is an entirely different proposition.

Oscar was impressive, very sharp, strong-looking. I'm not convinced he's the #1 light middle. Karmazin's #1.

Mayorga was not only made to order, he's looked beatable ever since Spinks edged him. And he was already battered to pieces by Trinidad, which can't have done muh for him and explains why DLH chose Mayorga.

I mean most of DLH's top opponents weren't taken until they'd looked beatable. Mosley (vs Riveira and then Raul Marquez), Quartey (vs JL Lopez), Vargas (hammered by Trinidad), Chavez, Whitaker (had slowed down and had to do a come from behind KO of Hurtado)

sure most of those fighters were still very good and it's wise career choice-making

Current world champion means nothing when you win your belt against the Likes of Picorillo.

Didn't Picorillo beat Spinks the first time though?

Haven't seen the fight but have heard Spinks should have def got the verdict in that fight.

Also I think Piccirillo has slipped a fair bit since then

yes, but i rememebr boxing monthly saying what a terrible disappointment cory was in that first fight

I heard Spinks was robbed in the first Piccirillo fight but who knows, Mickey Vann claims in his autobiography that the Italian is one of the best world title operators he has refereed for, high praise indeed. He was certainly faded versus Mayorga though and it showed, he only went for the payday, couldn't have seen him leaving Italy in his prime.

Further research shows Piccirillo twice went to America for fights with Ortiz and Pineda (Eliminator) and to Denmark in 96 to fight Sondergaard so my last post was a load of bullshit
