I agree...that's one book that is long overdue. There are a few other bio's that should be coming out during the next year, or two that I have greatly anticipating.

Which book is it? Gilbert Odd is one of my favorite boxing writers of all time.

I've always been fascinated by Siki... Berlanbach said he was the bravest fighter he ever fought according to one article I read. Just wish it would come out!. The Odd book Greb is talking about is 'Ring Battles of the Century' which I reccommended to him. One of my first and favourite boxing books. What upcoming Bios do you know about?.

I'm eventually going to break down and purchase that book by Odd. Right now all I have by him is Boxing: The Great Champions and The Encyclopedia of Boxing, the last of which I would greatly recommend to anyone, but I have been intending on getting Ring Battles of the Century for a while now, I just haven't yet.

There are two new books that I am really looking forward to one written about Sam Langford and the other about Peter Maher, but neither have found a publisher yet, or at least I don't think they have, but they writers of each I know have done a tremendous amount of research and both books will be very, very insightful.

There will be a new bio on John L. Sullivan out before too long though I do not know much about it other than that it was very well researched and then the one on Harry Greb.

Kevin Smith's second volume on early African-American boxers will be out sometime as well and that book is one that I am greatly looking forward to. I'm pretty certain that Barry Hugman will have a book about Boxing's World Champions a history of world titles, which as with any book by Hugman, it will be a must have. There are a few more, but I cannot think of them right off hand.

The Maher and Langford books sound very interesting... I'm surprised noones ever got round to writing Biographies on either Bobby Chacon or Saad Muhammad... both have lived such extraordinary lives.
I have that Encyclopedia book by Odd, great stuff in there... I'd also reccomend 'Was the Referee right' and 'Debatable Decisions' by him as well.

Also, Odd's bio of Bob Fitzsimmons is supposed to be one of the better bio's on Fitz around.

Yes the Fitz book is good, I lent it to someone and never got it back unfortunately... he wrote a bio on Len Harvey too which is very good....

SILKOV the gilbert odd book cost £8 and no it does not have dust jacket but the hand written inscription on the inside cover is very sweet as it comes from a year after publication and is a lovely dedication from a sister to a clearly much loved brother. i have read the bulk of the book already and you are right it is excellent, a true boxing classic.

i never, never, never, never, ever, (...well, hardly ever and not any more) lend books. no no no no no

people rarely give 'em back even when they heartily promise to do so

£8 is a good price, it is a great book, I got mine when a family friend gave it to me when I was about 12 after he heard I liked boxing, and though I've got hundereds of boxing bookx since this is still one of my favourites... you can read it over and over again...

hehehe!... alas, (for you friend!) my days of book lending are over... recently when a friend of mine was interested in a novel I'd just read, I went and brought him a copy 8) rather than lend him my copy ... I thought I'd probably never get my copy back :x so I may as well cut out the middle man a buy him it to start with! 8) 8) .
I've even had people emigrate on me after lending them my books in the past!!...
