Castillo by brutal knockout within five rounds.

I think Corralles only chance really is to try and hurt Castillo and force him back with sheer volume of punches... he actually did well on the inside in their first fight... if he can do that again and wear Castillo down thats about the best chance he's got...

I picked Castillo in the first 2 fights, and I'm not changing my pick now. Castillo inside 8.

I'm not suggesting he tries to turn himself into Willie Pepp, because obviously Castillo is much more of a pressure fighter than Cassamayor.
I couldn't believe the way Corrales fought both of these fights. Quite simply hes fought both fights STUPID. If he used his jab - which I didn't see thrown in either of these supposed fights of the century, and straight right and keep his defense tight he could beat Castillo without too many problems at all. I'm not saying he shouldn't throw hooks but throw them off long straights once you've began to back the smaller fighter up. Corrales instead decides to keep it real, Real Dum!

I do hope Corrales batters the cheating Mexican though its just frustrating seeing him not use his attributes

Corralles has fought the right fight... he knows Castillo is too strong to outbox, Corrales has never been a Mayweather... his best bet is to get Castillo on the back foot.... he was definately fighting to a game plan in their first fight....

The best way to beat a come forward pressure fighter is to throw the jab and straight right, and only shoot the hooks in when they get close. Corralles has the jab for the job, and also has a big reach and height advantage. Using the jab doesn't mean you have to shoeshine. Doesn't matter how strong Castillo is, if he keeps walking into Corralles' shots, he's going to get hurt, Corralles is a murderous puncher, thought the straight right isn't his best shot.

If I was a trainer (which I obviously am not), I would be working hard on the jab/straight right, followed by a step to the left side and the left hook to the body then upstairs as Castillo tries to close with the left hook.

Corralles is playing into Castillo's hands by standing and trading though. He has the arsenal to hurt him on the way in, and then unload when he gets close before stepping off. Coralles has good boxing skills when he uses them, he needs something like the 'power boxing' used by the Mosleys. Fire off long hurtful shots when your opponent tries to get close, hurt him on the inside with uppercuts and hooks, and then get back out of range to repeat the plan. I think this is more likely to be effective than standing trading with Castillo, and getting KTFO in 3 rounds.

Corrales should do well for the first few rounds, keeping good range with jab, straight right. Then Castillo will up the tempo, Corrales will be a sitting duck.

I hope I'm wrong.

If Castillo has been good with his preperation than I reckon a comfortabe victory for Castillo.

Corrales has a very nice fluid style, but I think he is on the wane. His heart and his head might want to carry on, but his legs wont.

On saying that, I think we have seen the best of Castillo too - They are both shopworn.

Still, I'm going for a tko for Castillo.

On a side note, I see Castillo has been pencilled in to fight Cotto in November - That takes a Hatton fight out of the equation.

I really cannot see Castillo being beaten here. I believe he should never have been stopped in the first fight. The second fight was a walk in the park for him and i believe the third fight will go the same way, a comfortable Castillo win by KO in the middle rounds.

I cannot understand why anyone would back Coralles to win this fight.

i see corrales getting ground down late. not sure how much of an assault castillo can try early. imo his steady pressure and sharp nasty hooks/uppercuts/right hands with slowly chop up corrales

Personally I thought that Casamayor - in rocking Castillo in the final round of their when he stood and traded - showed how to beat Castillo and Corrales underlined it in his own way. Fight II made me think again but Castillo did get off the rack weight wise for that one.

I see the trilogy so far as a macrocosm of fight I with Corrales taking the play from Castillo early with his brain and balls and Castillo then breaking through with his left hook (fight II). On that reckoning I see fight III as the moment in fight I when Diego got off the floor to spank Castillo senseless. So in other words I'm going for Diego, who I love as a fighter, to win by late TKO. Box early, see how Castillo is at the weight, maybe get put down but get back and then take Castillo out.

Whoever wins we, the fans, have been the overall winners from this.
corrales set the groundwork for cheating. he blatantly cheated too - he was knocked out just about. if he'd have not had any extra time he would've been a dead man. imo he deserved everything that happened in that 2nd fight. i hope it doesn't result in a dirty rubber match.

funny thing is with these two, is that corrales does some very good inside work and castillo - in the 2nd - was able to hurt corrales with lead left hooks/right hands from further back; punches that chico didn't see coming. castillo could well be weak at the weight, and corrales looks bad. every pic i've seen since the 2nd fight he's looked drawn, tired, weak, beaten up.
C'mon Maussa, are you trying to tell me that in sparring you haven't touched down or been in trouble and taken a knee or tied your guy up to clear your head? Or are you saying that after some hard, brutal rounds a fighter who is floored heavily immediately thinks: "Must spit that shield?" It was a reaction thing whereas Castillo had weeks and weeks to plan his infringment and even tried to cover it via getting osmeone to fiddle the scales, it was a disgusting incident and only Corrales' class and bravery stopped us the fans missing out on a fight altogether. We've had one Mexican on here saying he agrees with the actions, fair enough but a Mexican fan emailed me after the 2nd fight to say Castillo was a disgrace to Mexican fighters for cheating so blatantly. There is a big difference between going down from a shot and going into survival mode and not showing any inclination to honour the weight limit. Castillo was lucky Corrales had the class to fight him. Also by your logic, Diego cheated in fight 1 and deserved to lose fight 2 for that, shouldn't you be rooting strongly for Diego to avenge the fact Castillo cheated?!

As for the fights themselves Silkov is partially right. If you step off and box Castillo from the get-go he'll build-up steam and hurt you late in the fight. Corrales needs to mix it up early and if he gets through it, hopefuly he'll have taken a lot of Castillo's strength, he can then box late and see how the fight develops. Maybe Diego had a lot taken from him in fight 1 and it showed in fight 2, maybe the fact that a guy who had carved himself down to lightweight was facing a guy who came in as a long-term light-welterweight played a big part. Now in fight 3 Castillo is being forced to abide by the rules and surely will be very weak at the weight.
hey, for all you know i might be a mexican who agrees with his countryman's actions

my view is, corrales started it & i was delighted when he was sent packing. what impressed me with the 2nd fight wasn't castillo's obvious advantage in strength this time, but his versatility. ppl act like he's a face forward slugger but that couldn't be further from the truth

the first fight was an extaordinarily 'intimate' contest, for nine rounds there was total honesty between two guys who leaned on each other and pounded away (urgh, starting to sound like gay porn, unintended). corrales spitting the mouthpiece was a violation of that, and i think it spoiled the contest. too many ppl were smiling at that turnaroud. i found it to be pretty sick and it left a bilious taste in my mouth

i am a blatant castillo fan. have been since i got a copy of the lazcano and johnston 2 fights around the end of '03. so i want him to win fight 3 fair and square. then he can whack out mayweather, hatton, gatti, harris collazo cotto, but NOT margarito

In that case we're 2:1 on the Mexican's but still have a few stylistic things to consider. :box:

Castillo was artificially buoyed for fight II. It was clearly unethical to do what he did no boxer would advocate cheating in this way. Corrales got hurt and spat the shield, it bought him time but where do we go from here? Taking a knee - which incidentlly Castillo lacked the intelligence to do in fight I - becomes punishable? Corrales won fight one fairly in the ring, Castillo was scared he'd lose fight II and cmae in purposefully overweight, maybe he was trying to right a wrong, maybe he knows he is too weak at the weight? If Castillo looks white-lipped at the weigh-in I'll feel comfortable that Corrales can win.

I myself have taken a knee, I'd even spit the shield but I'd never come in over the weight if I was a fighter.

However it goes down it is likely to be fun.
i only hope that the 3rd fight won't a) have any cheating and b) be a bad tempered foul fest. could happen. to me, castillo's the better fighter & i believe he's going to win. corrales would've been Ko'd in the first fight if he didn't have any extra time. i believe he will be Ko'd late this time

you never know, castillo's rib injury might have been genuine, maybe stopped him from being able to train hard enough to make weight. i hope this fight isn't spoiled by the fact that both will be focusing more on making 135 than anything else. i actually think it's dumb that they're fighting at lightweight.

Exactly he doesnt need to get on his tip toes, just jab, jab right, hook to the body, even hold in the inside, Corales is a great inside fighter BUT he has more advantages on the outside against Castillo.

Castillo has shown himself to be the more versatile boxer. Just cos Corrales used his height advantage on a guy he dwarved in Cassamayor II - who still almost beat him - doesn't mean he can box better than Castillo. Castillo can really carve ppl up - in an educated manner. I don't ever see Corrales landing lead left hooks and lead right hands from outside the way Castillo did to Lazcano and Diaz (& Corrales II, and it wasn't the weight that enabled him to do that).

Castillo is going to rip open Corrales this time & prove himself the best l/w since Nazarov.
