Right, got my ton on Ajamu, everyone who's betting on the prince, post here. This is one of those very infrequent 'writing on the wall' fights. I got the same feeling with Jones/Johnson, Jones/Tarver 2 and to a lesser extent Williams/Tyson and Calzaghe/Salem on pts. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong if Jones wins, and I'm not saying anything else to jeapardise this.

I may still have some tasty rounds odds for ajamu, early rounds on Hills from 50/1 to 66/1! Good value there!

I've got £20 on Ajamu on points, been planning to bet on this one since it was announced. Does have a bit of Tyson/Williams feel.

No bets on yet. My gut instinct currently is actually RJJ on points. I just don't know what is going to happen come the first bell. I love the 10/1 Ajamu pts win, but I'm not really sure if Ajamu is that attack-minded to force the pace and win the rounds. I'm edging towards a ko for him if he wins.

I can really sense a win for Ajamu here, and have had a little flutter on an outright win for him. I've also covered the last 4 rounds. (The odds were just too tempting)

You should all take this as a warning to get your house on Jones, given my recent betting history.........

I took the over 10.5 at -130 a few days back on sportsbook, it's now dropped to -155.

I think that is a pretty solid bet.

Ah well... didn't think jones had it in him. When it didn't come up on teletext i knew Jones had won.

It was a good call anyway Riddick. Ajamu was just too defensive. Jones will get smashed by any of the so-called paper champs, unless, and probably the more accurate, he runs frantically around the ring for 12 rounds before complaining he was robbed and that he's not finished yet.

FAR better than I anticipated from Jones, okay Ajamu isn't as good as Johnson and Tarver, but it was nice to see Jones getting off with punches - something he hasn't done in his last 4 performances.

What I cannot understand is since coming back down from Heavyweight there is absolutely no power in his punches. The speed is still good (if not what it was) and he was catching Ajamu clean, but he just cannot keep them away with his shots anymore - this was like vs Tarver in match 1.

He's definately in decline, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him pick up a major title soon. I think he can beat Woods.

Nah Jones looked way too uncomfortable everytime Ajamu got close in, and Ajamu didn't even throw punches inside, nor outside for that matter, he kept smothering himself. Woods would make Roy gunshy and probably KO him late.

Roy against any top LH, I think it would play out similar to Roy/Ajamu round 1.

That was easily the most pathetic undercard I have ever had the misfortune of sitting through.

I think the first time he fought Tarver he was badly weight drained, he looked about 50 that night. The tarver fight robbed him of his confidence. In the 2nd fight with Tarver, he stood and traded with Tarver and was knocked down and stopped whilst winding up with a massive left hook.

I think since then Jones is terrified to sit down on his punches. He used to be able to do so and time it so he would land without being hit, but now he knows he cannot do that, he won't put any sting in his shots. It's not that he can't, he is afraid to.

Jones will look ok against B level fighters like Adjamu, but if he steps it up against Woods, Tarver, Johnson or Hopkins, I think he will either get knocked out, or more likely lose a wide decision whilst avoiding getting knocked out.

There's little point him continuing, because he simply cannot beat any of the top guys out there, or even any of the more aggressive contenders.

Good post, jones looked terrible on the ropes and threw nothing on the backfoot.

I'll agree to disagree with my two fellow Welshmen (assuming Wales is from Wales).

Yeah, he looked awful in the first round - I thought he was going to lose via a KO or landslide decision. But gradually he got more and more confident with his backfoot boxing as the fight progressed - and landed some good body shots and uppercuts as Ajamu was coming in.

Wales, if Roy did NOTHING on the back foot then you must have scored the fight to Ajamu who was the front foot fighter throughout.

What I cannot understand though is the lack of effect his punches have. We know he wasn't a huge puncher at Light Heavy - but I was alarmed at the amound of clean shots that didn't even earn the respect of Ajamu and make him think about not coming in. In most of his prime fights he would land enough good shots to make the guy stop and think - but not in his defeats or vs Ajamu. Mind you, I'm not sure Ajamu has ever tasted the canvas before - so his chin seems excellent.

I think that Jones now is too scared to commit to his punches, and without having any authority on them, is vulnerable to any decent pressure fighter. Johnson beat him by just staying on him, keeping him negative and then unloading on him.

Had he tried that with the pre Ruiz Jones, he would have been getting hurt every time he tried to close.

Roy is gunshy, plain and simple, and that's where his power has gone, to generate power, you need to plant your feet, and since Tarver II, he's been scared to do that.
