Maybe he can go away.

IMO - he is just a cheating ittle pudendum.

He was never going to make the weight.

No big deal to drop 25% of most likely your biggest purse if you do not make weight and that is why the pudendum took the fight in the first place!.

Adios Castillo.

oh right, very likely with the penalties, the fact that corrales' team and wife wouldn't let corrales go through with it again. yes, you really do plan these things.

from Maxboxing (D Fischer & S Kim)

"At the first weigh-in, which took place around 2:45 p.m. Friday, a drained and dry looking Castillo stepped on and off of the scale three times before his final attempt was announced to the gathering of media and fight fans as “140 pounds”. A few minutes later a second attempt was announced as 139 and half pounds.

Castillo’s failure to make the contracted weight of 135 pounds would have cost him dearly had the fight gone on. The Sonora, Mexico native was going to be fined 25% of his near-one million dollar purse, or $225,000, by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and he was also going to be docked $175,000 by Showtime, so nearly half of his $900,000 payday was already spoken for due to his inability to live up to his contractual obligations.

Castillo tried to work off the extra pounds during this time period (2 hours) and did appear to break a sweat according to observers close to the Mexican’s camp, but when he weighed in again around 4:56 p.m. it was announced to the 100 or so curious onlookers that he again tipped the scales at 140 pounds. After a few minutes, Castillo stepped on the scale again and his weight was announced at 139 and a half pounds.

Unlike last October, Castillo really appeared to try and make weight, and his struggle was evident on his sucked in face and strained looking body. Before Castillo stepped on the scale for the first time, he moved around on the stage in the kind of slow and deliberate manner that someone who is about to faint does. It seemed like his every movement pained him, as though he were suffering from server flu symptoms. His claves even began to cramp as he sucked in air and extended his arms over his head while everyone involved in the promotion trained their eyes on the scale."

Not convinced - so - getting $600,000.00 to beat Coralles ( He would have at that weight ) and then give an oscar winning performance on the stage before the weigh-in. Castillo was NEVER going to make weight - he was trying to call Corralles bluff!.

Castillo knew he was way overweight - so why the disgusted look from him on the scale - not as if he weighed in at the hotel as was on weight???

Castillo HOPED Corralle would take the fight.

imo..

i doubt it. not everything's a conspiracy theory. anyhow, we all wanted to see a fight - i've got to stay up for Darchinyan vs a guy who already lost to the WBO flyweight champ Narvaez - ...but at least both guys live to see another day and still have a career. i don't think castillo was sucking his cheeks in, lol. that's only my opinion

for me they should've gone seperate ways and fought each other every other year

With the all the pain they go through to make the weight, whats the points of doing this dehydration to make it then that most boxers do?

It's cheating anyway as they ain't fighting at that weight in the ring.

Whatever way I try to look at this, bad is the only answer my hollow head comes up with.

If Castillio was genuinely trying to make the weight, then really his trainers and himself don't appear to have done very well. If they genuinely thought he could make 135, then to be 4 1/2 out the day before seems pretty poor.

Then there's the possibility that they/he knew he wouldn't make 135, but trained and turned up anyway in the hope that Corralles would once again accept a catch-weight. This, as we have already witnessed, would put Corrales at a disadvantage, having to (you assume) struggle, or at least work his ass off (literally) to amke the weight himself. That leaves him weaker, and obviously the risk of serious damage to Corrales increases. Thankfully Corrales has not decided to take on this again.

Pretty poor either way, particularly for the paying fans. Hatton-Castillio now looks likely I'd have thought. Maybe Corrales could stick at lightweight for another fight, perhaps taking on Freitas or Diaz

I am not at all surprised by this, as I said earlier in the week, the WBC claimed he was 142 a week ago, but sources close to his camp had said that 148 was more realistic, and that was by all liklihood a gross underestimate seeing as he was closer to 150 come the weigh in.

The guy needs to move up in weight, it sounds like his days at 135 are done and dusted. Even 140 isn't going to be easy to make for him.

Feel sorry for the lads that were flying out their for the fight.

IMO he didnt try to make weight, come fight night he weighs the same or less than Corrales so if Corrales can do it so can Castillo. Coming in at 140 really isn't trying, last time it was obvious he wasnt trying and made 137, so 140 means he hasnt tried, maybe he didnt eat the day before the fight but he hasnt been dropping weight as he should

Castillo may not get another big fight below 147, even at 140 hes a liability to coming overweight and have his opponent call the fight off. This has lost allot of people allot of money - TV Companies, promoters, fighters spent money on their training camps, etc etc.

This is all true, but perhaps the rigors he has to go through to make weight are just too much for him to bear. Castillo is a very thickset man, and has fought over the welterweight limit before whereas Corralles is a lanky mofo. Sounds like he didn't drop the weight early enough and then just couldn't make it.

if he looks 1/2 dead and severely malnourished, with flu like symptoms, he must've been trying. he was dried to the bone

what were the WBC up to, monitoring him systematically

personally, i think all this stuff makes boxers unfit to fight. can ruin a big fight ala jones-toney

The WBC were obviously NOT doing their job, nor realistically should anyone have had any faith in them doing so. It's obviously a fantasy that he weighed 142, as he's 8 lbs heavier a week later.

Terence wrote:I'm sure it was a mammoth task getting scales into the training camp of a fighter with a prior history of this kind of cheating. Whoops what a I saying? It would have been fooking easy to weigh him, unless his team are a bunch of spakkers. The guy tried to cheat again, that's about the long and short of it, he was going to use Corrales' willingness to fight against Diego and put him at massive risk of damage.

Castillo is a cheating little smeg. I'll not be watching his fights again.
Castillo's been in some of the best fights ever seen. Jauregei 1 and 2, Julio Alvarez, S Johnston II, Corrales I. shit, up to that point the only cheating was done by Corrales. if that hadn't happened - & there's no way Corrales would've won without cheating - Castillo would've been fighting for 140-lb titles by now

I will be watching him again - at light welter

if Castillo took those extra pounds off, he could've risked a flat James Toney on a drip style performance at best, or at worst, risked serious injury. in the lighter weights it does happen, i.e. Duk Koo-Kim and Jimmy Garcia were messed up with weight, that guys get killed.

the extent to which he was drained this week - looking at pics and reports - it seems his body simply cannot lose any more. i reckon he tried to make weight, realize dhe couldn't, and failed to make weight, and simply couldn't fight. i seriously doubt he planned to cheat, knowing that he'd be fined anyway, that Corrales wouldn't take the fight,

nowadays ppl go on about toney beaing a natural heavyweight / cruiserweight. well, will castillo's frame and appearances as high as 150, i'm inclined to believe he just cannot stretch his body so far out of shape any more.

fornicate sake what's up with all this conspiracy theory bullshit, the photo of Castillo at the weigh in should be enough to let everyone know, the fight should never have been made at 135.

Yes Castillo's team should of said something abit earlier, but he clearly can't and shouldn't be making 135 anymore.

Let's be objective here, I'm a big Corrales fan but Castillo would of beat Corrales HAD he made the weight, just like he was in the 1st fight untill that miracle occured.

For those who said they won't be watching any Castillo fights in future.
Shame on you, he's one of the best fighters in the world today.

No if boxing fans had any integrity, they wouldn't be bashing Castillo, and calling him a "pudendum" for not making weight, when they don't know the FACTS.

For all we know, he could of tortured himself to make weight which will weaken him, and risk his LIFE for OUR entertainment.

Going by those pictures, and past experiences, I don't think he could of ever made weight SAFELY.

It's a disgrace that they never came forward earlier, but in the end they knew the end result would be a fine, and fight stopped. So why risk cheating.

Answer - He couldn't safely make weight.

Shame on whoever made the fight at 135.

Even giving Castillo the benefit of the doubt and saying that he physically cannot make 135 (which seems quite likely) doesn't excuse him. He must have known long ago that he couldn't do it, and he's just messed Corrales around. And shame on the WBC for all this nonsense about checking his weight. They clearly weren't doing their job properly.

He signed a contract to fight at 135lbs and guys like you are babying him through the controvery, he is a sneaky prick and if his fans had integrity they'd be able to admit that.

So what positives do we take? boxing is a laughing stock and Sky finally stump up for big fights only for a cheating fighter to let everyone down. Shame on the Castillo fans for talking such rot, I may watch him versus Cotto in the hope the bigger man beats the shit out of him, KO's him and bombs him out of the sport.
no it's not nonsense. he looked like a freakin cadaver all week and you don't own opinion on Corrales-Castillo.

i don't know where Castillo's head is. he signed a contract for 135 but he couldn't get his body down to 135. he looked sick at 140 by all accounts - what would he have been like at 135. i think you're overreacting, especially insinuating that he cheated the scales for previous fights. indeed, look at the difference in Castillo's body. his body looks the same in all his l/w fights. whereas he looked very chunky in the 2nd corrales fight & reyes & looked big for his over the weight non title fights between Mayweather 2 - Lazcano

too many ppl have had a shit eating grin since Corrales gave himself a minute's recovey and ruined the ending to a great fight that most ppl salivate over cos it was "Hollywood". i think that clouds a lot of ppl's judgement. falling in love with the mythical figure i.e. the Phoenix. go & watch f_ucking X-Men, LOL

I agree, Castillo could have tried harder. In the 2 hours he was given he didn't lose any weight or at the most half a pound. That is a disgrace.

He thought Corrales would still fight so didn't bother trying.

No but so far I own well-reasoned opinion. You sound like a lawyer arguing for diminished responsibility because some spoilt kid blew a gasket.

Corrales hardly looked radiant at the weigh-in but came in at 135lbs. Castillo signed a contract, came in heavy despite having access to scales during the build-up and knowing he was slated to fight at 135lbs. He must have known beofre going through the charade of the weigh-in. Why weigh-in when you know you are overweight? Why not save face by announcing you are over in the days building up to the fight? Because he hoped Corrales would take the fight only to find Diego called his bluff. That is the long and short of it, he weighed-in expecting to still be able to fight and would have packed weight on overnight.

Bob Arum would promote Hitler if he drew in a crowd and is refusing to work with Castillo again, probably realising that he'll be a hard-sell in future, so it is hardly a note of endorsement from those in the know.

As for his previous fights, why not speculate, he was caught trying to manipulate, via a lackey, the scales last time.
none of us can know the full truth, we can only speculate. opinions and arseholes etc. did Castillo try to cheat, or was he just too fucke_d and weak? ultimately it doesn't matter as the fight is off. this has ruined a perfectly good night for me, so i am pissed at Castillo, but I'm glad for his safety that he didn't get his weihgt any lower (not that i think he Can make 135 at all now). there's enough fatalities in boxing and i think that dehydration has alot to do with it - not having the cushioning in the brain, not having enough stamina etc
