He looks far too weight drained have to admit, and he better move up fast if he knows what's good for him, but he should have far too much for this over hyped American, who hasn't fought anyone remotely as good or as hard hitting as Cotto.
Cotto is going to give Malligalli the shock of his life.
dunno if he's battle hardened. the hard fights and the weight seem to be taking their toll on him

Well, Cotto has weighed in at 138.25. Suprised he's that light, to be honest.
Malignaggi was also 138.25.

That may be why he looks so skeletal...took off more than necessary...at least he could've had more to his face....he'll look totally different come saturday night.

The only way Malignaggi sees the twelth round is if he runs for his life. He'll fiddle around for a few rounds but I think Cotto will slow him down with body shots and have in out of there in six.

something ive just noticed...cotto has very small hands in the weigh in pictures...yet we never hear about him having hand problems,and hes a big puncher.
malignaggi on the other hand is considered feather fisted yet hes always breaking his hands. a possible reason could be that he doesnt punch correctly,and if this is the case,whats all this crap about him being a wonderful boxer,highly skilled etc.
if you watch PM boxing it seems like he flicks a lot of his punches like you would a wet towel, cos hes already moving away before he throws the punch.
if cotto just stands there with his chin tucked in and lets malignaggi hit him on the head he could probably win the fight on stoppage cos malignaggi would retire from the fight with broken hands!!
if he doesnt get ko d by failing to get up from a knockdown,or the referee saving him from further punishment,look for malignaggi to cry out of the fight citing hand problems

Cotto is playing an extremely dangerous game with the weight, we don't want another Leavander Johnson on our hands, he seems to be seriously drawn and gaunt. Just out of interest are SKY repeating this fight at 7.30/8am as usual? Their schedules helpfully go only until 5am on the website

Not sure how Maliginaggi is overhyped... how many of his fights have made US TV - 2/3 tops.
If this was a Welterweight contest, I don't think anyone would give Maliginaggi a hope in hell. It is seen as a routine defence stateside, on paper - Cotto's weight is the only thing that makes it intriguing.
I don't think the US public/promoters are over hyping Maliginaggi... The only person who is over hyping Maliginaggi is Malinaggi himself.

Showed a lot of heart, and gave it a good 12 rounds. However, that's expected just from a stylistic viewpoint with Malignaggi. He could go 12 against anyone, but it doesn't mean he can beat anyone. He tried to make a stand early and not be afraid of Cotto's strength, but that didn't work as he ate it in the second, and looked pretty overwhlemed in the first. Got on his bike, and it worked, but lost a tough, but correctly scored decision.

Good effort from Malignaggi... Close fight, right winner. Just Cotto had a bit too much in the end, Cotto needed the last 2 rounds on my card to win - and got them. Although I'm sure Malignaggi will come back again a better fighter for the experience... a smaller Light Welter will not bust him up so badly, which I think effected his concentation/stamina down the stetch.
Cotto is absolutely dead at the weight, if I didn't have concerns about Witter's stamina - I would favour Junior to beat him. Ricky would definately beat him at Light Welter. He will be a completely different fighter at Welter though. He looked flat footed and slow from the opening bell, in the first minute I thought "upset is on the cards, Cotto is too drained".
A surprising good fight with Malignaggi arriving in the world stage.

Sounds interesting all right, Malignaggi appears to be a bit of a character. Didn't he have a ringside bust up with a previous opponent or something?

A broken orbital bone(cheek) , a broken jaw , a broken nose and a big cut . Malignaggi may look like a faggot but the guy can fight and is tough as they come .

Yes have to hand it to him, he backed up all the tough talk and then some. Excellent skills and a teak tough chin to boot.
They say it's the shots you don't see that knock you out, but that's not the case with Paulie, cause surely, with his speed, you're gonna get hit by shots you don't see, and yet he only has 4 or 5 KO's....

Because he doesn't sit on his punches. He has blazing fast hands, and very good footwork, 2 things he honed in the Amateurs. However, he won't stop any top level talent. It almost appeared he's been scared to get hit until this fight. Now, he's faced one of the heaviest punchers oout there, and took pretty much everything Cotto threw in stride. I bet he'll start sitting on punches more, and getting more KO's.
