Without a shadow of a doubt. Skelton, for all his faults, is at least a fighter, deep down. Audley most definitely is not.nickd wrote:If the mooted Skelton v Harrison fight had happened a year or two ago Skelton would have stopped him.
mcdonnell-williams economical with the truth
i have consulted my PH trainer, he is a leading expert in the effects of altitude training and he tells me that using an oxygen tent during a build up for a fight will have benefits for the fighter in that a large percentage of boxing fans will be fooled into buying tickets for a non event that the fighter need not have to get himself into proper condition for. he says that all oxygen tents come with a manual that clearly states "this apparatus must only be used in conjunction with an experienced publicity agent"
retire
and that goes for jimmy too

I stopped listening to McDonnell after the Vitali fight.
After hearing his garbage about how Danny was in the shape of his life and he was going to take Vitali into ‘deep water’ blah blah blah
Any remaining shred of credibility has been well and truly blown away now.
I bet there are quite a few that paid money to be in attendance who feel like they’ve had their pockets picked.

A rubber match please dont even mention it - Ward/Gatti one of the best ever but Skelton/Williams would be awful - I will watch Matt fight anyone else thoughShirow wrote:It does seem as if Klitchsko ended Danny's career and he's just been on autopilot since. Hopefully he calls it a day now. Surely there's no mileage in a rubber match.

Well if thats your altitude LOLjamesmcdonnell wrote:The level of bollocks spouted prior to this fight has reached a pinnacle of everest like proportions, never mind 13,000 feet, 28,000 more like.
And anyway, since when can you fit a chamber which simulates being at altitude around your bed? It's obvious this oxygen tent was utter shite. An oxygen tent doesn't simulate being at altitude, and the facilities which do are not a bloody plastic tent which fits around your bed.
When athletes train at altitude it takes several weeks before you gain any benefit, and it doesn't work if you sit on your arse eating sackfuls of fondant fancies.
If Jimmy Mac has any sense, he will tell Danny to either shape up or find a new trainer, it's surely damaging his credibility having a fighter slowly turning into the black pavarotti evem if it's enhancing his bank balance. Soon he'll be making his ring entrances with a white scarf and a tuxedo with nessun dorma as his entrance music.

Good point and I think the answer has to be Skelton always comes to fight and Harrison is afraid to get hurt - Skelton is a very tough guy that is willing to take punches to deliver his own - Skelton is really a fighter but I thought his tactics Saturday were very good - Getting his shots off then stepping aside did the trick against the cumbersome flat footed Williams - Skelton is improving and learning all the time -He definately did it all wrong last time with Williams and I think this time he was spot on in the way he handled the fight - He had a hand injury so a big bomb was out of the question - I respect the man, you have to, he has no amateur experiance yet he has in a very short career become our best heavyweight - He was wanting a fight with Harrison but Harrison avoided him and went to the States to fight nobodys - That was a fight I wanted to see at one time but it would be pointless now - Skelton would win without a doubt in a fight that would do nothing for either of them - Harrison with Skeltons determination and guts could have been the best in Britain but he failed so badly a comeback is very unlikely - Skelton is all heart, very tough and brave, always gives the best he has to offer so thats more than good enough for me - I know its great to see a skillfull boxer but its also great to see a good fighter who has come to win and Matt never fights any other way - The fight the other night was dissapointing because of Williams not being ring ready but no blame can be laid at Skeltons door - He did his job to perfection.states wrote:How badly does it reflect upon Audley Harrison though? Danny was just as crap on Saturday as he was against Audley. And yet, somehow, a former kickboxer, widely regarded as one of the least skilled heavyweights in recent memory, was able to outbox Williams comfortably, whilst the supposedly skilled, Olympic gold medalist could do sod all?

Why does Team Williams always come up with these ridiculous training methods?
First there was the car pushing, then the wood chopping & now the oxygen tent!
Why can't he get his huge backside side out of bed at 4am, do some roadwork, go to the gym & spar, like all boxers.
Standard training methods worked for Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali & many other great fighters down the years.
Why does Danny Williams think the can change the course of boxing with ludicrous training methods?

Harrison does not have great technique.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yep, give me a Matt Skelton over an Audley Harrison any day, I'd rather a fighter had no technique and great desire, than great technique and no desire.
He paws with his jab & throws very few punches.
His lost to Williams is now even more embarrassing when you consider tha Williams was in even worse shape when they fought.

Pawing with the jab & throwing very few punches are symptons of Aud's lack of fighting spirit. He can look very classy when he has no fear of what's coming back (very rare moments obviously). I remember he finished off that Dutch pygmy with a beautifully delivered combo.
He can certainly give it but never does as he's petrified of taking it.

its simple.. they come up with new training methods for danny because he just cannot get his arse out of bed like a decent fighter.
but of course theres no substitute for a good road run and finishing up with a dip in the frozen waters of hampstead heath ponds ala john conteh!
conteh used to hate george francis for making him dive into that water but i bet he wouldnt have changed a thing looking back. conteh = real fighter
