The number one is always a toss-up between Ali and Louis. Always. I personally go to bed thinking Ali and wake up thinking Louis. Ali's greater personality just tips the balance when push comes to shove, however. As for the final three, you could take your pick between Holmes, Marciano, Johnson, Dempsey and Foreman.

1) Ali
2) Louis
3) Johnson
4) Marciano
5) Holmes

Rocky Balboa! **gggg*** hihi!! ;)

Isn´t it quite wrong to compare boxers from different areas?

I don´t think you can compare for example Joe Louis with Mike Tyson, who has a lot more possibilities to improve his body and has a whole industry behind him

This is a no-brainer for 1 and 2

1. Ali: nobody beats Ali at his 60's peak. And even in the 70's, he beat terrific fighters like Frazier and Foreman

2. Joe Louis : look at the length of his reign

3. Jack Johnson: excellent boxing science and good size

now a big drop-off in quality, but 4. is probably Holyfield. Holmes never beat any really top opponents. Foreman would have been 4 if he had not quit in 79. Best power of any heavy. Dempsey too small, and a brawler.
Ditto for Marciano, plus he cut easily. Klitschko will wind up being #3, a shame Lewis is ducking him
