Marciano-Liston (mid-late 50s)

this fight doesnt make sense.


in 1956 when marciano retired......liston was a young unproven nobody. he wasnt even a contender.

by the time liston became a contender in 1958.......marciano was long retired

Saad -v- Spinks is a good shout.

Saad is my favourite fighter, but I can only see a Spinks win here.

Hearns -v- McCallum is also another great shout & quite difficult to call.

I'd be inclined to go with McCallum due to his titanium chin, but I could also see Tommy outboxing him rather handily.

Marciano vs. Nino Valdez would have been interesting
(about in the same league as Tunney vs. Godfrey)

What I was actually getting at was if Marciano had not retired, then this fight could have been great in '58. At least IMO. But it doesn't matter because Max Baer would have destroyed them both.

Not sure Baer would have destroyed Liston. Actually, I don't think so.

Duran/Arguello good one. Good matchup of styles, I'm usually bias on boxer-punchers, I'd favor Arguello by decision.

no. george godfrey was far better than nino valdez and far more avoided than nino valdez.


clarence henry and bob baker were both better than nino valdez, how come you dont mention them here?



valdez had no chance vs marciano.......godfrey actually had a good chance vs tunney



tunney ducked godfrey as did harry wills and many of the other top contenders of that era. godfrey was too dangerous a fight. godfrey without the cuffs was the best contender of tunneys era(with the exception of sharkey)



even if you dont think godfrey was one of the best heavyweights......he certainly was one of the most avoided heavyweights of all time.

why do people always shoutout nino valdez? clarence henry was better than valdez. why dont people shotout henry vs marciano instead?

Coetzee vs Holmes - Would of been a great fight.
Bowe vs Lewis - Bowe would of knocked Lewis out inside of 5 rounds.

As someone had already stated, Tyson vs Witherspoon would of been a good fight as well.

I could imagine the hype to Bowe-Lewis. They would play the whole revenge over the Olympic victory Tag.

I also would like to see Meldrick Taylor vs Pernell Whitaker. I wondered if Taylors speed can get through Whitaker's defense, although Meldrick wasn't the exactly a defensive stalwart.

If Aaron Pryor didn't go the drug route, imagine all of the potential matchups he would've had!

Word is Foreman ducked Shavers back in the mid-70s. For as long as it would (or wouldn't) have lasted, that would have been a nice scrap to see.

It would have been explosive, but Foreman's superior chin would have seen him through I think.
