Now I know you are full of sh*t, hunter is a flawed champion who hasnt defended his title against ANYONE OF ANY REAL PEDIGREE, he is 1 or 2 fights away from being found out for what he is (an average boxer) and Dunne would cut him to pieces if they ever met. Im sure I will be referencing back to this post in a few months time when Dunne is sitting on the european belt and Hunters camp are hopping up and down looking for a crack at it after coming undone with their IBF ambitions. Just because Hunter defends 3 times against "handbags" doesnt make him world class....Dunne to win everytime and I would glady put my money where my mouth is if they ever met!!!!
how can you say that hunter is a flawed champion, there is no doubt that hunter deserved the decision against pickering and i am certain he would beat him more convincingly in a rematch. i dont think a lot of people realise micheal has been winning championships since he was a kid and won 2 a.b.as as a senior amataur. of course micheal has flaws but doesnt every boxer. to call him a flawed champion is just silly

My Impressions of Dunne may be unfair but considering the hype i saw him twice when he was based in the States and he looked piss poor on both occasions (got dropped one fight). Maybe he has improved since moving to the Republic who knows but i will still be cheering Mickey on in this one.

Pickering to face Dunne

I read with interest this topic. Ive seen all 3 guy's fight and i believe all 3 guy's r good in there own style and way. Pickering is a clever mover and good counter puncher but in the hunter fight he seemed to lack the heart for the job.
Dunne is good on his feet has fast hands and can punch with either hand(throws fantastic body shots), has good head movement and showed in the Valdez(spelling) fight that he has plenty of heart cause that mewican guy gave it everything he had and Dunne responded well.
Hunter has loads and loads of guts which he showed against Pickering by getting up and coming back strong. He seems to be improving boxing skill and his defence but still showed frailties in his defence of belt been caugtht by silly shots and looking stunned for a bit which maybe down to not concentrating with a so called lesser opponent in front of him, and he also looks strong.
My oppinion on the matter of all 3 is that hunter is the less sillful of d 3 but the more stubborn in the ring, but bravery will get you so far and i belive if Dunne had him the way pickering had in there fight that Hunter would not have seen the final bell. Dunne beats Hunter for me.Tough, Good fight though.
Dunne v Pickering will be a totally different fight(Dunne n Hunter wil be a real scrap). This will be a battle of minds i think with both guys trying to out smart the other. Think Dunne has the edge though as he can be quite an aggressive fighter when he wants to be as i have seen him be on tv, And to me is the stronger of the 2.
Hunter v Pickering is a hard call. Dont know but think Hunter may have his number although pickering wil try keep him off him this time but maybe Pickering is coming to the end of his days.
All in all i think Dunne wins European belt if giving a crack at either of the lads but i would love to see a Dunne v Hunter fight at some stage. Makes for a hell of a fight in my oppinion.

I agree Hunter can be hurt and is often very square on, maybe the two are linked  Dunne V Hunter will be intriguing all the same.

[quote="states"] I haven't seen Dunne since his return from the states, so I can't really comment.

I can bring you up to date on this one fairly easily, he is still carrying the same power in both hands as he was stateside. His level of opponent has been upped with every fight and he looks very comfortable at the level he is at. His trainer Harry Hawkins has done super work in polishing the skills he always had and he actually looks stronger at superbantam than he did at feather (when he was in the states). He seems more focused and determined and is in much better physical shape than he ever was and he seems that bit sharper, I have no doubt he can step up another notch and we havent seen his best yet.

[quote="larry cake"] how can you say that hunter is a flawed champion

Just to clarify for you and I will quote your queens english so there can be no ambiguity - Reference the oxford english dictionary Definition of
FLAW : • noun 1 a blemish or imperfection. 2 a fundamental weakness or error.

Need I say any more???? I am not disagreeing that he didnt deserve to beat Pickering. I am stating a fact in saying the 3 opponents he has defended his title against have been unworthy of being in a title fight in the first place and this justifies my opinion to call him a flawed champion!!!

Look lads your heart is ruling your heads if you seriously think that hunter or pickering can beat Dunne. And your judgement is clouded by your prefrence to back your home fighter which i can understand, most neutrals who have seen all 3 fighters in recent action will agree that Dunne has more in his bag to win on current form and has demonstrated this in recent fights which is why im sticking to my original position that hunters camp are avoiding this showdown.

i take on board what you are saying about micheals quality of opponent since he won the title and i somewhat agree with you , but the point i am trying to make is that the title fight micheal was in to win the title he did deserve to be there and he won the fight fair and square. although the quality of opponent since he won the title may not have been to a high standard he has still won the fights quite convincingly therefore in MY opinion i feel to call the man a flawed champion is very harsh to say the least. if the quality of opponent does not improve after the next to three to four defences then maybe you do have a point but i really cant see that happening.

i have boxed both hunter and dunne as seen in the earlier post and if u want my personal opinion i reckon dunne has the most power but hunter is the most aggressive, if hunter gets through the first 5 rounds or so then i would make him favorite. it makes for a cracking fight though.

Dunne will chop him down like a lumberjack on one thick tree.

Hi Sean nice to see you there, ive seen you fight a few times up here in Hartlepool, whats your plans for the future mate?

Nice to see you posting Sean, and its interesting to hear your comments seeing as you are the only "common" ground between both fighters although it can be dangerous trying to compare on this basis. I agree with you that Hunter would probably be the agressor in the fight and would try and dictate the pace but this is where in my opinion he would play into Dunnes hands and I dont think that Hunter is ring savvy enough to change his one dimensional style - he is a sitting duck in my opinion and when he gets hit with them body shots it will slow him up. Some people have also previously questioned Dunnes power so its nice to have that dispelled by someone who has been on the end of them punches.

So what did you make of boxing in Dublin????

Lets see

yeah agreed dunne posseses the more power of the two but its not always brute power that holds the key to knocking a guy out, hunter can drag dunne into a war and take him to places hes never been before. but i wouldnt like to stick my neck out and pick a winner. Dublin was a hell of a night when i was over there and hopefully i will get chance to go over again the crowd are amazing and patriotic.
Hi razor ive been taking a break boxed last may and won but the fight with callaghan (last march) was a kick in the bollocks i deserved all i got that night, i only decided to fight after 8 rounds. a painfull lesson learnt. hopefully back in oct/nov.

I would fancy pickering to come out on top too mate, although i believe the fights would be massively different from each other.

I think that the dunne-pickering fight would be a chess match early on but pickering is quick enough and slick enough to avoid dunnes early bombs and would outpoint him effectively over the twelve rounds.

I think Pickering-Hunter is personal. Hunter was very lucky to scrape through against Esham last time and lets not forget that hunter was decked twice and scored no knockdowns back in return. I cant see what extra mickey can bring to the table, whereas pickering has proven from past experience that he had an off night that night last october.

If Dunne was the more dangerous opponent he would be mandatory, he isn't pickering is!!!!!

People may want to see hunter-dunne but can can anybody really say in here that that fight would be more entertaining that pickering-hunter last year?????????

its no problem mate, i train 6 days a week, and have a full time job too boot, im doing it the hard way but most fighters do it this way. id give pickering a shout with any of them because he has the ability to beat them both also. if he beats hunter in the rematch then he'll be back on top. its a good little mix up with dunne, hunter and pickering.

Hi Sean,

Nice to see you posting. Through a fellow proffesional and boxrec poster I managed to get hold your fight with Stephen Foster. It certainly wasn't quite how I remembered it and you showed tremendous bravery that night - you never got the credit you deserve.

I hope you don't mind me asking but one of the stand out results (in terms of shocks) on your record is your draw vs Peter Buckley just over a year ago... It wasn't televised, was something up cause you must have been heavily favoured to score a shut out there.

If you don't wish to answer then fair enough, but I admire your honesty in your previous posts.

no fair enough thanks stu!, the buckley fight was a nightmare i gave away weight and tried to bang him out without giving him the respect he deserves, hes one of the toughest fighters out there and only the best stop or knock him out, i went into the fight with totally the wrong attitude and it came to bite me, i was ahead in most peoples eyes but he knocked me down with a peach of a shot in the 5th. dont ever underestimate peter buckley. looking back a draw is better than a loss.

Im just curious to know from the brits who are backing either Pickring or Hunter to beat Dunne.....have any of u seen Dunnes last fight against Martinez??? There is much more to him than power, there is a "war" in him (and we seen small snipets of this in last fight) but he has managed to box his way out of trouble so far and i have no doubts at all that if he needs to go to war then no better man. And to say Pickering is more deserving of a rematch ahead of Dunne is bullsh*t, he had his day in the sun and Hunter beat him so get over it, and the unbiased boxrec have Dunne ranked higher so more deserving my a-ss!!!!

I mentioned earlier in the thread that I haven't seen Dunne since his return from America, so I couldn't really comment on his chances against someone like Hunter. However, I wasn't that impressed with him when I did see him in his fights in the U.S. I suspect most of the Brits on here have seen about as much as me, which is probably where the opinions about his chances against Hunter/Pickering come from.

I've heard that Dunne has improved a lot since returning to Ireland, as you'd expect given how young and inexperienced Dunne was. However, if I'm being brutally honest, he needed to, given what I'd seen of him. In fairness though, I'd read a lot about Dunne before I ever saw him, and he was getting a big build-up from the likes of Ray Leonard and Freddie Roach, so I probably expected too much from him.

I'd like to see some more recent footage of him though, because all this optimism can't all be Irish patriotism. Hunter-Pickering was a cracking fight, and if Dunne can mix it at that level, (or even trounce those two, as some are saying here) then there are some cracking fights to be had.

Irish optimism maybey but not without substance or foundation!!! I will agree with you that there are some cracking fights ahead and I can wait....

This will be the totally unbiased boxrec rankings that rate Drew Docherty as the 2nd best British Super-Bantamweight of all time, above Hunter, Pickering and Oliver.

Incidentally they also rank Jimmy Bivins above Tyson, Holmes, Tunney, Frazier and Foreman on the all time heavyweights list.

I dont really think that the boxrec rankings are to be relyed upon too much do you fightingirish????????
