But "superfights" does not necessarilly mean the toughest opposition. It means the most financially rewarding fight. Kessler is NOT in that category yet - so it's not gonna happen.
Joe did all that we asked of him this year - beat Lacy. Let's give him a free pass with Bika. So long as it leads to another major fight next year.
Right now it's all too early to speculate. Woods v Johnson 3 & Kessler-Beyer haven't happened. We don't know who will win those fights. Everyopne's saying he MUST fight Kessler, but we cann't be sure if Kessler will beat Beyer.
Another thing that will detemrine who he goes for next is how the upcoming 168 & 175 titles play out. If Kessler struggles to beat southpaw Beyer, and if Woods batters Johnson, then I would say Kessler is a more liekly foe.
There are a lot of quality names at 168 and 175. Many of them with world titles. Kessler, Beyer, Mundine, Bute, Andrade, Erdei, Woods, Johnson, Tiozzo.
Bika is a step back from Lacy (though he appears to have better boxing ability). However, I can see Calzaghe's career rising to a boil. example: from late 97 to 03, Calzaghe fought five ex title holders. That is almost one a year. 2004-5 were the stagnant years that we never thought he'd get through - very sobering & he lost a lot of fans. In 2006, he fought an unbeaten titlist. There is a progression, steady as it has been. Lacy, who got a lot of hype, has raised the bar & i think there iss till pressure & demand to see JC in a real fight.
Joe is 34. There's fights ahead of him. For the last 3 years Hopkins - around the age of 38-41 - has aparently had arthritis. yet look at what he's done.
The odds are completely stacked against Beyer. He's almost been taken out several times in Germany but is usually saved by the doctors calling a halt to the fight after 4 rounds and disqualifying his opponent
I guess with Beyer they don't even feel he will last the 12 rounds so they can give him a gift of a hometown decison so they pull the plug after 4 and save him that way.
As he's going into Kessler land now I actually fear for him.
I still see him winning somehow or at least holding on to his own belt just not sure how his German team are going to acomplish it this time.
My pick is that after he's been put down for the 3rd time in the first 2 rounds there will be a mysterious explosion in the arena, panic and disruption will ensue and the fight will be declared void. Beyer will keep his belt, fight a rematch in Germany and Kessler will be disqual ified in the 2nd round for punching Beyer in the face
Imagine if Beyer knock`s down Kessler...my moneys on pundit running into the ring lobbing out a tit and stuffing it into the semi-concious Kesslers mouth whilst screaming.."my baby....what happend to my lovely baby."
