I mean we have a thread kicking around about Eubank v Watson at the moment, look what those two put into their 2 fights, put Benn in the mix with that aswell and the best British fighters were duking it out then with pride on the line.
Hatton should do the same and man up and face Witter rather than taking easy fights for his HBO dollars. Give something back to the fans who've made you a rich man Hatton you greedy shite!
But don't forget, there was a very similar situation going on even back then: none of the UK top middleweights wanted any part of a fighter with a very similar ( who needs him ) style as Witter - Herol Graham.

Yes, but how many fans, i.e people who actually pay for fights, want to see him fight Witter, you might say all of them, but we're not talking about die hard boxing fans. The majority of the people who have made Hatton rich are not die hard boxing fans, it's the people who turned up to the MEN who also bought the PPV's.

I wouldn't say these are the ONLY fighters that HBO will approve. I'm sure if Hatton suggested the likes of Harris, Cotto, Quintana, Williams (Welters), Lazcano and a few others they would get accepted.
Is Castillo rep at an all time low, yes the pay masters might be watching is weight carefully - but still his last fight was arguably a career best win.
those i mentioned plus Lazcano, who pulled out vs Hatton.
Lazcano's notable performance - L12 Castillo, where Lazcano got absolutely outclassed and slashed up!
to me, Tszyu is a bigger win than Castillo.
HBO need to have a good look at M'baye, this man is superb
I would rule out the welters
A bit of a harsh assessment of Lazcano that..... outclassed? Nah, he lost definately but all the rounds were very competitive. Infact, he looked like he had the tools to beat Castillo but fought like the occasion got to him.
Look at all the good fringe contenders Lazcano has beaten... Stevie Johnston (who was looking good before the Lazcano defeat), Tackie, Burton, Molina, Spivey, Golden Johnson, Leija. He has an eliminator for the WBA belt next, so maybe Mbaye will get his opportunity to impress HBO by beating Lazcano - an excellent fight that will be.
Of course, Tszyu is a better win than Castillo - but I fail to see what is meant by that. If we are looking for better wins than Tszyu then he might aswell retire - cause only one fight he can have.
There is also Vivian Harris at 140 that would surely attract the US market.
Castillo was weight drained and easily took the first four, switched off for 4 rounds to pace himself, and then continued to carve him up like a Christman turkey with carefully selected hooks down the stretch. Castillo's opponents often look like they have the tools to beat him, but he's so crafty and his punches have such an effect on his opponents' faces and bodies that he almost always is the boss by the end.
In that fight, his defense was very underrated, he could see Lazcan's shots coming and he used some decent footwork to get out the way. Also, as against Julio Diaz, castillo was landing lead right hands and lead left hooks at will. Very good boxing, that, from JLC.
Maybe outclassed was slightly harsh, but it was a very clear win
All I'm saying re Tszyu/Castillo is that Castillo has been a bit devalued. Prime for prime, I make Tszyu-Castillo 55-45 in Tszyu's favor, that's how highly I regard a fit JLC at the proper weight.
Hatton-JLC will probably get me excited closer to the fight. The * against Castillo will eventually lead to excitement that he's getting a big fight at his natural (for now) weight.

If I was HBO I would want Witter over Urango, don't believe HBO are as anti-Witter as is made out. If so why aren't they anti Winky/Judah/Spinks/Corley/JMM

I remember after a Witter fight, Hatton came to ringside and they had an interview. Hatton gave the usual "You have to win more fights so the people want to see it" and witter shouted to the crowd, "Who wants to see the fight??". The crowd roared. Many people want to see it. Don't forget that Witter has fought on many Hatton undercards at the MEN so he is known to those fans and crashed many of Hattons interviews. If the fight was made, it would be huge.
Good unbiased post for once, the fight would be massive here, it would sell more than 20k of seats - maybe 30-40-50 - who knows

Back after Tackie, he could have fought Witter and draen huge crowds (much bigger than normal) instead of Witter but went for 3-4 easy optons instead. A Tyszu fight certainly was very unlikely up until the Stewart fight, so Ricky was treading water for those 2 fights and should have fought Witter then
Hatton probably doesnt fancy it, it doesnt mean he'd definately lose - but Witter would hurt Hatton even if Hatton were to win imo.

How big was the crowd, not being funny, but most witter fights were not exactly to packed houses.
However, the bottom line is I personally would LOVE to see the two men fight.

jamesmcdonnell wrote:Slightly farcical this thread. Why does Hatton NEED Witter?
Because, it will satisfy the long-standing question of who is Britain's best light-welterweight. After how many years, this question is still to be answered!
The major thing killing British boxing is domestic rivals avoiding each other, and instead taking on foreigners in fights that have to be over-egged to be sold to the public. British boxing needs big domestic showdowns to survive. People still drum on about Benn-Eubank, Watson-Benn etc - Hatton-Witter possesses the potential to join such illustrious ranks.
All the talking and posturing in the world means absolutely fuk all. The only way to settle this is for the fight to happen - whether HBO want it or not. After all HBO has no interest in the future of British boxing, but only in the number of its American ppv sales.

It is not a question yet. Take M'bye and Corley and raise them by Tszyu.
EXACTLY!!! You can say all the shite in the world, but that still doesnt actually answer who is the best light-welterweight in Britain, does it? There is literally only one way to find out.
By the way, has anybody else noticed the amount of different excuses Hatton has used over the past few years to rubbish a fight with Witter?

Well, it's a bit like having someone ask at the time 'Whose the best fighter in the Virgin Islands', when Emile Griffiths was champ.
Hatton is the more established fighter, it's more a case of 'who is the best light welter in the world?' Right now, Hatton's about the best out there, Witter is closing him down pretty quickly, but it's not about Britain any more.

Well well, it appears that it is the Hatton haters convention. On this thread he is, useless, chinny, cowardly, and over rated.
This may or may not be the case, but the Witter nut hugging is a bit much to say the least. When he was only a kid starting out, Hatton had to put up with the pig shit ignorant Witter gate crashing his interviews much like his Ingle stablemates do a lot of the time. This is due to the fact that most of them are so fvcking boring paint watches them dry. Also this cretin never stops boasting about his never ending level of fitness and how he always maintains a weight of no more than a few pounds above ring weight. yet he makes the excuse of short preperation time when he ran like a thief in the night against Judah. Funny how he was fit and strong enough to run. The reason he has fought so many times on Hatton undercards is because he coulln't fill a phone box on his own, and that probably will still stand with his belt. Face it the man is not a draw in world terms, and anyonhe with sense knows that to really succeed you have to crack the US market. Witter has more chance of running through hell soaked in petrol than that happening. Hatton owes and needs Witter not a bit, and to humour the fool by even acknowledging him is a step backwards.

That is fukin rubbish - the lot of it. Its people like you that allow promoters to feed us shite, 99% of the time. Hatton has avoided Witter like the plague.
Surely you clean up your own backyard before sorting out the rest?
Sure, Hatton probably is the most highly rated light-welter at the moment, but the division is ice-thin on talent (with the exception of Cotto - who will immenently move up). Yet Hatton is talking about building up to a super fight with a lightweight (Castillo)!! That is fukin rubbish.
How many excuses are used by Hatton and his loyalists to avoid Witter? Proper disgrace.
