You're jocking Conteh because he's a brit.It's blatantly obvious.
What a pathetic assumption!... I made the thread because its an interesting matchup... and anyway, why should we only talk about American fighters?... how about naming some fighters that arent 'hacks' or 'frauds'??.... all you're doing is displaying your ignarance for all to see!..... well done!... :TU: 8)

Show me some examples?... just because I talk about Europeon fighters doesnt mean I'm biased for them... go away and look at Contehs record or better still watch some of his fights and then come back and talk about him. I'd be a Conteh fan whether he was English, American or Mexican... about 60% of my fights are of Mexicans... read what I have said about Hatton and Calzaghe and then tell me I'm biased for Europeon fighters....

Conteh was technically excellent. That much can be deduced by watching any of his title fights when he was at his peak. He had some nice wins but so did the other title claimants post Foster and pre Spinks. He didn't dominate the division though, but like dear old Vitali, a case could be made that for a relatively short period he was the top man in his division.

He also had problems with hand injury and bad management but that is true of many fighters.

I don't think he is in the class of Foster. Foster is one of the best I have seen at 175 whereas assessing Conteh's position is always replete with "Ifs". If he hadn't kept breaking his hand, if he hadn't taken bad advice and effectively given up his WBC title, if Saad hadn't use a substance to close the cut.

Good fighter, great character outside the ring, fine upstanding citizen as an adult but ATG - Not in my book. Speaking of books his own "I, Conteh" is a good read and, let's not forget, he was also on the cover of Band on the Run - :TU:

I agree, I'm not saying that Conteh was a greater champion or anything like that but I do think he had the style at his peak to trouble Foster... I think a fight between them would have been a good mix of styles... I'd certainly give the Conteh of '74 a good chance at the Foster of '74...
I have his autobio too... one of the best I've read, very interesting how he describes the fact that winning the title didnt make him feel secure or happy like he had thought it would... Finnegans biog is entertaining as well... :box: :box: :box:

He was a winner of SUPERSTARS as well, if I remember correctly... the only boxer ever to win it I believe... which shows that he was a good all round athlete....

Foster by KO in 10.Maybe less

Well Dick Tiger was never KO'd before Foster...and Foster made Mike Quarry look like a shot duck. Also the only fighter to ever cut Ali. He might have been able to put John to sleep as well. It's not beyond comprehension.

I'm curious as well about that?

As to Foster-Conteh...Foster would absolutely murder Conteh...Foster was much better than Conteh in every aspect and Foster would, in very brutal style, knock Conteh out cold! Compared to Foster, Conteh is a tomato can!
I would say that Conteh was much better than a tomato can, but he was several notches below Bob Foster in just about every way. Foster would have KOd Conteh pretty quickly and pretty easily.

How was he a fraud?... when he outboxed Saad Muhammad with one hand perhaps??... have you even seen any of his fights???
He did fight well against Muhammed, however, Conteh lost both fights to Muhammed so I don't see your point.

My point is that even in the latter stage of his career he was able to take the bombs of Saad... so I dont see a case as to why Foster would ko Conteh easily as some on here are saying... at his best Conteh would have been too fast and skilled for Foster to ko early... I could see perhaps a late ko or stoppage but personally think Conteh would last the distance... Conteh was a much better boxer than Mike Quarry...

Foster couldn't even do that to Chris Finnegan or Pierre Fourie(the two best technical boxers he fought). Not that i think Conteh would beat him.
