Maccarinelli vs Hobson II - post fight discussion.
I think that knowing Hobson's previous record and his chances coming into this fight then nobody on here is suggesting a dive but had that been a last minute import Enzo was facing with the exact same outcome everybody would have been hollering from the rooftops about what a farce it was.
But even with two relatively well matched it happens sometimes in boxing.

Mark Hobson and all his family, friends and supporters are completely devastated. We TRULY beleived that he would win the fight and the outcome was shocking.
He has never been stopped before and has always given 200% in any contest whether that be a 6 rounder or a WBO title fight.
Comments about Mark been "dry" and not warmed up properly are correct. In fact, Mark was told by SN to warm up on FOUR seperate occassions prior to the ring walk and then given no notice at all when the time came to fight. He was caught COMPLETELY cold. Make of that what you will, but suffice to say that SN got their way with the outcome of the fight.

i dont buy that. hobsons been around long enough to know about keeping himself at a good level of preparation before the walk to the ring. for the "biggest night of his life" and he lets SN dictate his prep time???
joking! he may have given 200% in all his previous but he sure didnt in this one. i'm not having a go at hobbo, he has been a tremendous warrior but his mind was not there from a long way before the first bell and thats to do with his own mental attitude rather than any warm-up theory

That interview was a bit horrible wasn't it, Gabriel Clarke isn't the greatest interviewing the boxers is he.neverwin wrote:Agree that Hobson looked a bit stiff and nervous beforehand.
I can’t believe he wasn’t trying though & I did feel a bit sorry for him afterwards when he was interviewed. Coming to terms with the fact that you’ve performed so far below your best on the biggest night of your career must be devastating.![]()
Unlike footballers that can have bad games, in Boxing you have to get it right every time.

Whether you buy it or not it dont matter. Physical and mental prepearation go hand in hand so close to first bell and if you arent physically warmed up correctly you arent ready mentally either. Im not making excuses and like you say Marks a seasoned pro, but lets not forget that SN and level playing field are rarely mentioned in the same sentence.harrygreb wrote:i dont buy that. hobsons been around long enough to know about keeping himself at a good level of preparation before the walk to the ring. for the "biggest night of his life" and he lets SN dictate his prep time???

Chin up wasn't the greatest phrase to use when talking to a boxer who just suffered a shock 1st round KO defeat.Lenny Albert wrote:Couldn't believe it when he tried to get an interview with Wayne McCullough whilst he was attending to Alex Arthur between rounds. Doesn't come across well on TV including football - bit Adam Smith likeGabriel Clarke isn't the greatest interviewing the boxers is he.
At least Adam Smith generally asks decent questions.
Speaking of commentary/presenting team. I saw "Your on Sky Sports" for the first time in ages a few nights back and low and behold old Gary Newbon was there...... Ummm Hello Sky, new boxing presenter needed and they have the old master there on their books.

still dont buy it. SN didnt want a quick finish they wanted a war like the first fight so that the next time they show boxing people tune in. they dont want to show bouts at the bottom of the card no matter how impressive derry mathews was. imagine if derry had finished foster early, they would then have had a big headache making up the air-time. no, youre being very fair to hobbo, perhaps a bit too fair.
